Awesome episode! Canadian wines seem unique.

What do you think makes them special?

    Nicely done.
QOTD: 8$ local sauvignon blanc – that bottle was 81 maybe 82 points but neither me nor my friends complained about it.

    Keep up the good work.

  • Gary, thanks for bringing back the hotel wine episode. Way to spice it up on the road!

QOTD: I love Canada, being born and raised here helps that. A little biased I know, but it is safe, clean, fun, and BEAUTIFUL. Toronto, being our most populous city, it is beautiful, you’re right Gary. I always have a lot of fun there. Most of my friends live in Toronto so it is always fun, it is entirely different than Montreal. Toronto is more of the metropolitan, it is more Bank, Financial, hustle and bustle, big city crowd, Montreal is a little more laid back, the art and culture scene is what differentiates the two, Toronto still has the arts in culture, it is just more European, more liberal, just different.

QOTD2 last wine i critiqued … Tinto Fina Gazur, 84 points, nothing spectacular, I didn’t fall off my chair, it went well with the chorizo I was eating. It had a casper the ghost action going on in the midpalate. PASSSSS!

QOTD2: Got a Patrick Lesec Bargeton C9DP 2005 this weekend along with other 5-6 C9DP. Living in Canada, i’ve found it without the Wine Club C. You were so right about this wine, so silky and rich with great structure. 96pts for my palate.

  • Born Canadian baby. Toronto – nice place to visit, but not home – born in the West, think Calgary or Vancouver.

    Last wine: 06 Ca’marcanda Promis -91 points

The body on this wine is medium with a gorgeous dark purplish – black core. This wine has a beautiful fresh perfume to it with notes of sweet berry fruits and violets. A wonderful impression of new oak, milk chocolate and some additonal notes of fruitcake. After some glass time, a touch of funkiness and perhaps a bit of heat show as well. Beautifully fresh with sweet, almost candied berry fruit up front with medium acidity trailing to dark, earthy tannins on the finish. The execution on this wine is superb and like a well thought out puzzle; all the pieces fit together perfectly.

    2006 Henri Perrot-Minot Gevrey-Chambertin
11/1/2009 rated 92 points: 92+ Pts. This is a very tasty stuff. Beautiful color and a wonderful red burgundy nose. Little stemmy, earthy with soft red fruit, the type of nose that makes your mouth water. Balanced on the palate with a great sour cherrys and earth. Spicy with great clove notes that add interest. Nice soft tannins and less acidity than I’ve seen in most ’06s. Best thing about this wine is the finish, goes on for 30+ seconds, and makes you take another sip. Recommended. Drink over the next 3-5 years…AMM (45 views)

Miss you too Gary! Don’t have much thoughts on Canada because I’ve never been there, but the few Canadians I know are pretty awesome people.

QOTD: I suppose you mean the last wine I’ve had that I haven’t had a billion times, and last night I drank a 2005 Forest Glen Cab…it was a real El Cheapo bottle like 7.99 but the pickings were slim. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised it wasn’t too bad, nothing terribly interesting, but totally drinkable. 85 points.

I camped on the beach just outside of Sqamish north of Vancouver a couple times and it was beautiful. I celebrated my 40th in Squamish and had a great time. Whistler was awesome, riding mountain bikes down that sucker. It’s all gonna change when the Olympics come. Hopefully they won’t commercialize it too too much.

2002 Vin de Paille, Pierre Richard – tasted at the Salon des Vins wine tasting in Lyon.
Very underrated dessert wine from Côtes du Jura. Amazing concentration and richness from the dried grape vinification. Up front, a well-balanced taste of maple sirup combined with a fresh punch of walnut on the midpalate, focused minerality and hints of spice at the back end.

Love Vancouver; if the rest of the country matches up Canada is wonderful.

Last night had a ’01 Trefethen Cab with backyard mesquite grilled steak. wonderful.

The cab had soft tannins, not overly fruity, closer to the “old world” style I prefer. 92 pts.

    QOTD:
    1. I dig the Canada. Dated a Canadian once. He was a hockey player; go figure.
    2. I haven’t been to Toronto since 2005. Had a stopover there. We went out on the town. It was fun, as I recall.
    3. 2007 Cline Ancient Vines Zinfandel. I’d give it an 87. Kinda oaky but I have a special place in my heart for Cline Winery.

I’m hoping to make it to Chicago on Thursday to meet you at the book signing. Keep it real.

Love canada. Calgary is amazing. Would love to go to Quebec. Toronto, yeah, maybe. Whatevs.

Last wine i had i’m drinking right now. 2006 La Joya Chard from Chile. It’s awful. Do not drink this wine. No fruit. Just bitter disgustingness. Finish is awful. Crazy acidity, which I usually enjoy, but doesn’t matter because of aforementioned awfulness.

    peace
