  • Love the episode. I have long been looking for the perfect Gewurztraminer to go with Froot Loops. Love the flavors of Hugel but need a little more residual sugars. Suggestions

I think it’s important to mention what milk you are using in these pairings. Fat? Brand?

qotd: I have to go with straight up regular cheerios (although honey nut is a very close second), and I have to disagree with you on the soggy-texture component when eating cereal. Milk on the side all the way.

  • My 7 year old son LOVED the show – he is a “cereal sommelier.”

QOTD: I don’t eat it anymore, but, PEANUT BUTTER Cap’n Crunch!

  • SteveW

Great Episode, Great idea of pairing cereal with wine.
Maybe next time you could try to pair wine with pancakes, waffles, and eggs.
What cereal would you pair with Château d’Yquem?
QOTD: I have to agree with you, it’s all about the sweet tooth and Captain Crunch is the best (Captain Crunch with crunch berries is probably the worst cereal)
    JETS 17 TEXANS 21

  • QOTD: I haven’t eaten cereal in a long time, don’t know why, but I used to be a heavy Froot Loops man, occasionally Cocoa Puffs, but usually Froot Loops.

I love that when people read your profile by Eric Asimov in the NYT, if they come to this site today or tomorrow when the piece hits, the episode they’re going to see first is this one. Brilliant marketing, Gary! Thank you!

Great show GV. I eat most my cereal late at night and definitely dig a glass with it. It’s no gimmick, you’re just not afraid to try and find those tasty pairings.

QOTD: Total and Basic 4 are my favorites for sure.

Gary, great show. I never would have thought of cereal with wine, but you convinced me to try it when I get back from the desert.

Right now, my favorite cereal is Cocoa Crispies, with Frosted Flakes coming a close second.

THanks again for all the great shows. I watch all those I can get.

  • Brilliant show GV! Hungry watching it.

QOTD: BooBerry for sure. Do you remember that one? Count Chocula and BooBerry. Love the BooBerry!

    HoneyCombs are the bomb!
Shredded Wheat heated up a tad is pretty darn good also!

Hey Gary, Have you ever heard of Vampire Wine? Your blood tasting reminded of it. They have many different varieties. It’s a relatively cheap wine ($8). You should check it out!

I loved the episode, and I am glad to know that others enjoy cereal and wine.
QOTD: Hands down Reese’s Peanut Butter Puffs, and I love to pare this with Sauternes, it’s an absolutely delicious combo.
    Again loved the episode.

  • HEY NYT Article newbies to Wine Library TV, look over here (right side under favorite episode) for better shows ———-> Not every episode is about cereal. But this is the real Gary and he always keeps it real.

GV, love the expression on your face when you eat your most favorite food in the world, you truly enjoy the captn. LOVED LOVED this episode, sooooo much fun. I like to use Capt’n Crunch as a coating for chicken (which I stole from Planet Hollywood restaurants), so yummy.

Don’t forget that cinnamon is spice that comes from a bark, so it should go with oak. Cereal factoid: Cinnamon Toast Crunch IS essentially Golden Grahams without a honey glaze and the cinnamon sugar coating instead. Would have done the champagne with Cookie Crunch, that would be the pairing.

QOTD: I LOVE cereal too and eat it all the time, my favorite “not sweet” cereals are Cheerios and Rice Krispies; my favorite “semi-sweet” cereal is Frosted Mini-Wheats; and my favorite “sweet” cereals are Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup and Lucky Charms(yes I like the Capt’n a lot too).

  • Holy crap. This is epic. Definitely will break out the cereal/wine combos now.

QOTD: It’s pretty much a tie between Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Lucky Charms for me.

that capn crunch creator would be C.G. DiArie, a jack of all trades who also invented the hidden valley ranch dressings and the power bar. I carry his zin and petite sirah where I work. good wines.
Cereal pairings? Interesting, never tried that before. Although I’m certain there’s got a be a wine pairing out there for everything that’s consumable. In fact, I’d love to see someone name a food that DOESN’T have a wine pairing. There’s a question of the day for ya.
I’m relatively new to your site, but I’m catching up on all your back episodes very fast. I should be all caught up really soon. Great show can’t wait to see what else you got for us.

  • OK…now that I understand that these kinds of pairings are a regular activity for you, I see that this is not just a ploy to generate comments. The high sugar content and your assumed intake does explain some of the ADHD’esque behavior. You did, however, win me over with the chardonnay/cinnamon toast crunch creates tiramisu…that I can grasp, but probably won’t try.
Of course that was only after I took a breather to see Kahuna make some home made papparadelle.

QOTD: I don’t do much cereal anymore (need a more substantial meal if I eat in the AM), and when I do it is with yogurt instead of milk. Used to love the captain myself growing up, but the lacerations lead to scar tissue buildup and I need the inside of my mouth. Besides, blood and milk don’t mix so good. Even though I stick to “healthy” cereals these days the FAVORITE was and still is, the savory peanut butter Captain Crunch…luckily Nature’s Path Envirokids Organic makes Peanut Butter Panda Puffs, and almost exact replica, so I can feel like I am saving the earth while I get a sugar high on.

  • Robert Howells

I am going to try these pairings tomorrow for breakfast and I can bet that my wife and kids will have me locked up. Great show Gary, you keep surprising me and all the Vayniacs.

QOTD – have to go with Apple Jacks. Not sure if it would be a little too much apple with the Riesling, but worth a try.

Thanks as always and looking forward to the Chicago (Highland Park) visit.
