French wines overpriced? No big surprise but funny to see GV hammering two disappointing efforts from Bordeaux

I love these blind and head to head shows. Great.

QOTD — tough question, but what comes to mind is a library release of the 1981 Château La Cabanne — for me an 84 pt ‘eh’wine

  • QOTD: 2003 Chateau Lagrange. Way don’t see what the hype’s about, and now it’s double the price.

I for one, will stand up for the cabs and merlots. The only aspect I have a beef with is the scarcity of good value relative to other varietals on the higher end stuff.

I loved this particular show because it justified how I generally feel about a lot of Bordeaux. I have FAR more often been disappointed with red Bordeaux than not. BY FAR. It’s the most overrated region (with overblown prices) on the planet in my opinion. Just go a little north to Chinon where I’m almost ALWAYS be thrilled with the reds that are rediculously good for much, much less money. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had profound, wonderful, complex red Bordeaux before, but I think they’re relatively few and far between.
