Great guest! Would love to see his vineyard. Is it just me, doesn’t he look just like Katie Scarlotte O’Hara’s dad??? OMG..what did he always say about the land??!!

qotd — yes, I think you represented your wines well

“that Tara – that land doesn’t mean anything to you? Why, land’s the only thing in the world worth working for, worth fighting for, worth dying for, because it’s the only thing that lasts.”

Nice show, love to learn more about the Pacific Northwest wines, really one of my first interests when i got into wine.

QOTD: Mr. Shea you did good. As you said in the beginning you let your wines speak for you, and while your not wildly entertaining you had some great info and proved yourself when Gary took a 3rd sip of you top wine… im not sure how many times thats happened on WLTV, but i know its ultra-rare.

      PEACE

QOTD should have been ‘did i do well?’…and that depends on what well means. Gary, you are guests best friends in terms of making this show worth my time. I will keep homer in mind.

MOtt was gone and the battery died. I think that’s a sign that he is to be given NO MORE time off. Ever.

      GV,
Let’s get serious… In this economy who is going to pay for Shea’s high priced pinots? As soon as I hear the price I make a decision as to whether to keep listening. Why invest the time if there is no chance I am going to spring for a $$$$$$ wine. Sure we all will splurge for special occassions but how often?
      Love your show. Avid lurker.

    • You have been def. guest’it up lately. This is a great way to learn about wine, because with out these guys wine is just grape juice.

QOTD: yesssiiir. I like that you produce wines for yourself. I ve met a lot of producers in Italy that make wine for the same reason, and their wines are the best!

    • QOTD: You did good. Very humble. I like it. You’d be doing better if you offered some sort of Vayniac deal on the Homer… Say half price?

You always get honesty from an Irishman and Dick is no exception. Growing up in the greater Chicago area (Evanston) where there is more Irishmen than Dublin, I should know! Gary and Dick, thanks for the nurdie aspects; Gary, I loved your comment about the ‘punt’; the first thing I do when I pick up a bottle is check the punt out; if it is weak, then the wine inveritably follows suit. We will make the drive up from Reno to see your vineyard/winery Dick. Thank you.

      Great Episode!
      QOTD: You did good Homer.
That brings to mind a few famous quotes from Homer Simpson:
?Here’s to alcohol: the cause of, and solution to, all of life’s problems.?
?How is education supposed to make me feel smarter? Besides, every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain. Remember when I took that home winemaking course, and I forgot how to drive??

My father used to own a contracting company (Wiener Contractors) and built a few contempory houses in Greenwich CT in the 80’s. Dick bought one of them and a couple years ago we revisited that house which Dick had sold to another family. Since then I’ve been very interested in trying Shea wines. I once had a Shea wine from another winery (can’t remember off the bat) and it was great! Will have to visit Homer one of these days and bring my dad!

Interesting guest yet again. (Semi-seriously, does the wine business attract good people or have you just been lucky with your guests?)

QOTD: You did well on the show, Mr. Shea, and from what you said about selling your grapes, you’re also doing good. [/pedantry]

      Gary,

When are you going to do an episode on 2007 Ontario wines. Niagara experienced it’s best vintage ever! Why not try a Le Clos Jordan Pinot?

Good show, even if Shea vineyard wines have been hit or miss with me in the past depending on which producer they are from.

Dick, you should never listen to Robert about the wine market in DC, lol.

QOTD: You did great, now just let us in when we call in early Nov.
