Awesome episode! Canadian wines seem unique.

What do you think makes them special?

Another great show, and we miss you, too! Thanks for taking the time in your hotel room to remember us!!!

QOTD: Been to Toronto many times on BIZ. Two great memories… the architecure of the city, and the fact that you can walk around ANYWHERE at any hour of the nite and feel perfectly safe. The second, my beautiful friend Kathy H. who did a Montreal-to-Vancouver Biz trip with me many years ago. Miss you Kathy! Hugs!!!

    Hi, Gary!

Great little episode. Love to see you do a show with some more Canadian wines in it, particularly Ontario because that’s where I’m at. Toronto all the way, I love being (relatively) close to downtown.

All the best with your book!

  • Good episode, finding the time to these even when traveling, just awesome 🙂 QOTD: Never been to Canada but from what I’ve heard they’re pretty much like us Finns. QOTD Part II: Had some German Riesling 2007 last friday nigth and it wasn’t so much the wine that was good but the pairing with a little bit of chili first and then some blackcurrant baltic herring, mmmm-m! 🙂

Really enjoy the hotel websodes too! Wondering why you don’t bring along a bottle of your own to try when you are planning a hotel websode . . .

QOTD: 2004 Villa Creek Mas De Maha Tempranillo — 90 points and delicious right now.

QOTD: a cheapie (times are tough).. 07 Big House Red, 83. Not bad really. Twist off cap, which shouldn’t bother me, but it does in some way (not as romantic, but then again, this was a $7 wine)

  • Purple Grillz

QOTD 2003 Rosenblum red wine blend Oakley Vineyard Contra Costa County.
    67% Zin 16% Petit Syrah, 17% Carignan. $15 USD

Orange Peel, Strawberry, Rust, Leaf Pile, Green Olives, On the verge of either heading into peak drinking years or the drain, can’t tell because I bought this last week in a warm liquor store. Definitely crack one if you have it in the cellar and have been tracking it.

Definitely better with food, Chevre and fresh whole grain bread, not a cocktail wine.

You look homesick Gary, hang in there. Keep up the good work!
An excellent wine for palette burnout, very unique. 88 points

    Gary,
As always love the show. To answere the quest. of the day. My wife and I went to Canada after our wedding a couple of yrs ago to and drove around to many diff. wineries and that is what set the motion of the idea of opening my wine bar. I truly enjoy alot of the wines from there. I enjoy the French influence on the wines. Pillitteri and the Peller Estate wineries were two of my favorites. So as you can see I love the wines and agree they could be big in the states. Have not been to Ontario. Maybe the wine was disjointed a little due to not breathing at all.

Nice little show – we miss you, too, GV.

QOTD: Living in Cleveland, OH, we travel to Canada almost yearly. Windsor, Toronto, and we really like to go to Niagara-on-the-Lake and attend the Shaw Festival and have some nice Canadian wines from that region. I find their cab franc to be very Loire-like.

Last wine I had was last night. I made BBQ ribs on the grill and we had a bottle of 2001 Consilience Petite Sirah from Santa Barbara and it went very well with the ribs. Very jammy, with blackberries and blueberries. 90+ points

  • QOTD #1: Canada has some really hot girls and it’s always a good time when I go up there.

QOTD#2: Had an ’04 Sandhill Merlot from Red Mountain. Really good. Teetering between a 90 and 91, but had to go 90 on it.

  • Thanks for the down and dirty episode…I’m sure you are having a lot of fun while traveling, but no matter how you cut it, coming back to an empty hotel room can be a let down. Hopefully Lizzie and Misha will be able to road trip with you now and again. Thanks so much for thinking of us, and cranking out the content as soon as you got back. Crush It! has arrived…

QOTD: growing up in the Adirondacks of upstate NY and up on Lake Champlain in the summers, to us Montreal was THE CITY. We make it up there a couple of times a year, and are trying to carve out time for Quebec City. Was in Toronto when I was very young and would like to go back as well. Train across Canada might fun.

    Gary –

Miss your usual episodes, if there is now such a thing. However, glad you are doing well. Great news on the book!

Enjoy your daughter’s first halloween. It’s great, in a few years she will really get into it.

QTD – Canada. Nothing but positives. Yes, many, many positives about Toronto. It’s cleanliness, it ethnic varieties, etc. Just good praise for it.

QTD – Last wine we had was a 2004 Thorn Clarke Shiraz (Halloween evening, out on the front steps here in chilly Cleveland handing out candy and saying hi to friends/neighbors before we barricade ourselves indoors for the winter). Tasting very good, tannins mellowed out with a good core of fruit remaining. Glad I have another one or two remaining.

Sorry that a Cleveland product, Ted Ginn Jr., went crazy against your Jets yesterday. I don’t think he has the talent to be a starting #1 receiver but he does show great skills on those kickoffs.
