Hi GV!! Welcome back!! We missed a lot your wine insights this 5 years. Being an original Vayniac, and thru all this years asking for you to come back, its very nice to see everything changed for the best. Hope the family is very well, Sasha, AJ, Lizzie and Misha (a little baby when you stopped WLTV)! I myself, have a lovely couple babies at home, 30 month old boy and 8 month old girl. Hope WLTV is back to stay!! QOTD: 2012 Quinta Maria Izabel tinto, Douro. Great wine!

Hey Gary and Mott, happy Christmas guys!!!
Just sittin’ here with a Picard Du Pape winding the year down.
Gary if you do even the first 100 episodes blind I will name my first child Jet.
I heard you mention Dolcetto. Throw in some American ones as well. Pietra Santa has one that you will probably hate. I gave the 2004 an 86.
    Stay healthy,

  • I would love to see a blind tasting of excellent california pinot noir against petite sirah, and to see Gary differentiate the two but figure out how to rate such distinct wines. We know that the food pairings are different, but how to rate in the abstract. Is a fantastic pinot noir higher rated than a fantastic petite sirah? I would be fascinated by the analysis.

    Happy holidays!

Definitely have more Mott in 2010. Double blinds are great but make it every third show or so. Even better, get a winemaker or critic in there with you and go mano a mano for a blind tasting.

I really appreciate the guests that let loose with their thoughts and observations. If you have to tease little bits of information out of the guest then it gets painful for all involved.

Try another high end Malbec episode…Catena Zapata and grab another bottle if it is corked! I agree with the idea of focusing on a region or grape for a week. You could throw in double blinds, a related guest, etc. Vertical tastings?

Finally, don’t forget draft predictions on the laid back couch.

Great to see the Vayniac Cab tasted!! I have my bottles here, and after helping sort the fruit at Crushpad from Carrefour Vineyard, I want to pop them but will wait a while. GREAT to see Mott share some juice in the Vayner saddle as well…

QOTD: Blind tasting every episode will definitely be a HUGE commitment, and although I have much confidence in the G man, I don’t think that this is feasible for a whole year… nor would it be continually exciting. I think there should be an increase in blind tasting episodes, and an increase in blind head-to-heads, as well as more nerdy varietal/appellation episodes. Having guests is always a good thing, but perhaps limit the longer two-parters for those guests who are in the wine business in some capacity. Scotch, Wiskey, and craft beer episodes are always appreciated to mix things up… and you have quite a few NFL stadiums to conquer, my friend!!
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year, my friend! I wish you and your family the best, always.

  • QOTD: 2010 winelibrary tv? Hmm.
Do not comit to things that surely would fail, for instance blind every episode, no guests ect.

Instead do a wine fact based year. Example. Every tasting could be of one grape, using 1-4 wines. Have a guest once a week, no more no less. Make it female winemakers or your everyday wine blogger? Have a competion every month.
If integrating Cork’d make it with reviews. Keep int fairly short , but to tape the show anywhere depending where life drags you :). Mix it up once in a while with other beverages. I’d like to see more dessert wine.

QOTD: I’d love to hear more about the background behind th statement often made: ‘this is a good effort’ or ‘this is a poor effort.’ By which I mean: what did they specifically do or not do, or what did the weather do or not do to make an effort poor or good. In essence: what is the ‘effort,’ specifically?

  • First HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
QOTD: I would really love to see you try more wine from smaller wine countries (Israel, Lebanon, Turkey, etc.)

Everyone gets to try FrenchItalianUS wines, since they are available everywhere.
But rarely do people get to see and try wines from smaller countries.

Some of the smaller countries produce some really nice wines that are worth noticing.
If you can show the Vayniac nation something different, something there not going to get to without specifically trying ? you will change the wine world!!!

  • Hope you have a great festive season with your family.

QOTD: I would like to see some of the better McLaren Vale wines – we can make more than the single dimension shiraz here. Maybe showing what else we can make may help the lcoal industry that is struggling with the wine public perception. I would also loke to see a mixture of things – not just blind tastings all year. Do some of everything – maybe a theme for the month. I would also love the idea of getting wine bloggers involved more (as I am one of these). This would be a way of giving even more back (I know you do alot already).

    Hope these suggestions help.

Remember – to all the Wine Library TV people, please stay safe over the holidays. Your family – both biological and us Vaniacs need you all.

I would also like to see the evolution of a wine eg. following it over a 2-3 day span, if you can fit the day 2/3 into the regular daily viewing.

Happy Holidays to you guys too! On the format front, I think you’re instincts are spot on. Guess I’m an old school Vayniac but what makes you unique is the ability to improvise 20 minutes to cam’, day in day out, to a flat, locked off news reader style shot and somehow make it fascinating. Cannot think of anyone else that has ever pulled that off. It’s a gift. It’s also something to do with the very personal viewing experience engendered by watching, close in on a lap-top plus a flotilla of idiosyncrasies that are constantly amusing and endearing (comfy chair – surely you mean thunder saddle… and you offered Mott a drink once before when you had a cold and he didn’t want to use the same glass then either and you looked equally offended but he’s right and still needs to sort his haircut but then you make up quick)… and there’s the wine stuff too that also works – the expertise and democrotisation. When someone has genius for what they do, just watching them is somehow compelling. You don’t want to dilute it. Occasional odd variations are fun like the snow ep’ or when you just walked into some random bar or that one with Darth Vayner that got all theatrical… and of course, the Jancis ep’ will go down as one of the all time greats too… but for me at least, the golden era was 200 – 400 ish. Guess it’s impossible to recreate the excitement of that time when it was becoming apparent how big this was going to get but as we approach the final ep’ 999 (with 1000 to come from your deathbed) I figure there’s a certain poignancy that will kick in.

German lurker from London says Happy holidays to everybody. Keep it up, have been watching ever since early 2007 and enjoyed almost all shows – especially the blind tastings. So more blind tastings (together with guests?) would be great.

Keep nerding it up! Love it when you bring out the nerdy wines. Also, I love the blinds but I wouldn’t go all blind. More of them yes, all of it no.

Happy Holidays! Looking forward to some special wines with friends and family. Doing a little Veronese feast after Christmas with a progression of the Corvina grape. Valpolicella, Valpo Ripasso, Amarone, and if I can find it, some Recioto. I searched Wine Library for some and came up with nothing! Maybe I’ll stumble across a bottle somewhere.
