For all his “trust your own ‘pal’ ” talk, GV cant stand it when someone else’s palate is different from his own.

Really fine show that had an easy to watch demeanor. It’s interesting to see such a contrast in opinion from two experienced tasters. When you are able, you should try the Leoville Barton 04 and check out W.A. and W.S. reviews, you’ll wonder if Parker tasted the same wine! I’m not crazy about most new world wines I try, either too much alc. or coconut vanilla flavors or not the same level of complexity, just more sweet than the wines you mentioned from France or Italy. Unfortunatly higher alc. levels and oak seem to be necessary to get noticed. Even so Napa is by far the appellation of choice for Bordeaux varietals. A spectacular cab that I’ve had a few times that would go head to head with anything in the world at the same price is the Joseph Phelps 05. I really don’t see the 06,07 Caymus as wines I would want drink at half price.

I left my comment earlier, but now I realize that this guest asked the question of the day with more responses than any I ever saw. Everyone has a response, some passionatly positive, some grudgingly negative, mostly due to the cost—– but almost none say they dont like the taste of Napa wines.

Regarding your question about what we think about Napa wines: I live in Woodinville Washington which is a wine valley and home of over 40 wineries including my favorites Silver Lake, Brian Carter Cellars and Adams Bench. To be honest, I have an aversion to even trying any Napa wines. I think because of the stigma from the older huge wineries that produced what I think of as high volume low quality wines.

Oh, and one more thing. I have had plenty of Napa wine. I think it is among the best wines in the world.
I like Willamette valley wines more though.
