QOTD. I had several disappointing wines but forgot the names because I just want to remember the great, smashing wines from Bordeaux.

QOTD I tasted the Cheval Blanc 99 at a wine tasting in London. It was pretty meh. Nice enjoyable claret but in no way a great wine.

Had the Le Thil Comte Clare Blanc before. That was pretty rubbish as well!

    A poorly stored 1982 Mouton.

Second wine of Clinet? You gotta be kiddin’ Gary. Clinet is in Pomerol ( as well as Le Gay ) not in Pessac!
Ronan will not be happy about this;)

Guess this goes to show that not everyone (including the professionals) could make a great wine in Bordeaux in 2005.

QOTD: Do not remember the name but I had an ’05 Bordeaux from a satellite area that was horrible. Tasted as if they had fermented the stems and left out the fruit. Very green and unripe.

Biggest disappointment was standing with my wife on our honeymoon, right outside the gates of Clos Fourtet (in 07) on the phone with them to get in for their tasting but they had no room. I really pleaded to no avail. Then the absurd price on the ’05 when I came back home to LA. Still haven’t tried that wine. 🙁

For 2 days straight now I’ve had to read every single comment to try and find out what “KaD” means. The real Vayner Nation is keeping a tight leash on this one indeed. Now I’m just obsessed. I’m bummed because I spent $50 on 3 bottles of Le Thil 08 futures earlier this year. Hope it’s better than the 05.

QOTD: Just got into Bordeaux this past year and haven’t been really disappointed. All the big guns are in the cellar.

    Hi Gary

I’ve got my first job in the wine trade starting in January, I really wanted to thank you because you’re passion is contagious! Haven’t had too many dissapointments with Bordeaux but I haven’t put any on a pedestal before i’ve tried them either.

    Cheers,

    Mike

  • Gary- you cant let the throwdown hoedown end like that! Lackluster wines are no way to end such an epic blind tast-a-thon. We want more!

QOTD: I was in France a few months ago and tried to find a decent bordeaux, but for the life of me I couldent! I must have been looking in the wrong place or still in shock from our Champs-Élysées spree we went on the day before. Was massivly dissapointed with the wine, but was not interested in giving my right testical for a good bottle of Vino.
