Good, tight episode, like the new shorter format

QOTD: We have a Clos du Marquis in our cellar that I’m dying to open. That’s on the list. I also need to learn more about the Italian varietals, so I’ll be checking some of those out as well.

QOTD: Ridge Monte bello, not sure which year yet, but I’ve yet to try it and I know it will be a perfect accompaniment to a long birthday weekend in Montreal…

  • Despite today?s sun, it is getting nippy here in Asia too, which means I can curl up on the sofa with some nice 2005 Bordeauxs I?ve been keeping.

I don?t know if you can get it in the US, but when I was back in the UK I used to drink a lot of Traidcraft?s Fairtrade Torrontes. That reminds me of an idea I had last week actually, how about a Fairtrade wine show?

    Enjoy the book tour.

  • You think torrontés jumped the shark that quick in the U.S.? Damn. I feel the Crios by Bodegas Susan Balbo or Bilbo, whatever, is an easy go to (and easy to find). Nothing special but has the varietal characteristics and decent on the qpr scale.

QOTD: Portuguese Reds, Chinon, Beaujolais Cru and a Condrieu white with some dungeness crab perhaps… mmmmmm.

QOTD: I’ve been holding off on drinking some of the village-tier ’07 Southern Rhone wines that I picked up over the last 6 months, and I think the extra bottle time will serve them well as I pop them over the colder winter months (even though I know they are still YOUNG)!

Despite the bad wines overall a good show: compact and to the point.

QOTD. First of all I’m looking forword for the La Cana, Albarinho I orderd after your show. Tomorrow it will be delivered.
For the rest fall is equivalent for aged and complex wines, style Bordeaux.

  • I like the idea of the battles. I think they let you better evaluate the varietal expression when they are tasted next to each other.

QOTD: Well its truffle and porcini season in italy, so I am drinking barolo barbaresco, gattinarra, and ghemme

I am looking forward to Portuguese reds and reds from the Languedoc and any other earthy spicy reds that seem fall-like to me.

I toured Mendoza in Feb. this year primarily for the Malbecs. We hit a bunch of the places and attempted to drink wines that were not being exported to the USA. We actually found a few good Torrontes here & there but primarily the wines failed to deliver the goods. Still not giving up on them yet as I believe they can be nice on hot summer day.

The JETS defense last night looked lost against the fish. I was disgusted with that game. People are getting way too excited about this team. Many holes were exposed in the last two weeks so REX better right the ship before it goes down.

The wine I am looking foward to drinking this fall is Brunello with a fat juicy Steak Florentine!

Good luck with the book tour…………

QOTD: With the Fall brisk weather, it’s bye-bye Torrontes, Colombard-Ugni Blanc, Muscadet de Sevre et Maine and hello Gigondas and Vacqueyras and Carmenere.

Too bad about the JETZ, G !!! Great football game for my Poker Night, though.

AotD: I’d like to try some Barolo’s and Brunellos.

    Soaked in cider!

    GV,

I haven’t watched this episode yet, but I wanted to tell you that I just saw that Crush It got some props over at one of my favorite sites (after WL of course) the Get Rich Slowly blog. Nice hustling, and I like the Cinderella Wine idea. You are a marketing mad man. Sorry about the J-E-T-S last night.

Keep crushing it for Union County NJ.

QOTD: I already started my Autumn ritual of drinking Zinfandels and Petite Syrahs! But I certainly would enjoy a wine from Lirac!

    sorry your Jets lost

Petite Syrah, one of my faves, the earthiness and dark fruit, great for chilly fall evenings. Good show, just like in life, can’t pick winners all the time.

  • Love the shorter show format. Keep up the great work! Look forward to getting and giving Crush It! a read. Good luck on the book tour.

QOTD: I have two wines that I got at a CT winery this summer that are big reds of the St. Croix grape varietal that I am itching to drink with a nice harty beef stew some cold Sunday afternoon while watching the Pats bring the thunder on the field.

I like the head-to-head format, what do you think about adding another dimension and doing it single blind too?

qotd – Usually this time of year I start to move towards Zins and Northern Rhone wines, but I’ve been trying all sorts of different things lately and I want to keep branching out… perhaps some Italian red varietals I don’t know too much about. I also bought some 07 CDP, and I’m going to keep whites in the mix, lately I’ve been pretty high on Vouvray, but I think I’m going to start exploring German and Alsatian Reislings a little more too I feel like there’s so much diversity and complexity within that category and I’ve only scratched the surface.

Love the show, as always. Nice to see you changing things up little bit GV. I feel the same with Torrontes, where as I dont enjoy what I’m buying. I would rather pay a couple extra dollars and get a NZ Sav. Blanc, than force down another Torrontes. Sorry.

QOTD: Right now I would like a big CA Zin.

Gary, I love the head-to-head battle idea and i’m looking forward to more of them! Never had a torrontes, but hopefully there are some good ones out there–maybe a show that finds some of those?

QOTD: I think I have convinced my mom to open her bottle of 1982 Chateau Suduiraut sauternes at Thanksgiving this year–everything i’ve read about it has said its past due! How cool would that be!?
