line of the day – ‘seemed a little conservative, then got a little freaky deaky’

GV was convinced that one of these wine was young, and one definitely a little older. They were both from 2004…proving that our leader is human after all.

  • QOTD: i’m massively in love with Barolo (and Barbaresco as well)… in fact they’re my latest two favorite wine regions after my wine travels throughout france, italy and hungary last year… i was fortunate enough to visit with Gaia Gaja, Bruna Giacosa and Roberto Voerzio and particularly the Giacosas and the Gajas absolutely blew me away… in addition to the fact that Bruna and Gaia were absolutely nice and welcoming as heck!… i particularly liked the 2006 Gaja ?Sorì Tildin? Langhe and the 2005 Azienda Agricola Falleto ?Le Rocche del Falleto?

QOTD: Haven’t had Barolo yet. The more I watch this show the more I realize I need to start drinking it more.

  • Short, sweet, succinct! For a Tuesday, perfect review on some spectacular wines.

QOTD: My experience has been hit or miss unfortunately. When it’s good, it’s real good but “inconsistency” has been my experience. I always seem to go back to the Marchesi de Barolos which always seem to satisfy me.

    Cheers!

P.S. HOW BOUT DEM COLTS!!!!! We broke the Pats consecutive wins record. Will I be meeting you for a show from Lucas Oil? 😉

I have massive love for nebbiolo. Coming into the wine world just three years ago – through a barbaresco – I allocate a few purchases every year to barolo. Alas, the price point, the agiability…they are laid down.

QOTD: Last one I had was at Newark airport (airline club) during my layover en route to Italy. Barolo by the glass! Not spectaular, but very nice.

Teobaldo Cappellano Barolo ?Gabutti Pie Rupestris” 2000, at Frasca in Boulder, CO. Stunning, thats what I think of Nebbiolo. And Barolo are wines beyond explanation.

I used to work for a guy who would often take me to the little Italian restaurant around the corner from the office and order two or three bottles of barolo to accompany our working lunch. Great days… if rather foggy afternoons and slightly hung-over evenings. I love barolo and have stocked up with as much 04 as I was able to which was kinda tough as it may offer value to the high roller but not the average soak like me.

  • I’ve only had lower price point Barolo, and generally was ‘meh’. I do, however, have Nebbiolo in the lineup for our blind tasting group in March. I’ll happily be exposed to some nicer bottles then. I hope.
