Hi GV!! Welcome back!! We missed a lot your wine insights this 5 years. Being an original Vayniac, and thru all this years asking for you to come back, its very nice to see everything changed for the best. Hope the family is very well, Sasha, AJ, Lizzie and Misha (a little baby when you stopped WLTV)! I myself, have a lovely couple babies at home, 30 month old boy and 8 month old girl. Hope WLTV is back to stay!! QOTD: 2012 Quinta Maria Izabel tinto, Douro. Great wine!

    – Absolutely 100% blind! Double… no, make that TRIPLE BLIND TASTINGS!

    – Absolutely have guests! Your goal for WLTV is to open up the wine world to ‘everyone’ and you have done a fantastic job in doing so. Having you as a trusted guide and offering your expertise is a HUGE blessing for us! Having guests – both professional and non-professional only adds to the experience from which we can learn.

    – Please get geek-ier too! Personally, I would love to see, when possible, you taste each wine straight from the bottle and decanted. I’m getting geeky enough now to question if a wine should or should not be decanted. Both young and aged wine. Is there a way to tell at first taste from the bottle if a wine would benefit from decanting?

I guess the end of the decade is as good as a time as any to really thank you Gary for inspiring me to seriously consider a career in wine!

Happy Holidays to you, Lizzie, baby Sasha and everyone else at the Wine Library!

    nice job Gary; much love.

the more knowledge based shows the better; maybe mix a ‘region’ show with the blinded tastings….or combine them!

    happy holidays!

  • Gary – I like that you mix it up between Double Blinds, Random Tastings, and even the guests. I can not say I have been watching for years, but I have watched this past year and truly enjoyed it.

    Great episode as always Gary!
I love the “old school” shows, also blind tasting is great!
Nerdy shows rock! It is also always fun to watch you do value shows.
    Happy holidays to everyone!

Happy Holidays Gary, Mott and the Wine Library family,

I gotta admit I’m not a football fan, but I’ll put up with it to learn about the wine ; ) Please just keep doing things that inspire you, because that way we can share in your passion. Blind tastings, nerdy “science” shows, more commando raids on Wine Bars (as long as you have lapel mics for everyone with you) and perhaps a few more travel shows (Anderson Valley & Finger Lakes anyone?) would be great. Hmmm, have you ever considered having a Vayniac “Convention” or perhaps another series of “Grand Tastings” around the country so the rest of us relative newbies can taste along? I’ve seen a few in the archives, but I wanna play too! BTW, did the Part 2 of the Champagne Decanting episode with nerdy MW gal ever get taped/released? I missed hearing the results and I’m really interested in the differences.
Thanks again for all that you do. Here’s to an AWESOME 2010!

QOTD: An increase of blind tastings for 2010 would be great. Same varietals but at different price points is always a nice comparison.

Doing more blind would definitely be cool. Pumped for more old school episodes!

Good show Gary, basic and real. Old school feel.

QOTD: More of that! Seriously, nice to hear you (and Mott) just talk about what you?re drinking and what you like to talk about. Good stuff. Thanks and Happy Holidays.”

    Agree.

GV, a couple of other thoughts for WL2010….vertical tastings and how about picking some of the WS top 100 and doing your own tasting.

    Good episode, good information.

QOTD – I personally think you have a good mix. Continue bringing us good guests that will educate us regarding the history and culture of wine.

I love the blind tastings and the simple head to head comparison’s.

One thing I would suggest for those like me that are still learning the basics would be to provide structured examples for the major varietals. In that way I can build a better appreciation of what a Cabernet Sauvignon vs a Merlot vs. a Zinfendel etc, etc, etc.

Have a Merry Christmas and hope your child’s first is one of the best ever.

GV – Great content for almost 800 shows – thanks so much – look forward to the next 800?

I like the blind, I would love some shows with 3-4 double blinds. I do like guests, but look forward to some old school shows. Some guests recently have been meh, but Jeffrey Davies, Nicholas Joly, Heidi Barrett – those were awesome. I would also like to say, that if you decide to go blind all year, I think by the 7th show, that will go out the window!!! Would also love to get the comments back into the show…

Again, thanks for the dedication – I appreciate it!

    Cheers!

(PS, thanks to Mott, and all the Wine Library folks too!)

  • Gary, thanks for another great year with WLTV !!!

QOTD: Keep it simple. Most important; keep on bringing wines from all over the world,…..love the way you’ve introduced us to wines from like Portugal (used to pretty dull and one-dimensional). Please do not all together stop having guests and do the occasionally show on location. It’s a real treat when you get into the details, love and passion people around the world put into producing wine….that’s truly what makes it such a special thing.

Keep up the good spirit, looking forward to a fantastic 2010 !

    Thanks and Merry Christmas.

The best episode besides the cereal episode. It was a joy to watch with it being so happy and full of the love. I am super excited for the holiday pack. It should start a new family christmas wine tradition with my dad and I.

Suggestion for 2010 WLTV: a field of 64 march madness blind tasting tourney. If 2010 is going to be an epic year for wine in this country. We need some epic march wine madness.

Best to yours this holiday season,

Not a big fan of the blind tastings but I know they are popular.
I love when you have wine geeks as guests. And your dad.
The big time Somms are also fun.
Don’t do anything all or nothing. Keep up the mix. You are the Wine DJ
