I am very surprised that you did a head to head battle with different glasses. I, like you, have been shouting from the rooftops that glassware makes a difference for years. I hope you don’t record all of those shows like that…and if so, it will be interesting to see if one glass dominates. It certainly seems that wine #1 was in a Reidel Vinum white wine glass and that #2 was a standard Reidel overture logo glass.

Gary, you have been picking on Calfornian Sauvignon Blancs, the Sancerres did not convince on this episode, New Zealand has good wines, but most are overcropped and mass production wines. You have been mentioning some alternatives like Chile and South Africa. I’m still missing the Austrian Sauvignons from Styria though. They don’t produce much (and even less will make it to the US), but the quality can be fantastic and they deserve to appear on one of your episodes.

That’s too bad they are a pass,but they are often good.

Bummer, I usually love Sancerre, and find the NZ and Chilean versions of Sauv Blanc more suited to weeknight everyday wines.

Looking forward to the match-ups! This one starts with a tie, but in any case we still get to see the breakdown of the vino…that’s what matters. Seeing you light up for a quality wine is fun, but the facial expressions that accompany anomalies like these are way better.

As far as the price goes, my biz partner is living in Burgundy now and we’ve done some research and concluded that there is a 4X to 5X mark up here over the French domestic bottle price…factor that in, and maybe the pricing is accurate for an 85 point wine?

I love the blind shows. I’m looking forward to these two weeks on the show. Too bad the wines didn’t do it for you, but sometimes that happens. I’m interested to see how the viogniers go. I like that varietal, and would love to find a good QPR there.
