Hi GV!! Welcome back!! We missed a lot your wine insights this 5 years. Being an original Vayniac, and thru all this years asking for you to come back, its very nice to see everything changed for the best. Hope the family is very well, Sasha, AJ, Lizzie and Misha (a little baby when you stopped WLTV)! I myself, have a lovely couple babies at home, 30 month old boy and 8 month old girl. Hope WLTV is back to stay!! QOTD: 2012 Quinta Maria Izabel tinto, Douro. Great wine!

I would like to hear from the winemakers themselves and what they are thinking when crafting their wines and or blending. Do they target a certain market or are they true to a style.

While each of the wines were well over my self-imposed price point, I did again, enjoy your presentation and evaluation. I know it’s my loss not to partake, but I will be satisfied watching you being satisfied.
QOTD? I’m coming up empty pockets.
I enjoy the current mix you now have…..
the blind tastings, guests- (serious wine drinkers or not), the shots from your hotel room, the local bar, etc. It’s all good stuff, to which, I could only ask for more.

Gary, at least you’re not a Chiefs fan! You want to talk about depressing..ugh! In 2010 I would like to see more domestic wine tasted. From Cabs to Sparklers. I’m struggling to find one show on domestic sparkling wine, I think that’s a travesty. Thank you for all you do and Happy Holidays.

  • Yes more blind tasting would be fun, but not a whole year’s worth. At least once a week, and double/triple-blind (don’t know the varital, vintage, or country) would be fun as well.

Thanks Mott for getting in front of the camera again.

QOTD: Keep the basics going, and the wine-nerd education. Keep the shows tight because time is becoming more valuable (example no time at all to watch 50-60 min of Paris tastings this week), keep them fun, and do have guests that can add vaule–NO POSERS!

    Happy Holidays!

Thanks for the wedding love…Sue loved seeing that today, as will her parents later on today.

    Have a great holiday.

Happy holidays to you guys as well!
I need to get a Vayniac Cab or 2- congratulations on its release.
I agree with Kirk, all double blind limits the amount of wine knowledge you drop but they are a great change of pace and very enjoyable to see. Just keep doing what you are doing and we will watch!

Always a pleasure when Mott makes the appearance on the wine show… goo job to both of you. Thanx for all the good shows in 2009 – see you in 2010.

  • I have to 2nd the “at least you’re not a Chiefs fan” comment….2010, a couple more vineyard/winery visits. I enjoy the winemaker point of view as well as the vintner’s idea of growing a quality juice. I know the “other 46” ep was kind of a train wreck, but keep after it…there is quality wine being made from other states that need some love too.

    Love the Mott guest shot.
Love the blind tastings, but don’t want a full year of them. I like the old school stuff, but do like drop-ins from the WL staff.

  • Gary,

I was born in Chicago and raised in the burbs there. What can I say….

    Go Bears!!! 🙂

Have a wonderful holiday season. I promise I will drink some wine with loved ones.

    Your Pirate Lifestyle friend,

I think the old school format would be cool, all about the wine.

You know if you said you were doing something all the time it would only last a little while anyway.Just saying we know how it goes.

See you in SC, awesome can’t wait!

QOTD – been awhile since i posted for a qotd. I think the direction you hit on in the episode is right on, BACK TO BASICS. I really miss the old school days were it was just you, a few wines and your opinion. As for going fully blind, the blind episodes are always my favorites but a full year may be too much. At the same time, however, I think there should be more blind episodes, like maybe 1-2 a week. Just my 2 cents, HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!

  • And an “old school, nerdy” Happy Holidays to the both of you. I am so thankful to have spent my evenings of the last four years experiencing new wines, expanding my palate and watching your family; both financially and literally, grow leaps and bounds. I thank you for all you have given the Vayner Nation.

Now on to the show. 80 bones for the fizzy! I thought about pulling the trigger on that one but 80 bones! Yikes!

With regards to the Vayniac cab. I’m hoping you can get me some in two days so I can take it to my son’s house (A dirty Fins fan) and have a glass with him.

2010? I predict a most magnificent year. Blind is a fantastic idea! Yes! It’s almost the same as tasting along with you with a Secret Pak. Involving more of corkd.com works for me. I like that site. But my only addition to 2010 would be a monthly “Review by Request” where you choose someone from the many posts to submit two wines for you to review. Of course, they have to be available at WL.

Again, great show and thank you.

    Cheers!

P.S. If your boys don’t stop us next weekend, it surely won’t be da Bills! 16-0!!!!!

  • More appearances from your dad, mott and sasha would be cool

    Gary,

Today my friend you brought the thunder. This was hands down the most personal down to earth episode you have ever delivered to the Vaynernation. I know today was difficult being a football fan myself. I’m from Ohio and the Bengals are my team. Tough week.

Todays show was different. It was almost like you were sitting in everyones kitchen shooting the breeze and enjoying some grapes across a table from each of us. Nice to see Mot again as well.

Happy Holidays to you and everyone that makes America’s favorite wine store what it is.

QOTD: The side by side blind tastings or anything blind is always a hit. Kind of like the Mystery packs. Everyone likes the unknown.

  • Kelly

A friend of mine (Robin Christenson) introduced me to your show and I love it! My only problem is UTAH! How can I get a bottle (or two) of the Vayniac? Or do I just need to make a trip to Napa? Hmmmmmmm. Thanks for the great episodes. I am learning a ton watching your shows. Thanks!
    Kelly V.

  • Hey Gary

Great show, fantastic to see the Cab is finally in out and about (though I doubt I’ll be trying any in Hong Kong). Like the idea of less guests (some are fantastic, many are a waste of space) and more old school tastings. Blind is good, but you don’t have to do it everytime.

    Cheers
    Andrew

Hey GV, not been on the comments for a while, but have been following. You have been ripping it with the short and to the point shows, I love them. I don’t think you should go blind the whole year. One of the most attractive parts of your show is that you recommend wines that bring the thunder, and they are conscious choices of yours. I think going blind will loose that aspect. All the best from the biggest fan in England, I was gutted I could not come and see you in London.

2010: More old=school shows. Less guests, more thunder, more nerd wine talk, more big blind tastings (5-6 wines), maybe a return to the other desk…

  • Definitely keep the variety going…guests, you at the WL, you out in the trenches, etc. I definitely think a field trip to CA wine country, Washington, or Oregon would be interesting. Seeing more NY (or Chicago!!) wine bars would be fun. More winemakers and wine nerds as guests. You can probably skip the pop culture peeps that are totally clueless about wine. Double blinds are definitely cool, but so are wines that you know the background on and can offer some fun facts for us.

  • Green Pea

Hey a quick suggestion. A perfect end of the year QOTD to the Vaynernation would be: What was your favorite episode of the year or just what was your favorite episode to date. I know mine.
