    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW, TOP 50 !!!!!!! 🙂

Wines from the Jura will always make the list of most unique. I tasted a savagnin, very oxidized, mapley, sherry-like and intensely thought-provoking. I couldn’t spring for a bottle because there’s absolutely no one I know who I could share it with. Also from the Jura, I enjoyed a pinot noir from Ganevat. A little “rusty” tasting as well with delicious sour red fruit notes. Jura wines are always plate expanders.
Also like the brikser pace of these shows.

Of course, I meant “brisker.” But that Ganevat pinot was pretty “brikser”

nice show and off beat. way to do it from time to time.

QOTD – it would have to be about a year ago and it was a 97 riesling VT from pierre frick. it was all over the place, from old lychee to diesel and kept moving. at first i was thinking it was not good then i just realized it was complex and interesting. i was getting lots of different stuff each time.

QOTD: 1989 Theo Loosen Riesling Kabinett. Not a very special wine in it’s self but I would be surprised if there are alot of other bottles of this stuff around because to few people drank this sort of wine in germany back then and even less people put their wine away for 20 years. Somehow alot of people around here still think Riesling can’t be aged. Which is bullshit as we all know.

Very nice show Gary! It’s always nice to nerd it up!!

Nice label on the 1990 Reserve Chard, looks like the Rain Forest.

QOTD: Chateau Kefraya 2001, from Lebanon. An old world wine with new world sunshine.

Nice episode! It’s nice to see such an old New World Chardonnay still holding up at that age. I’ve never heard of a still wine being held on the lees that long. cool.

I haven’t had that many “unique” wines. I’d probably have to say a Manzoni Bianco from Italy. I forget the producer, but it’s a rare cross with a flavor profile unlike that of anything else I’ve encountered. It’s one of those wines that I don’t even like aesthetically but I will drink for the geek factor.

I liked the concept of the show, and the follow-up on the forums is hilarious. Probably too expensive for me to check these out, but I would someday love to give this style a whirl. One thing, though: Don’t take calls on the show. It’s rude. Don’t be such a slave to your phone. Let it ring. They can wait six or seven minutes.

QOTD: I haven’t had any truly unique wines. Kopke tawny port is different from a typical tawny, though. Pop and pour and it sucks hard. Harsh and unpleasant, both nose and palate. Leave the bottle open for a couple days and it magically turns into pretty good juice.

QOTD: Vino con Brio Estate Pinotage – I can’t remember the exact vintage, maybe the 2002? The winery is in Lodi, CA. It’s definitely different than the South African pinotage’s I’ve tried. But, very good too. Their ’05 pinotage recently won some awards, have not tried that one yet.

ALSO, the Broncos are 3-0, not 2-0! Although, the rest of the year’s looking quite tough and the team is full of all new players. If it weren’t for the blue and orange jerseys, you would not recognize them as “the Broncos.”

  • Hey GV….

It’s been a while since i left a comment on here. Good show. I like these shows were we are able to learn new things. Plus it is great to see people showing that you can treat the grape differently and still end up with a great product. Makes me want to get out there and find my own little technique.

QOTD: 1976 Port…. it looked like coffee and tasted so freaking good! Can’t remember who the maker was. The label was dried up and flaking off. It looked scary when it was poured out but tasted like smooth chocolate (at least to me with a little coffee).

  • QOTD: Giorgio & Vesna Clai “Sveti Jakov” Malvasjia 2006 – wanted to love and hate this wine at the same time

Not sure if you’ve ever done any Kalin Cellars’ wines on the show, but I have been a HUGE fan of Terry Leighton’s wines for a decade. You should taste his current releases all together on a show.

I would give you more grief about the Saints forthcoming victory, but you have already taken enough.

    Love this show, BTW

QOTD: I had a 1969 Chianti – it tasted like dirt and dried raisins – in a good way. The wine steward thought we were crazy, but it was a unique wine experience.
