lines of the day – ‘this really does smell like a sheep pooped in your nose’ and ‘I feel like “my tummy’s burning” like Ralph on the Simpsons’

Another winner, GV really on point during these back-to-back taped episodes. Mott looking for the correct response at the end and floundering as usual

  • that spring break sisqo reference was out of control.

looking forward to seeing more zinfandel rec’s for turkey day even though the seghesio sounded pretty darn juicy and delicious.

qotd: small crowd this year consisting of my mom, myself, and a close family friend. but that allows for experimentation in the kitchen a la a smoked turkey breast with maple butter done outside on the grill.

I thought you would get back on the Argentinian horse . . .

QOTD: easy one. The family has been getting together at my brother’s house in north jersey for… for… well, FOREVER. We come from Philly, South Jersey and thereabouts, and it’s always a ton of people, ton of food, and always too many desserts. We also celebrate Dad’s birthday at this event, although his actual date is later in November. It’s his 86th this year. Although I’m not really a fan of fruit wine, I might bring a bottle of white cranberry wine that I tasted, enjoyed and bought at a big local wine tasting event this year. You know.. cranberries, Thanksgiving… fits.

  • Why couldn’t Zinfandel be thee California varietal? Haven’t seen it bottled anywhere else yet. Is it?
Seghesio is available here in Sweden. Good for me to try, right πŸ™‚

QOTD: Since we don’t celebrate Thansgiving I’m not going anywhere, but I’ll be bringing the wine, Finca El Puig Priorat 2003 this weekend

Have a good birthday , Saturday was it?

I think I’ll pick up a zinfandel. I’m going to my parents new lake house on Lake Travis in Austin, TX. Most of the extended family will be there too.

  • What you noticed about the last wine is what has kept me from buying Zin often, I do enjoy it sparsely though, I moved to Zinfandel from being tired of Cabernet Sauvignons and I found that there is so much going on in other varietals that I haven’t taken the time to really do a nerdy Zin tasting with 10 bottles side by side, which I probably should, I have heard so many people enjoying it that I feel left out somehow, if it makes sense.

QOTD: as you may not know Thanksgiving is not celebrated in my country (other than by the immigrant population and the American School Foundation) but we have a bottle of wine every week, and I’ll report which bottle we choose then.

    Cheers Gary, and Happy Birthday.

  • So excited about Thanksgiving but I’m not on the Zin bandwagon for pairing with the meal. With that said…

QOTD: I will be at the parents house for Thanksgiving and because they don’t drink and aren’t the biggest advocates for alcohol, I won’t be bringing anything out of respect.

I liked almost all the 07 Seghesio’s, I attened a tasting with the winemaker earlier this year. They all seemed to be a very good value. QOTD.. I’ll be at my in-laws, with their massive cellar! I however, will be in charge of bringing the turkey vino.

Turkey is only dry if it is over cooked.

The problem is that the breast is often overdone by the time the legs are cooked at the joints. You can either start cooking the bird upside down or remove the breast whilst its still juicy then put the rest back in the oven for the legs to cook.

In general i prefer goose at Christmas though. Here in the UK the goose was the festive bird before turkeys arrived from the States.

QOTD. nothing as we dont do that here. Though it sounds like a wonderful celebration and i would really like to get out there with some of my wonderful American friends at some point.

I will be tasting all of Seghesio’s wines at a tasting in a couple weeks. Should be awesome!

    cheers!

  • Who wouldn’t want a sheep pooping in their nose? Love that smell.

Thanksgiving with wife, parents, brother (lot of agitating going on at the table….At some point Mom will tell us to knock it off).

QOTD — going nowhere, the wine will be a local Nouveau (only because Thanksgiving is really a harvest festival) and a 1927 solera sherry

QOTD: Headed to my parents’ place in Indiana. It’s my wife’s and my 4th wedding anniversary that day, so we’re doing a special dinner the night before and driving down day-of. We’re the de-facto wine source for my family, so we’re bringing some Mauritson Rockpile Zins for the actual turkey. Beyond that, a hodge podge of wines for the remainder of the weekend. Pretty much sticking to Cali stuff, though. Those are crowd familiar favorites.

Best Zin I’ve had so far was the August Briggs 2007 Old Vines. Would love to see you taste a few of their wines on WLTV. Also really loved their Pinot Meunier, which you tend not to see very often as a stand-alone varietal (at least that’s my perception).

QOTD: Going home to central TX for Thanksgiving. We’ll definitely be popping a bottle of the Iron Horse Russian Cuvee sparkler (just as good as Veuve in my opinion, but $10-$15 cheaper in most places).

Thanks for the Zin episode. My absolute favorite wine. Especially love the fruit bombs with a little of the oak monster. Eating in the backyard of my brother-in-law for the umpteenth straight year. No complaints however as the weather here in SoCal is usually perfect for the occasion. In addition to the traditional Zins, I’m going to try a few dry Rose’s this year.
