Hi GV!! Welcome back!! We missed a lot your wine insights this 5 years. Being an original Vayniac, and thru all this years asking for you to come back, its very nice to see everything changed for the best. Hope the family is very well, Sasha, AJ, Lizzie and Misha (a little baby when you stopped WLTV)! I myself, have a lovely couple babies at home, 30 month old boy and 8 month old girl. Hope WLTV is back to stay!! QOTD: 2012 Quinta Maria Izabel tinto, Douro. Great wine!

  • That was a nice relaxed episode. I’m bringing the Vayniac Cab to my bro-in-laws for X-mas dinner. Nice label BTW. You should have given a shout out to everyone who had a hand in making that wine possible.

QOTD: In 2010 I’d like to see you focus on keeping it old school like you said, plus some shows from different locations within Wine Library. Just one “outside” show request, “Train Your Palette from JETS Training Camp”! A little tailgate action in the parking lot with some JETS inspired wines?

  • wooden palate

    Happy holidays to all.

QOTD: Double-blind maybe four or five times a month would be plenty. More wine-education shows would be nice, ’cause I desperately need that. More value-for-money wines would be nice, too. In the end, though, we watch WLTV because we’re not sure what’s going to happen, so make yourself happy and we’ll follow along?probably moaning and complaining every step of the way, but we’ll follow.

Oh, and more Mott would be really cool.

    GV,

Love the show, enjoyed today you having Mott sit with ya for this celebratory show. I’ve been watching since I found you on Hulu a few weeks after my first taste of wine (May 09). I know it won’t fly, but since you’ve been really promoting hard NZ Whites, Australian Wines, Argentinian, and Portuguese how about you going back to basics in how you discussed now and again on shows I’ve found in your archive… Hitting up the “Other 46” as you put it.

This newbie can’t handle Oaked wines nor super fruit bombs both of which give me the Lifebouy soap face from “Christmas Story” and make buying wine from the supermarket nigh impossible. So devote this year to helping the “little guys” out as generally the small boutique vineyards are the ones I’ve enjoyed so far.. So have ’10 be a ’46-er year.

First of all Mott rules! Great episode. Happy Holidays to you!

QOTD: I’m really interested in hearing about “delicious & affordable” wines like the 2005 Domaine de l’Hortus Coteaux du Languedoc Pic St. Loup Grande Cuvée. I ended up with half a case of it and my friends and family LOVE it.

Thanks for all you do. Can’t wait to see you at SXSW again.

Is that Crushit brand tissues on the desk ? I guess if it’s just a couple of boogers and not a lot of runny snot, it would be ok to crush it.

The blind tastings show your integrity and are my favorite shows. Every time you give a low rating to an expensive wine, it lends credibility to your message.

Any show with Mott is automatically better…

QOTD: Keep the double-blinds going, mix in some 1 bottle shows, then a few showdowns, sprinkled with a few guest shows, and you’re in for a great year folks!!!

Your book has inspired me to get after it! It makes you WANT IT ALL NOW but I know i have to take it one step at time.

    Wonderful reflective episode, Gary!
Love the prospect of more double blinds in 2010, though I think that in order to keep up the excitement for them, 100% double blind would make them seem banal and not unique anymore like they are now. So more double blinds, possibly w/ 2 blind, 1 not like you mentioned would be great!

Also, I–and hopefully many others–would love to see more wines under $20, even under $15, for us student Vayniacs who can’t (yet!) afford wines in the $30, $40+ price range.

Thanks and best of luck! Happy Holidays!

Yes BLINDS are great, especially when the $20 beats the $40
Occasionally can you do some high dollar tastings etc. Throwdown
Brunello vs Borolo, etc. More German Rieslings !!!

QOTD: How about looking towards obtaining one of those bankrupted wineries that is popping in california, australia, and new zealand? It’s not an investment to laugh at but it is really something that could potentially make for a wonderful vaniac winery.

This is something that would be very exciting: village wines or wines that are local only? There is a whole world that is kept clandestine from the rest of the world with those locally made wines that do not ship out. That having been said, you could potentially become a distributor to break new grounds with just the local wines and shipping them out.

I like the idea of more shows in the WLTV studio, but would vote against being too stagnant by simply doing a ton of blind tasting episodes (though they are great).

I would like to see WLTV be a little more organized in its approach. Instead of rotating varietals and countries every day, it would be nice to focus on some theme for a week or so. Often I forget information episode to episode and it would make it easier to remember new wines / regions if there were a week’s worth of episodes that reinforced a theme.

