Awesome episode! Canadian wines seem unique.

What do you think makes them special?

qotd love Canada, been twice. never been to Toronto.
most recent wine was Castello di Selvole Chianti Classico 2004. 84 pts. not bad, nothing worth bragging about. It was overpriced.

glad tour is going well Gary.
would be great to see you do a vin jaune episode when you get back home

QOTD: Went to Toronto/Niagara as a teenager, then Montreal/Quebec City as an adult. Loved every place I visited and the hockey games I saw, since about every minor league team in SC has folded. Next time I want to visit the Maritimes, if I can avoid the coyotes.

    QOTD2: 2006 Sangria de Toro 82+

Too funny figured you would keep plugging after getting dropped off, but reviewing the mini-bar wine is a beauty. Toronto rules. Drank an 07 Cote du Rhone last night 88.

    HI GV,

I haven’t seen the show since mid sept…actually, I came back to see you’re prediction on the NY Jet – Miami game 🙂

I’m glade you’re in Toronto and that you’re book is selling well (it’s on my christmas list). You’re absolutely right, Toronto is a great place(not a so great hockey team, but a great city)! Nice show (I like it when it’s under 10 min). We did the Niagara Fall Wine Festival last year & hopefully we’ll be back for more wine touring next year and this time we’re bringing the kids.

My last bottle was a 2007 Château de Pennautier Cabardès. My first Cabardès! It was Ok, maybe a little bit young, but didn’t “bring any thunder” to me! But, the nose was interesting…I will seek another Cabardès if I can find some.

  • Just finished a Frank Family Reserve Chardonnay 2006. Really liked it. Good structure nice fruit, more like Anderson Valley than Napa but this is the North side of Napa. Enjoyed every time I was in Toronto but haven’t been back in 5 years. My preference is still Montreal and Quebec City.

From our cellar, ’05 + ’06 + ’07 vertical of Orin Swift “The Prisoner” celebrating good friends recent promotions. The ’05 was absolutely spectacular at 93 and the other two were just very, very good 90, 89. A year ago we had another ’05 and gave it a 91 back then, it has evolved and is fabulous if you are shamelessly “New World” like Mrs. Ohio and me.

The first ’07 we popped was corked… so once again, don’t save one special bottle for a special occasion without backup. We’ve been fortunate, probably have a corked one for every 40-50 we open.

I’ve lived in Toronto for the past 3 years and got to say it is a great city… anyone coming to visit you have to check out Kensington Market which is an amazing neighborhood!!! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kensington_Market)

    Gary – you’re a legend.
How did the Jets lose against Miami!!!! I lost £4000 on the game – aaaaaaargh.

My question is. What is the portable camera you used in today’s episode? The picture quality was better than the regular shows. That camera rocks.

    All the best

    QOTD#1- haven’t been!

QOTD#2 – ’06 Gascon Malbec – I have recently enjoyed malbecs so i bought this inexpensive bottle for a ladies night! I polished the whole bottle and introduced someone else into the malbec world. I really enjoyed the wine but not sure if I was just excited to be away from the kids for the night. I have never really rated a wine before but in my own little world I will give it a 89+

Always enjoy the hotel episodes, nice work Gary! Its funny you had a Cave Springs because I tried their Riesling about a month ago and it was GOOD! Nice complexity and midpalate and had some peach/pear dipped in gasoline action on the nice.

QOTD1: I’ve only been to Canada once to go skiing in Quebec. I have not been to Toronto but have heard its a great city so I want to visit.

QOTD2: Martin Codax 2006 Tempranillo from Rioja — 89+ points.
