Mott, eat your heart out! Matt’s pan to the wine when the doc was talking was hilarious. It was like Tarantino’s camera waiting at the door while the gangsters wander off to chat about foot massages; waiting (along with the audience) for them to get back to the business at hand. Very cool.

Gary you dropped the BALL! You had to get that guy to taste the wine with you. BOOOO! I know you were in kissin babies and shaking hands mode, so I’ll let it pass. Part of me hated the music behind you but NIN saved the day. I thought airports were supposed to be relaxing? Weird.

Best wine experience in an airport?

This is from the future, I hope it counts….. Popping Latour 82′ on the way to see the Jets in the Superbowl.

  • Good show today. I love these ones from the road. I agree that you missed an opportunity to bring a potential outsider with an untrained palate in as a guest, but he was stoked to talk to you.

QOTD: When I was dating my wife we lived in two different cities for awhile and we worked the system at the Oakland Airport. This was before Southwest had the check in on-line feature. She would drop me off, I would check in for my flight, she’d circle the airport, then I would get my plastic boarding card and then get picked up and we would drive to Francesco’s. It is a small Italian restaurant near the airport and we’d be there for happy hour, two happy hour martini’s and I would have the waiting time and the flight to sober up enough to drive by the time I got back to LA.

    Oh those were the days.

  • Gary,

You had to know we would be commenting on this episode. Absolutely love that you were crushing nuggets and vino at the airport bar! I hope you wrote a review of your airport bar experience on our site!

QOTD: too many good stories, you know, we do a lot of ‘research’ at airport bars, i mean, that’s what we do. a recent airport bar experience was pretty good… watched two recent college grads get so hammered at the airport bar in honolulu that they missed their plane. that was great. and then guess what, they had about 5 hours more to kill. you can only imagine.

ALSO, OMG, probably the greatest result of my ‘research’ in airport bars was in Portland International Airport PDX recently when after throwing back a cocktail at Le Bar Caper’s Cafe, I was literally bar hopping within the airport, over to Laurelwood for a quickie before take off and who do i bump into en route??? the man the myth the legend Mr. Gary Vaynerchuk himself… that was so awesome! Great to see you in Portland Gary and thanks for chatting with me and taking pictures with me. Hope you’ve enjoyed meeting my family in different parts of our fine country!

Thanks for everything Gary! You are the reason we keep on keepin’ on. Well, you and our insatiable love of airport bars!

    Hey gary… Traveling soon? 😉 http://www.airportbars.com/

  • Noticed that while you’re on the road you’re drinking the wine instead of spitting it out (understand you’ve been in a restaurant and hotel) but I think this should be the new trend. Spitting is so 2008 🙂

Dr. Quack is on the loose!!!

Hey Gary, Can me and my ego sit down and interrupt your show? I hang out a little to close the the anesthesia so I missed the major hint when you shook my hand and politely told me get get the F%*^k out of town. I’ll hang out over here and talk about myself until you get done tapping your show because I know your dying to hear everything I have to say.

This time the fruit bomb was in a suit and not in the bottle.

Gary, what a fun idea for a show…It was only more exciting to have a soundtrack in the background. What’s not to love about hearing NIN in the background!

QOTD: The best drinking experience I’ve had in an airport was in Sacramento where they had a wine bar/shop after the security gate. They offered interesting wines ranging from Cos d’Estournel to small producers I’d not heard of like Scott Harvey (who makes an amazing reserve Zin!). I think there were plans for them to expand to other major airports in the next few years….

Incase you needed another reason to love Jason Taylor. As if his return homw to Miami this season wasn’t enough of a reason to love that man, I offer you this.

Jason Taylor recently taped an interview for Sirius NFL Radio that will air on Friday. But ESPN’s Tim Graham got ahold of some of what Taylor said and posted it in his blog. I just wanted to highlight a couple of JT’s quotes.

How happy were you to have the opportunity to score a touchdown on Sunday against the Jets, Jason?

“To score a touchdown in New York against the Jets in the last time I’ll be in the hellhole they call a stadium up there before they get rid of it and move to the new one, it was outstanding.”

Why do you dislike Jet fans so much, Jason?

“It’s the times like this where you beat them and they just keep talking. They just keep going, and they just don’t know when to be quiet.”

“You know, I’ve said a lot of things about Jets fans in the past, and I?m sure at heart they’re good people. Most of them are good people. The Giants fans are a different type of people. Just put it that way. There’s a little more class on the Giants’ side, and some Jets fans take the ‘c-l’ out of class.”

On a side note, I know exactly what Jason means. Living in Jersey about a half hour south of the Meadowlands, I know many fans of both the Jets and Giants. And yes, Giants fans are completely different – in a good way.

  • Not a wine experience, and not in the airport but on the plane….a simple beer experience.

I was 21, and you could arrive at Reagan National Airport 10 minutes before a flight at $99 RT to NYC…

So after interviewing George Lois (great ad legend) in NYC, I hop on the plane back to DC, and the stewardess served up complimentary Sam Adams beers. I sat next to Susan Taylor – the editor of Essence magazine for a great conversation for 1hr. A cool day for a young punk, capped off with a good, American beer. Didn’t think about it after all this time until now.

Most amazing was the friggin beer was free??
