Couldn’t agree more about the horrible packaging on the Pehu. Unfortunately I’m not a P Diddy style baller so won’t be trying it

  • Hey GV…

Hope your book tour travels are going well. I really enjoyed the last 3 episodes. As you know I’ve got a fairly simple pallet. So i haven’t tried a lot of sparkling wines. You may laugh at my favorite but it has to be the Blanc de Blanc from Brotherhood Winery. It’s dry and I like the acid it brings.

    Cheers!

  • Duh! Man, where is the sabre action 🙂
QOTD: I usally don’t devour bubbles,(don’t know why) but one comes to mind 1999 Ayala Brut
Great smell of red apples, yellow plums and bread and the taste a mix of blood orange and nuts. Small bubbles and nice acidity.

    Nice and TIGHT show…

Again, great to meet you last night… hope it’s the first of MANY!!

QOTD: Our Son just graduated from HS this past June… some friends of ours gave us a bottle of 1995 Dom Perignon… Previously we’ve had Dom and weren’t too impressed… I must say this bottle brought the THUNDER…

  • We have to get away from these bubbles.

I need to see some more $10.00 – $15.00 wines that I can drink and afford.

You should have taken the sword to those bottles. Now I know you can do it, I expect it!

  • I’m glad you mentioned something about that package because it really is awful.

QOTD: The best bottle of bubbles, not champagne, was a 3L of Segura Viudas on the 18th green after a HUGE golf tournament win with my brother and two of our frieds. We dominated a scramble. Amazing weekend that was capped off by a showering of decent quality bubbles.

  • QOTD: My favorite bubbles is the Cremant from Domaine Chandon in Napa, CA. It’s available only to Club Chandon members and is a ridiculous steal at about $24 a bottle, though they’re sold out at the moment.

My WORST moment involved chilling a bottle of said Cremant, in my refrigerator, in anticipation of a party later that night. I went to pull out a food dish and did not notice how close the bottle was getting to the shelf edge (I’m tall, and it was on the top fridge shelf of a stacked freezer/fridge), and out came the bottle.

Green shattered glass EVERYWHERE. All that wonderful bubbly, gone. Cleanup took time, but I still haven’t fully recovered.

1996 Bruno Pailllard, opened as a special event last week. Simply spectacular…
And yeah, that packaging was unimaginative at best. Good call.

Way to go GV, I’ve also recently been rediscovering my love for Champagne.

Best of my life: a 25 year old Recently Disgorged Tradition from Bollinger, in the company of M/M Christian Bizot, who was then the Director/Owner of the house, 1985 in Chicago. I think the wine was a ’59 or ’61, disgorged just months before the tasting . . . wow!!

  • You must have spent an entire day banging out WLTV episodes before you left.

QOTD-Last memorable time with bubbles was opening night of the bar I was working at. After close the owner was feeling loose with the $ and let us drink our fill of Clicquot. It was a good end to a back breaking day.
