Lines of the day – ‘I am a legend. What you have to appreciate is I’m one of the greats’ and ‘I hate the package’

Phenomenal episode(s) and I agree with Karl (below) that these shows normally work best when the guests are able to match GV’s personality and knowledge. And Gary, you are 100% spot on, the label on that 2nd wine is a shocker.

  • Gary, episodes like the last two r the reason i love this show. Great guest, good times, and you did an awesome job interviewing him.

    QOTD: Not really

GV — Awsome show. I can’t believe that the two of you have not spent lots of time together before that.

QOTD: I’m meh on the label. Good idea, but lacks some zip. I see a few offers for design services. Sounds like a great chance for a contest . . .

QOTD: I actually like it Gary – it’s a simple but elegant label and now that we know the idea behind it, it’s really rather beautiful in my opinion. Yes, I know I’m being arty farty but I don’t care!

This show proves that you don?t interrupt too much?. The guests just don?t hold up to you. The energy jumped off the screen.

QOTD: Reminds me of the old Adelsheim labels. But at this price point it?s a hand sell not competing with neon animal labels.

THANK YOU, NICK, G.!!! You killed it on this one! (not just crushed it)

I love Alexander Valley Cabs, and always found a number of examples that delevered, minus the extraordinary real estate expenses. I love Oakville, as well, and though I haven’t had Tim Mondavi’s Continuum, from most the 1980’s on clear through the 90’s, and some of new millenium, Robert Mondavi Oakville has been HANDS DOWN, my favorite of their efforts (The Stag’s Leap was as well, but was rarer, AND higher priced.). Thanks for reminding GV (and us) what goes into that extra year of sitting on the wine, and what constitutes much in that $70 (and up) price tier. It’s like having a Bentley sitting in your garage, and waiting for restoration parts to arrive next year.

QotD – I like it. It evokes, along with the name, a specific heritage and family pride, not unlike the label of Opus One, for example.

  • Nick, The Label is BEAUTIFUL, doesn’t look like anything less than a nice bottle of wine to me.

Gary, I really don’t like how you treated Nick towards the end of the episode. Saying you were going to take the bottle home, telling him he would never come back to the show. I know you might have been trying to be funny, but after watching you for so many hundreds of episodes, and watching you interact with so many guests, I really think your sarcasm is undetectable and offensive sometimes – as it was in the end of this episode.

QOTD: I’m not crazy about the label, but labels are not my big motivation in purchasing wines.

Nick, I like that you put your confidence in your vineyard over yourself. Its all about location, location, location.

O.M.G. this is officially my favorite episode (both parts together). Now to run off and find some of Mr. Nick’s wines.

Thank you, thank you Gary for putting out this content!

Gary, you’re most entertaining guest I’ve seen thus far. Part 2 helped tie everything together better than other 2 parters I’ve seen, informative too.
qotd: I think the label is ok, not especially great, not especially terrible.

Nick, you killed it. Love your wines, especially the Forefathers stuff. You could keep up with Gary and educate us – that’s a nice combo.

QOTD – the label is memorable once you look at it, but it’s hard to understand with a brief glance so it might be tough on a shelf.

  • Absolutely the best guest ever. I concur on the label. Crayon drawings just don’t do it for me unless the child actually did the drawing. I have had the Forefathers Cabernet once before but I can’t remember where. Need some good whites to have a full mix.

Awesome guest. I think he could actually keep up with your fast paced style of interviewing. lol.

Qotd: I like that label. I save all my wine bottles that I like so that one would definitely be a keeper.

Wow…2nd half was better than the first. Nick is a stud. Gary – you’d better tell us how that Forefathers cab is!

QOTD: I’d like to say that I like it, but it’s not that great. I don’t think it stands out as a bad label, but reminds of the type of graphic design that was being done in the late 90’s – you know, like when everybody was making webpages with sanscript and whatnot?

  • Great finish with round 2!! GREAT guest and you guys rocked

QOTD- I like the label but agree with GV….looks like a cheaper bottle to me that you get from the corner store. But there again it proves you can’t judge a book by its cover.

    Great guest.
QOTD: I like the label. Plus, I am always grabbing new wines to try and if I really liked the wine, this label wold be easy to find again in a store.
