Hi GV!! Welcome back!! We missed a lot your wine insights this 5 years. Being an original Vayniac, and thru all this years asking for you to come back, its very nice to see everything changed for the best. Hope the family is very well, Sasha, AJ, Lizzie and Misha (a little baby when you stopped WLTV)! I myself, have a lovely couple babies at home, 30 month old boy and 8 month old girl. Hope WLTV is back to stay!! QOTD: 2012 Quinta Maria Izabel tinto, Douro. Great wine!

QOTD: I liked all your comments for show ideas for the coming year. Less guests, more blind tastings, etc. More old school and nerding it up stuff. The one thing I would add though is, as you know, there are a lot of people struggling now. It’s hard for many of us to spend $30, $40, $50 and up on a single bottle of wine right now. I watched the Paris show and we’d fall into the category of drinking wine 3-4 days per week. Our price point is $10 – $15 with maybe a bottle per week that’s between $15 and $20. Your Wine Club B is our single monthly foray into wines that exceed that price point. But wines like the Tramin Pinot Bianco you recommended are stellar and easily affordable. I’d really like it if you could have a weekly “value wine” pick…or maybe one show per week or so where you reviewed only widely available wines that were under 20 bones.

Gary – Great show – good job not reviewing your own wine. I’ve watched off and on for about 2 years, last 2 months have been very regular. Just made first order from the website – most looking forward to trying the Chilean riesling.

Mott – always a very nice addition to the show – kudos on getting your own glass – no one wants to be sick for the holidays!

Ordered 2 bottles of the champagne – can’t wait to try them also. My last GOOD bottle was Dom P when I got married – almost 20 years ago.

Blind tastings – really enjoyed them. I wouldn’t do them every day. One day a week would be really good to mix things up though.

No more lurking! Great job and Happy Holidays to all!

    Great episode.

QOTD: Ok, this is going to be long, but I hope you read the whole thing, Gary. Watching this show for over 2 years, there’s one obvious component that makes a good show into a great show: energy. You’ve got a ton of energy, and it’s exploded in so many creative ways on this show. This episode, for example, you brought restrained excitement, and it made a great episode. I’m glad to hear that you’re thinking hard about the coming year. I too would like to see a return to the basics that made this show so phenomenal. I don’t think a blind tasting for every episode is what we’ve come to expect from this show. We like being surprised as much by the content and the theme as by the tasting results, and at this point the scoring is almost moot. What makes this show so awesome are things like tasting in a blizzard, showing us the vineyards in Spain, bringing fantastic people like Wayne Gretzsky and your father on, and having a shitload of fun. Those are the basics you need to bring back. Because if you’re not having fun, we’re not having fun, and then there’s no point. So bring back the explore-your-palate episodes, and tasting with unique gourmet foods, and bring back totally-unexpected-out-of-the-box-craziness. Those episodes where you start off doing one thing and end up doing something completely crazy (like Ep. 757’s sabre display) are the true gems of this show, and the reason I keep watching.

Happy holidays Vayniacs, and see you in 2010!!!

QOTD Gary I watched your show and heard your suggestions, I say why mess with success. I enjoy your guests some are extremely and bring a different presence to the house.
I can see why those looking for great values want more shows that cater to them, and that too is fine. I have a saying that I borrow from time to time : “Life is too short to drink cheap wine”, so I hope you continue to review the likes of Caymus, Conn Valley, Chappellet, Cheateau De Pape and Chiante and the like. We have tastes too.
I look forward to your reviews.
I want to wish all your viewers a very HAPPY , HEALTHY HOLIDAY SEASON
    AS TO YOUR J E T S ……maybe next year…….MAYBE NOT.

Gary, first off, thank you for doing what you do. The show is awesome and I feel like you are “the people’s wine expert.” I really liked the blind episodes becuase they cut through anything that might bias your opinion and get just to the wine, but realistically I think your show has much more to offer than an entire year of that. I like some of the guest episodes but I agree that you could probably do without a lot of them. I though the Gundlach Bundschu and the Dr. Vino episodes were the best guest shows of late. Both of them were interesting to hear from because of their positions in the wine world but some of the other guests you’ve had didn’t really add anything. I’m also excited that you plan on expanding more into Cork’d, it’s a great site with awesome potential so I’m definately looking forward to that. Overall, no matter what you do WLTV will remain the greatest show on earth. Keep it up.
PS: Let’s see more of Mott in the new year.
    Happy Holidays!!

  • QOTD: I like a solid mix of educational shows, where u really educate/nerd it up on your own and then have guest that are in the industry.

    Thanks for the show Gary!

I love the blind tastings! More are always appreciated, but probably not every day. I love less guests generally as well!

    Thanks again!

Love it when the Mottster appears! I like the head-to-head (or maybe threeway…) blind episodes, though I don’t think it’d be good to do an entire year out of them…pepper in some guest and road shows here and there for a little variety, and voila…2010. Cheers to you fellas. You do great work.

  • Hey GV, I only started watching a few months ago but I’ve been hooked ever since. Not just hooked on the show but really getting into different wines and trying new things (e.g. champagne!). Love the innovation and the way you bring wine tasting to the people so that we can appreciate it as well as the bourgeoisie.

I like your ideas for next year, less guests and more ‘back to the roots’ shows with just you and the wine. That’s when I think you give the greatest value. It certainly doesn’t have to be a fancy format in order to make a great show. Not sure about the 100% blind tasting idea but I think integrating them more into 2010 would definitely be a winner.

Keep up the fantastic work and all the best for the new year.

QOTD: Funny….WLTV and Focus don’t belong in the same sentence. Don’t promise any specifics just keep bringing the Thunder in any way shape or form.

You said you had a cold and I thought at least he didn’t give a glass to Mott. I was wrong. Two seconds later you offer a glass to Mott. A little cold is the same as a big cold. It’s all contagious. Don’t sneeze on little Mish.

QOTD: For 2010, here’s an idea. Listen closely. I want to see you make one promise. One commitment. I don’t care if it’s laid back Friday’s, announcing the Friday wines on Monday, or promising to use the big ass glass once a month. Whatever. I just want you to make one promise and follow through for the whole year. That’s my Christmas wish.

  • Gary, I would LOVE to see you go full blind in 2010! I know it’ll be a pain and you probably can’t do it every single time, but man I love those blind shows more than any others, including guests and secret packs. Great to see expectations blown away, that’s what the show is all about!

  • Yes! Less guests pleased. I took an extended break from winelibrary tv because there were too many guests and not enough of the wine nerdiness that brought me to the show. I say less guests, more nerdiness and crush it in 2010!

Thanks for all you did this year. Sorry that our Falcons beat the Jets and your curse while in Atlanta did not work. But I now know that the Jets beat the Colts and can make the playoffs. So cheer up! Congrats on the Vayniak wine. I would enjoy more educational shows in 2010. I try to expand my wine knowledge by watching the shows. Blind tastings are fun, but not needed every time. Thanks again.

  • hey, long time lurker out of the shadows. I wanted to say that I really like the idea of you getting back to basics, and all that. But what i really liked was getting to see Mott (sp?) I love watching your show Gary, and it’s great when it’s just you, I’ve liked some of your guests in the past and not liked others, but I wonder how your show would go if you had a consistent side kick for a while, a guy to talk with and bounce ideas off of that was comfortable with you and also passionate about wine. I liked seeing Mott hang with you this episode cause the communication between you made me get a better sense of the wine and a better sense of you Gary, and as much as I like learning about the wine, I like even more learning about you cause you’re just complicated, like a good wine, or a good story.