Ideas for themes could be wide-ranging and might cover: Impact of soil types on flavor (Napa, Bordeaux, Tuscany, etc.), Organic versus Non-organic from a specific appellation, basic principles (or myths) of pairing wine and food, different ways technology is changing the wine business.

These are just suggestions, I really enjoy the show and appreciate your commitment. Looking forward to 2010.

Mott, way to make a guest appearance & congrats on your Giants crushing it tonight!

My only big request for 2010 is BRING BACK LAID-BACK FRIDAYS!!!!!! I think the couch was only seen 3-4 times this year, it must be suffering!

I like about everything else, to be honest. My preferance with guests is that they are serious (i.e. no more College humor)- I would even prefer winemakers or critics like Jancis than average wine-drinking guests like the NYC week shows.

Other than that I like about everything- quick, to the point shows have their place, but I also like the occasional long nerd-it-up show. I like the traditional ‘studio’ but the occasional wine list/hotel review is good too. Blind tastings are great, but I would make it at most 50/50. So glad to hear you’re still enthused/committed to WLTV with everything else you have going on in your life!

Oh yeah- something else that would be new & nice- I’ve requested it before & it’s not been done yet to my knowledge: a show on wines from grapes native to American such as catawba, Niagara, Delaware, etc. I could even supply the wines- there is no shortage of them here in Ohio!

    QOTD: For 2010…
More Vaynerchuk Sr., more winemakers, more blind tastings, more master of wine / sommeliers, laid back Friday’s.
Less bad audio episodes, random guests.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Congrats on the Cab Gary! Sorry about the Jets, but next week I’ll actually be rooting with you. We Pats fans hate no team more than Indy. As for doing the whole year blind. You’ll grow tired of it. The whole year? Maybe do it for a month straight sometime in the first half of 2010 and once again for a month in the second half?

QOTD: I’m all about learning. The education you provide is the reason I watch. tho you’re pretty likable too 😉 But yeah, background, info on the regions, varietals, everything. Learn me good Prof. V.

    Hey Gary,

This was a nice, laid-back show and Mott really seemed very comfortable in front of the camera. Keep mixing things up because the variety and unpredictability of the show is part of its attraction. Maybe get Robert Parker Jr. on as a guest, now that you guys have hung out together!

There are some awesome Pinots from Oregon that you have not had on the show, like Ken Wright Cellars and Shea Wine Cellars – there must be hundreds. That could make a great episode, or maybe a blind tasting of Pinot Noir.

Also, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is awesome wine. I would like to hear about some of this juice with outstanding QPR.

I wish you, your family, and all the Vayniacs a happy holiday season and a fantastic, prosperous, and healthy New Year in 2010!

    Great show GV & Mott!

I really dig these shows where you give us a bubbly that is NOT a ‘big name’ in the states. I remember the bubbly you tasted w/ Jeffrey Davies. Very nice.

You certainly wouldn’t get any complaints from me if you went old school in 2010. I much prefer that style.

Blind & double-blind are always favorites.

As for guests (and this is only my personal opinion), I’m not a big fan, unless they’re the heavy hitters like Jorge Ordonez, Jeffrey Davies, Jancis Robinson, etc. and passionate owners/wine-makers who bring A LOT to the table. I enjoy hearing what these folks have to say, and I learn a lot in the process.

I’d also be interested in hearing your thoughts on some of the major regions in Spain, France, Italy, and America regarding vintage quality, QPR, futures, etc. and where the wines/producers are going? Older vs. newer vintages in the QPR realm and stylistic changes. And, what are some of the big issues going on in the wine world? I read your comments on 2009 Bordeaux on Decanter.com with interest.

As always, thanks for pumping out the great content and keeping it real.

Have a joyful Holiday Season with your family!

So sorry about the Jets… I only saw the highlights of Sunday’s disaster, but it looked excruciating.

I love the blind tastings, but every day would be a little much. Then they wouldn’t be special any more. I’m all for doing them more often though.

I’d definitely like to see a few more “wine education” shows, like you did often in the first 100 episodes. That type of content, with the energy that you bring the the show nowadays, would be killer.

And, I’m always down for variety, and you keeping us on our toes. I like never knowing what to expect, and trying to guess what show you’ll do next. I like the idea of doing more focused shows from WLTV headquarters, but don’t completely eliminate guests or spontaneous locations.

I’m excited for 2010. Will this be the year of the 1000th episode?
