QOTD: I’ve got a little California bubbly lined up tonight just because it’s Friday, then for Sunday, a bottle of French dessert wine for my parents for their anniversary.

  • QOTD: Not sure about wines for weekend as we are having not one but two
birthday parties for our 8 year old son.

I will say that I opened one of the bottles of Robert Young Scion that I got from CinderellaWine.com, earlier this week and loved it. Can’t wait to see what tonight’s offering will be…

I went to Calera a few months ago while looking for another winery in the area. They do mostly Pinot Noirs and I don’t think we even tried the whites. they seemed a little pricey but I bought one of their cheaper Pinots @ 25ish bones. I don’t drink much Pinot but theirs is rather nice and I will be back. I opened a Sangiovese from the Siera foothills last night and I’ll try to finish it before I open a big ass Cali Cab.
We’re ready for the flip cam in the hotel.

QOTD: 2005 Periscope Cellars Deep Six Red. Had my first bottle a couple of years ago and my notes were: “I really haven?t made up my mind about this blend. I don?t know if I feel like this is the ?mad scientist? blending, blending, blending until he shrieks ?Eureka!? or whether he finally got tired of testing and said ?Oh hell, bottle it.? I?ll wait a year and try it again but I wasn?t inspired to run to the computer to buy more.”

It will be interesting to see if it has improved or gone downhill.

We may have to open a bottle of Argiano Solengo 2003 from Cinderella because it’s so effing awesome. For those of you that got that first cinderella, please please please decant and let it open up for an hour or so before drinking! Saturday, I’ll be drinking some Tularosa Vineyards wine because they are having their 20th anniversery bash, Congrats Dave and Chris!! Sunday, winding down, and getting ready for the grind again.

I was not able to get these wines. Good episode none the less.
QOTD: Football requires me to drink beer. But this weekend, I am going to crack a bottle of 2004 BV Tapestry.

  • Jim Ford

QOTD: Don’t know when the game will be, but this weekend will be drinking the local St Georges d’Orques (near Montpellier, France), Coteaux de Languedoc, barrel wine. We just discovered the local ‘Cave Cooperative’ for the wine made over the hill, and it’s not too bad. It’s cool: I can ride my bike over the hill and do a wine tasting at the local chateau.

Talk about value for money: this is very good ‘table wine,’ but is AOC. It costs around 2.5 euros (3 bucks or so) per liter and is very tasty, very serviceable wine for dinner. But not fancy. Maybe we will get bored with it soon.

    QOTD:
A Hansel ’07 chardonnay (cahill lane), and a recent Chateauneuf… perhaps an ’03 perrin reserve.

  • John Farrin

The Deep Six blend was 46% Syrah; 13% Tannat; 13% Cabernet Sauvignon; 12% Petite Verdot; 8% Zinfandel; 8% Petite Sirah

  • QOTD: Camping this weekend, Snow is predicted. I’m taking some rye Manhattans, pre-mixed in a couple of wine splits. Gotta keep out the chill.

My daughter is in town for a couple of weeks. We are going to finish the Capcanes Mas Donis Barrica 2005 we opened last night. Only $15, a great value and WA91.

  • For all of you Sonoma County/Russian River Valley afficianado’s out there, note that Healdsburg Ranches wines are made by Troy McEnery of the former Belvedere Winery. Bill Hambrecht, the owner of Belvedere and Bradford Mountain, sold the Belvedere name and converted Belvedere to C. Donatiello, a high end pinot noir/chardonnay house. They brought in Webster Marquez, formerly of Williams Selyem and co-winemaker at Anthill Farms, to produce their new line of pinots. Troy remains the winemaker at Bradford Mountain (excellent zinfandels and syrahs from the Grist Vineyard on Bradford Mountain), and is the winemaker for the new Healdsburg Ranches label. So, if you liked the old Belvedere wines, you should definitely seek out the Healdsburg Ranches and Bradford Mountain wines. Troy is doing a great job, and in fact, just won gold medals for both his Bradford Mountain zin and syrah at the Sonoma County Harvest Fair. I hope that Healdsburg Ranches comes out with a pinot noir in the old Belvedere style! (Hint Hint)

QOTD – after last night’s dinner party, I am thinking ice water sounds pretty good for the next few days…

Excited about trying the Calera, sounds like a white I’d like (prefer reds). Don’t watch sports; will be sharing a meal with friends tomorrow PM outdoors in the gorgeous fall weather, cheeses, a stew, etc, don’t yet know what they’ll be serving to drink but probably some hearty reds & some dark beers.
