OK, this is the reason I watch GV and buy his recommendations. He does stuff that no one does. I mean who the hell pairs wine with cereal? A bit of honesty here, I tried drinking wine while eating a cereal once and the milk in the cereal kind of ruined it for me. The milk seemed to neutralize the wine and the flavors didn’t mesh. Maybe I was drinking the wrong wine.

QOTD: Kix cereal is my favorite.

‘Palate abrasion’ – that’s what you call what Capt. crunch does to the roof of your mouth. Fruit Loops are notorious for it as well.

QOTD – Grape Nuts #1, Grape Nut Flakes #2. Both pair better with beer. The whole malt grain thing I guess

I never would think of pairing a sweet cereal and wine — of course, I don’t eat dirt, either

QOTD — these days, mostly oatmeal, but at times I still mix Life and cinnamon life together

  • Man Gary you really eat poorly. You should read the label on that Captain Crunch you love so much. Especially as your getting older, you’ve gotta limit your consumption of refined grains and refined sugars. Not only are they terrible for you, eating all that sugar takes over your pallet.

What’s next, pairing wines with bubble gum? Gary has a super palate and we love that about him but to claim that Captain Crunch is the “greatest product” is redunkulus. It’s nothing but candied cardboard! Says so right on the box.

Mueslix. I think thats the spelling? Healthy. Cap’n Crunch is the best though.

REQUEST: Please, consider anyone that wants to book their own cruise and add the “Thunder cruise activities” as an extra. The only way to book last year was through one company. Whats wrong with options? I understand that the agency used needs to make $. No problem here,I just feel like there should be some alternatives. I want to be able to book my own cruise, I don’t care if you have to add a small “fee” to book separately. Please respond to this because I think others may feel the same way.

  • d’oh! You’ve been threatening this one for so long, I don’t know if I can even bear to watch. This is the first time I’ve been compelled to comment before a show…
I see the lineup…your sweet tooth is calling the shots here. Is that why you’ve been leaning towards the fruit bombs as of late? Maybe I would have would have less trepidation if it was one wine and three cereals, with three sugar levels, like fruity pebbles, raisin bran, and shredded wheat.
    Oh, OK here it goes…

Gary, just fyi, Spatlese is pronounced “schpate lay sa” – the two dots over the a means you should add an e after the a. In other words, you’d write Spaetlese if the umlaut (two dots) is not available.

    Loved it!

You have to get Sir Gary to do a rebuttal show to see what the wine snob view on this pairing is like.

Keep shaking up the wine world GV.

QOTD: Grits, Not big on cold cereals.

  • I’m throwing my vote to cheerio’s. I’m not a big fan of sweet cereals. Capn Crunch is ok, but it really does rip your mouth up if you eat it very often.

Gary – I’ve been watching you on iTunes for about 6 mos and you’ve really gotten me to open up my mind and palate with different wines. I think today’s show was a great one to show that wines can’t be pigeon-holed. But cereal???? Hey…you do your thing and I’ll continue to drink my reds with fish and whatever else I eat.
Question of the day: Don’t remember the exact name of it, but it’s the Trader Joe’s Vanilla / Almond Flakes.
By the way – 20-10 Texans!

  • Chris McCollum

great show, love the non natural parings.

My fav. cereal is honey nut Cheerios love em.

Love the episode. I have long been looking for the perfect Gewurztraminer to go with Froot Loops. Love the flavors of Hugel but need a little more residual sugars. Suggestions
