Hi GV!! Welcome back!! We missed a lot your wine insights this 5 years. Being an original Vayniac, and thru all this years asking for you to come back, its very nice to see everything changed for the best. Hope the family is very well, Sasha, AJ, Lizzie and Misha (a little baby when you stopped WLTV)! I myself, have a lovely couple babies at home, 30 month old boy and 8 month old girl. Hope WLTV is back to stay!! QOTD: 2012 Quinta Maria Izabel tinto, Douro. Great wine!

Keep nerding it up! Love it when you bring out the nerdy wines. Also, I love the blinds but I wouldn’t go all blind. More of them yes, all of it no.

Happy Holidays! Looking forward to some special wines with friends and family. Doing a little Veronese feast after Christmas with a progression of the Corvina grape. Valpolicella, Valpo Ripasso, Amarone, and if I can find it, some Recioto. I searched Wine Library for some and came up with nothing! Maybe I’ll stumble across a bottle somewhere.

  • Liked the show Gary, and I’m intrigued about the Vayniac Cab (now all I have to do is get my 3 bottles to the UK…hmmm…).

As to the 2010 QOTD, for me it’s just continue to be there – I’ve turned into a Lurker for most of the year, but still catch the odd episode and I’d just like to know you’ll still be around doing what you do so well.

Merry Christmas to you, the family, Mott and all at WLTV…

QOTD: Keep on surprising us, that’s the reason we watch. TBS, love double blinds within the same region, grape, vintage. Do some double blinds where there might be a myth busting. LOL!

I love to see the guests on the show unlike some others who are pehaps more purist Gary fans. Gary, you’re awesome, but one of the huge advantages your success has brought you is the ability to attract to WLTV real stars of the wine trade. People that other shows do not have access to. People that have insights and information not accessible from Springfield NJ. I would love to see those shows continue (especially if Gary can leatn to channel Jay Leno and LET THE GUESTS SPEAK WITHOUT JUMPING ON THEM!!
Gary, you often talk about wanting to give back. You now have the power to really help out deserving but perhaps struggling, unnoticed vinters by bringing the attention of your audience to their products. Use that power wisely–See SpiderMan–“With great power comes great responsibility.”

Here’s another challenge for you for 2010: Be the guy who stretches out the 100 point scale. Essentially the 100 Point Scale has become a 4 point scale–1=below 89 This wine is a pass or undrinkable to most, 89-91=Good well made wine, the starting point for most who care about wines, 92-94=A solid, excellent wine to seek out if the price is fair, 95-100=Exceptional wine, one to go out of your way to buy if priced fairly, or buy anyway despite the high cost for special occasions. Why must it be this way? Just because Mr. Parker said so? Because the market understands those 4 points? There should be a better, more descriptive way to compare. I have often thought something akin to baseball’s hitting and fielding statistics would be incredibly valuable, like a Baseball Almanac for wines.

Happy Holidays to you and your family!

Is Gary trying to rock the fauxhawk hairdo?
Very excited about the Vayniac Cab. My brother in law is coming up from New Jersey next week and bringing me the 4 bottles I bought so long ago.
Look how little that glass looked in Mott’s huge paw.
QOTD: Quick episodes like this! The past couple of months have been great with the under 15 minutes spots.
    Keep up the good work.

I’ve always thought that, with VERY few exceptions, the best shows were the ones that had no guests – just Gary doing his thing.

I’ve loved most every Blind Tasting show that you’ve done as well. I think “all blind in 2010” may be a bit too much of a commitment, but MORE blind would be welcome!

Happy Holidays to everyone at WLTV!

Fun, relaxed show that displays the biggest strengths of WLTV– the sense of everyday fun and being a friend to a talented, charismatic guy and getting a window into his life. When guests come in, or when there are shows elsewhere, it underlines that you are a celebrity rather than the son of a liquor store owner in Jersey who happens to be a great performer, excellent teacher, and sweet, hospitable bud. I think it’s the sweet, easygoing guy everyone is drawn to– not the hard-nosed business consultant who throws f-bombs around and has a seven figure book contract.

Stay true to your original vision and you can’t go wrong. No need to do more blinds. They are fun but too many would be boring. I like the idea of doing more requests and value-driven wine. Like choosing a day where you taste 6 wines under $15 that viewers have recommended, and you give your take on each one. I know I have significantly raised my wine budget– somewhat because I am now spending a lot more time with a special person who likes wine– but also because I like the idea of figuring out whether GV would like a certain wine. So more requests, a whole day every week devoted to requests would be great. You can use other days to go crazy price-wise and location-wise.

How about a WLTV app for Blackberry, iPhone, etc. Maybe with ability to text in responses? Be a great addition for 2010.

I ordered a couple of the Vayniac when it was still a presale, and anm really looking forward to trying it. I hope to try one now, and cellar one for at least a year.

Happy Holidays to the whole WLTV crew and families!

Mott should join the diplomatic corp: “That’s a big commitment”! 😀
Keep the mix, WLTV has never been a one trick pony and doesn’t need to be one now.

Now to see if I can catch up with the last months’ missed episodes by the end of the year!

    Lurker comment:

I do like the blind tastings – maybe do it for a month. A full year of that may get a little old-hat. One idea: Would love to see shows where you rate (maybe blind?)a much-loved winery/wine maker vertical(hot like Orin Swift, Mollydooker, Paul Hobbs, big names like Joseph Phelps, Pride, maybe even Columbia Crest). Thanks man.

I would love more virtual tastings. Monthly? Where we can buy some reasonable wines then taste along with you.

QOTD: Blind tastings (a couple per week), interesting guests, new wine regions (Russia? just kidding).

Nice episode. I haven’t bought wine in a couple of weeks, but I might have to see if there’s any of that ’96 St Vincent left. All blind all year? That’s a much taller feat than many things you haven’t been able to follow through on. Plus, even though I do enjoy the blind tastings, I wouldn’t want it to be that format all the time.

Great show! Happy holidays to all the WL and WLTV crew! Great laid-back show, and it is always good to see Mr. Mott out in front of the camera every now and again. Glad you even found a red he liked OK.

QOTD: Old school is good. I vote for Blind Tuesday. Make it a once-a-week thing, as regular as your schedule permits. Also, it would be nice to see at least one show a week devoted to budget QPRs. Even wine geeks need to find decent everyday drinkers, and the CKC can partake in those, as well. I know you haven’t wanted to taste ahead, but as a once-in-awhile thing, it might really fill a niche. And bring back the laid-back Fridays. We need to hear the leather, Gary!
