I like these tighter, shorter shows but this one is possibly too short. You just can’t please some people!

  • I tried a Meursault once and it was just OK, nothing spectacular.
I think these short format episodes are excellent.

QOTD: I thought the whole Google Wave campaign was overhyped.

QOTD: I would say the last two Jets games, but really, they did fine. I was disappointed of course, but not a big deal.
So, I’ll have to go with the Albuquerque Symphony. My friend and I have Seasons tickets (for just 4 symphonies), and due to labor disputes, they have “postponed” the last 3, and the last one was going to be on Halloween, my favorite holiday, and we were so looking forward to it. A not insignificant amount of money is involved. If the symphony folds we’ll really feel used. I know it’s not all about me, but still. There’s more to the story, but I won’t belabor the point.
Do you have anyone who speaks French there? The French pronunciation is improving, but needs just a little tweaking.

QOTD: Can’t say if the Raiders terrible record was a let down but it sure was a meltdown.

I like the tighter focused shows but mix it up with the old casual couch Fridays and viewer email.

  • Love the focus of the shows. I think reason they are shorter comes from the fact that you are “yapping” less about football and book releases, not that that is good or bad thing necessarily. Also, the head to head, as cool as it is, gets a little tiresome. I feel like I’m getting the readers digest version of a tasting when there are only two like bottles on the table.

So, bring back blind tastings! Re-watched a blind tasting episode and forgot how fun they are. It’d be really cool to have 2 or so blind tasting episodes every month (one would even be sufficient). Maybe do more off-the-beaten- path kind of stuff, like Grenache from around the world, or Cabernet-Shiraz blends, Carmenere, Global Sangiovese etc, blind of course.

Anyway, its hard to complain when your giving all of us a solid wine education for free.

QOTD: What’s there to be dissapointed about…

qotd: A ’99 Lafite-Rothchild. Must’ve built it up to much in my mind. Definitely nowhere near as good as the ’96 Petrus I got to try, and didn’t have near the Q.P.R. as the ’97 Stag’s Leap Cask 23 I tried that was a 3rd of the price as the ’99 Lafite-Rothchild. Although, having never had it before, I was expecting something of mythic proportions, so I wonder if there was any way it could have lived up to expectation. On the other hand, the Petrus went miles ahead of the already very high expectatiohns I had.

Gary, will you do a vin jaune episode for us?

I like the short shows, GV. They’re easier to swallow on a day to day basis. QOTD: I was major hyped for the ND-USC game this past weekend (I went down to campus). I really thought we could do it. And I’m just so sad and disappointed.

    Keep it real.

Just found you! Wow. You are a hoot! Love your descriptions and enthusiasm!

I have started a wine tasting group for women. Nothing against men, but when couples are involved, I find the men take the lead. My husband doesn’t get into wine as much as I do. So this group is a way for me to find or cultivate more women friends with wine knowledge.

Last night I ran down to my cellar to see the year on the vintage of the Frescobaldi Brunello Di Montalcino’s I got at a charity auction last year. After watching you taste this, I hoped for a 2004, but mine were 1995 and 1999. Not sure if those years compare.

Any way, I’m sure by weeks end, I will have watched most of your episodes – so much more fun than TV.

Thanks, G. Had a really good little South African Chard. last night. Not quite at the white Burg. level, but good nonetheless.

QOTD: 1) The Bears losing to the Falcons; 2) A syrah that got great press, but left me feeling…meh.

definitely keep these tight shows. As long as they are informative and purposeful I think you have come full circle and refined your style to where it should be. Also really enjoying a run of episodes without any guests.

MLB playoffs, with the Giants and Red Soxs out I have no one to root for. A Dodgers v Yankees WS would be a total bummer.

Good show. I do like the tighter (10 min) shows. It’s ok to stretch out when there is a guest (need to hear the stories), but most of the time I really like the daily SHORT drink.

QOTD: Lansing Lugnuts (Class A minor league baseball) coming in last place and (obviously) missing the playoffs. And the Tigers missed, too (:
