I only fly about twice a year. Home to Boston after bringing Dad’s van to FLA for him to have. Then to Orlando to drive it back. As bad as bad a wrap as they might get, I’m a sucker for 2 or 3 of those little airline bottles of wine. I tell the flight attendant to “surprise me” as I enjoy any wine. Good customer, eh? I still enjoy a few pre-flight double screwdrivers though, some traditions you have to keep!

  • In the old days before the shoes incident. Before we left to go somewhere we always brought along a bottle of wine to have with airport food. Usually a wine from the country we are about to visit. For France it was a delicious Chassagne Callierets or for Italy it was a Brunello. Too bad no more. We even took them on board the plane.

    Gary,

I’ve been lurking for months now and your sheer determination to get some content to your fans in the most challenging circumstances has made me want to contribute. Thank you for making my day so many times.

QOTD: Perth Airport last January, a 2006 Shiraz from a small producer called Jarrow Ridge. We’d visited some of the Swan Valley vineyards on our trip so it seemed fitting to enjoy something local as a way of concluding a great trip. Just makes me smile reminising!

Fun, fun show but like an injured player on the field, get him (Dr Drab) off and get on with the show! Good camera work Mott scanning the playing field. 🙂

Love the sweatshirt. Amazing to see someone who is sooo web savvy who “writes” books and promotes WordPress. Keep the printed word alive baby!

We love you G-Man as much as we love you. Thank you for pumping the content no matter where you are! My hero.

QOTD: Geez, great question though I guess my most memorable “airport experience” i.e. wine related would be in Heathrow Airport back in ’93? This may get too long but I tell this to any wine loving geek I know.

I had a Chardonnay (Laurent-Perrier) at Chateau Boyer in Reims (Champagne) and wanted to buy some to take home. The sommelier says it did not “travel” (yeah right) so I hunted throughout Reims, Nice and Monte Carlo to find the wine. Yes, a white chardonnay. No luck. I then tried at Duty Free at Heathrow on the way home. The wine geek said there was no such thing as Laurent-Perrier Chardonnay. I insisted there was such a wine. He brings out a LP brochure and lo and behold there it was on the last page! Needless to say, I got the fax and tel info, and six months later after affixing new Surgeon General’s labels on the bottles (had to pass US Customs) I had 6 cases of my Laurent-Perrier Chardonnay! Was the wine as good as the night at Les Crayeres? By all means, yes. You make your happiness. Choose joy!

Thank you Gary for all you have given us.

    Cheers!

Great cameo. I imagine you’ve had many people like that, trying to engage you with their ideas and the whole history of their business/lives. But hey, it shows you’re connecting with an ethos.

Also, great to see you didn’t rip the aussie red to shreds! lol

QOTD: I make a point of not drinking in airports, only on planes. Had a great coke while being stuck for 4 hours one time though ; )

I couldnt wait to read the comments on this one, knowing most people would rip the fine DR. HAHAH LMAO at some of them.

QOTD: I have been on a plane 6 times in my life for a grand total of 2 round trips. So, no experiences in airports. Not too big on flying.

Some people have no self-awareness, anything around them goes to the background. You were very gracious.

QOTD: Had a pretty good Barolo at the President’s Club in Newark. It may have been good compared compared to what usually gets served in airports, or maybe it was anticipation. I was on my way to Rome. As they say, the emotional state your in affects your evaluation.

QOTD: One time, I believe it was actually in Denver, I had flown through so many time zones that I was out of whack. I live in Eastern time zone and I had just made a few trips from England back to Toronto, then to Denver within a week. It was 9 am and I was about to fly home and I sat in Tex-Mex restaurant in the upper floor and I ordered a beer and burrito. The waitress looked at me like I had two heads. But I was so zonked, that I didn’t realize that I had enjoyed happy hour at breakfast time until 2 days later.
