Gary, A great show. It’s good to remind the viewers of two things: You have a limited budget/time, and you wouldn’t be Gary if you didn’t get in people’s faces a little. Favorite cereal: Kashi Golean Crunch. Not the regular Golean. That is like eating kibble.

First off, I provisonally accept your apology. Just don’t do it again.
Secondly and most importantly, congrats on that pretty bucket of ink (and computer pixels) the Times splashed on you. Great profile and I’m sure everybody’s kvelling.
That said, how you made me suffer through this episode. Each chomp of that sugar sweet stuff made every tooth in my mouth ache. And I’ve had that Landmark Chard and it’s friggin’ terrible. Tub of butter, a forest of oak, everything one hates about Cali chard is right there for your drinking dipleasure.
But then again, I’m a grape nuts or raisin bran eater. Nothing too sweet for me thanks.
    Chacun a son gout.

  • FrankenBerry, Apple Jacks, Cap’n Crunch, Multigrain Cheerios… The list goes on. And on… I used to look forward to cross-border trips just to get the cool cereals that were unavailable in Canada (mercifully few)…

    Hey Gary,

Great show. Loved it! And love that you’re in NJ. After your gig in NYC on October 10, you should come down to the Cape May wine festival on the 11th. Cape May is the next hot wine spot. Keep it in the state…

Well, I probably would have spit out the cereals and swallowed the wines, but to each their own.

Congrats on the NYTimes article. Asimov was a bit condescending, but no surprise there. I kind of wish this wasn’t the episode all the NYTimes readers will encounter first, but oh well. I guess it kind of fits in a way.

QOTD: Back in day, Fruity Pebbles. Now Quaker granola with raisins.

I HATE Lucky Charms. Capital H.A.T.E. with passion and exuberance. CTC is meh and the Capt’n is commandin’.

But, …(i really dislike Lucky Charms: sweet corn puffs with colorful carboard=wtf. And, seriously, BLUE charms?!?! Name me one naturally blue fruit *blueberries don’t count cuz they be purple*…blue in food is unacceptable.)

But, my favorite cereal of all time has to be Honey Bunches of oats mixed with Wheaties. I don’t like the sweets so the bunches on they own get a little too sugarfied for me but mix in some wheaties and you have the real breakfast of champions. This is the best cereal of all time and everyone else is wrong :p

  • What a great episode. You didn’t like the lucky hcarms because marshmallows don’t go that well with champagne, what you should try is pair the Champagne with cheerios, it’s out of this world, we’ve done it at least 20 times every christmas and it’s like a staple now (regular cheerios, not the flavored kind), of course only in petite comité, not everyone gets it. We started with beer and cheerios then moved to hard liquor, Pacharán+choco-krispies is another cool mix.

QOTD: Rice Krispies, goes with everything, anytime.

Haven’t had sugery cereal since I was 12. Back then I loved Cap’n crunch with crunch berries, Honeycomb, sugar smacks and corn pops. Now it’s Nutty Rice or Heritage flakes (?)

FANTASTIC idea for a pairing show! I know I’ve heard you reference cereals in your tasting notes SO many times, and I’m pretty satisfied to finally see the flavors matched up.

QOTD: “CINNAMON TOAST CRUNCH” was a HUGE favorite of mine when growing up, given a run for its money only by “HONEY BUNCHES of OATS”! However, in my adult years, I’ve tried switching to such products as “KASHI GO LEAN CRUNCH” and other multi-grain, intestine-busting fiber powerhouses… and I still fantasize about my joyous childhood memories of Cinnamon Toast Crunch and those delicious Honey Bunches… screw this healthy crap- I’m going to the supermarket for the good ol’ stuff NOW!

Cool pairings……only GV can do it. Fantastic show…loving it.

p/s: I’ve noticed that the volume for the past few episodes was much much lower….I’ve to turn my volume to the highest and still barely hear the sound. Can anything be done during recording?

  • Gary, I’ve been a fan of your business-oriented vlogs for awhile now, but I haven’t seen an episode of Wine Library TV since Tim Ferriss was on. I’m so glad I caught this one though!! What came off initially as something silly left me with something to think about. Like what wine would go well with Cocoa Pebbles?

QOTD: As I mentioned above, I gotta say Cocoa Pebbles for my overall favorite cereal. However, I do have a (pun intended) sweet spot for Frosted Flakes and Rice Krispies.

    Hi Gary,

When I saw the theme for today, I just had to stop everything and watch it. Really great show. By the way, have you ever considered tasting Japanese wines? Not rice wines, although I am sure that it could be an interesting idea, but wines from Yamanashi prefecture. I just went there last week on holiday(I’ve been working in Japan since 2002) and tried some of their wines; I really liked some of their Chardonnays and Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blends, although what they are really known for is their Koushu and Bailey-A varieties. I am not sure if there are many Japanese wines available where you are, but it would be cool to hear your opinion.

QOTD. You know it has been a really long time since I ate cereal, as most of them are unavailable here, but I would have to say that when I was a kid, I loved Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
