89/100

lines of the day – ‘Bunny Sniffs’ and ‘On the tart-o-meter this is off the charts’

Solid episode, GV helped out the guest a little more than he usually does…can’t blame him.

Never had mezcal… but not a big tequila fan, so maybe I should try mezcal and I might like it better. The smokiness definitely sounds intriguing.

I’d like to see some different NZ white varietals on the show sometime. Sav Blanc gets all the publicity, but when I was in Marlborough I was much more impressed with their chards, rieslings, and even gewurzes.

Good guest! Can’t wait to watch the CBS interview!

P.S.: What happened to the blind head-to-heads? Not saying this wasn’t a great show, but I want some more of those!

Isn’t tequila distilled differently? I’ve never had Mezcal, but I do like to sip some Corazon Blanco, or some Don Julio Blanco. Just a personal preference.

  • Not only do I remember Serena fondly from MTV News, I remember when they actually played … wait for it! music videos.

I’ve been drinking the same bottle of Cuervo Tradicional Reposado for ten years. I like it and all, but I’d rather have a nice glass of wine.

I’ll echo rambler289 above: it’s fun to see a guest who doesn’t defer to the host. This episode shows once again that sensory evaluation is, as much as anything, a matter of associations.

QOTD (1): If I remember Rick Bayless’s explanation correctly, mezcal is an agave-based distilled spirit from anywhere in Mexico; tequila is pretty much the same stuff, made pretty much the same way, but legally must come from a specific area around the town of Tequila.

QOTD (2): Don’t drink either?I can’t taste anything but alcohol in distilled spirits, which is kind of unpleasant.

Great show! I hate to start my week without CBS Sunday AM. I’ve been a fan for years. Serena’s been a celeb crush for a long time.

Wow, Serena your adorable and you like tequila, perfect.

I personalty love good tequila not so much with mezcal because it’s not as smooth and higher alcohol.I think they’re made different too. Anyway, Serena’s gorgeous and I didn’t even notice if there was wine on the show.

On the Semillon, I find that stinkified cheese nose on all SA wines I’ve encountered. From a pinot noir to a cabernet to a sparkling…all SA wines smell like Blue Cheese and have that as part of their taste profile to me. Anyone else find that over-arching characteristic with South African wines? Not a bad thing, but it is pervasive.

QOTD: Can’t really do much tequila. I like scotch if I’m doing a distilled spirit.

I prefer Tequila (lemon & lime squeezed fresh into glass) on the rocks with a teaspoon of agave syrup stirred in. Loved Serena. She is all that a guest on WLTV should be. Can’t wait to see her interview you – when is it??

qotd tequila is only made from the blue agave. prefer tequila, although neither hold a candle to wine for my tastes.

Serena seems to be a very nice sweet person. i remember when she did the news on mtv. but i really dont understand why you had her as a guest on your show Gary. outside of the fact that she’s interviewing you for cbs, i just didnt see the point.
Gary, any chance of seeing a vin jaune on the show?
