@GV – I agree with Randi: Good spot on CNBC. Tough to get a message out there when you’ve got three minutes and three co-hosts interrupting every three seconds. (Take notes for when you’re the host!) You did well slipping your basic mantra into the mix. Nicely done.

Just watched the CNBC spot. Perfect example of the fact if you wait for mainstream media to let you in on a trend you are too late. Just reiterates how in front of the curve you are. Great job.

Good show, love the label for Innocent Bystander. The ones we have around us is $25 bones, so we are going to have to see if the Pinot is available. Does anyone know what the whole board said?

I like big fruit but I’m not a fan of too much oak. You didn’t mention whether the heat came through on the shiraz or not. I guess with that much oak you couldn’t tell?

QOTD: I’m getting a wine flavors tasting kit! You know the ones where they have essences of specific flavors and aromas that you can use to train your palate to recognize. Should be lots of fun!

Gary, Who were those three jack asses on CNBC? To me they came off jealous of your success. It was almost like they intentionally tried to give you a hard way to go.

  • It is easy to get defensive about the wines from where you come from. I haven’t enjoyed the Australia bashing. Today it was good to hear what you had to say. In all seriousness mate you need to speak to an Australian who isn’t bullied by the European/American wine market and they will give you a peek into Aussie wines beyond the big Shiraz front as you mentioned, Clare Valley, Hunter Valley, Margret River etc.

Great showing on CNBC. Too bad for the Ass Hat’s who interviewed you, they really seemed like dinosaurs up there.

  • Honestly, do you really like wine #3? πŸ™‚ Kidding, of course. I have had the IB Shiraz which was great so can see why the Peenot rated so well.

QOTD: Not much. Maybe the “ad hoc” cookbook by Thomas Keller or “The History of Philosophy” by Bertrand Russell or Blue-Ray “Julie & Julia”? I am giving multiple copies of “Crush It” to my friends and of course the link to this show to my Aussie friends. πŸ™‚

    Cheers!

P.S. Did you ever see the Iron Shiek live? I did. It was amazing. One last thing: thank you for getting me the Vayniac cab in 2 days before the holidays and the nose on this wine is amazing! You did not get as excited about this as I expected so then again, I’m sure you felt it may be “tooting your own horn.” This Vayniac cab is good stuff!!!

  • QOTD: New wine glasses!

I like wines that explode in my mouth, but not with a lot of oak and not with fake flavors. Gary, have you had anything from Lone Madrone in Paso Robles? Their wines tend to be bombastic without being fake or overoaked (imho).

lol. I like the juxtaposition of the wines, one good, one pretty good, and one ΓΌber bad. What a reaction πŸ™‚

Yesterday, I saw that you commented back. Thanks! I was surprised because I don’t think if I’ve seen you do that before.

I came in l8 to the UStream last night and saw DJ V singing. lmao. What a perfect time to jump into the stream. I was too busy crushing it, so I didn’t stay long though.

QOTD: I know that I’m getting some nice tools for working in the vineyard. One of my friends from out of state sent a nice glass/decanter set, which is always appreciated.

It’s fun to see the Oak Monster back on the scene and cool that you had that bit of wood standing by.

YOU CANNOT TALK ANYMORE SMACK ABOUT MOLLYDOOKER UNTIL YOU DO A TASTING OF CARNIVAL OF LOVE, ENCHANTED PATH, and VELVET GLOVE. You might want to mention to your Vaniacs that Mollydooker didn’t even make these wines for 2008 because the fruit wasn’t good enough. If these wines were such a science project how come they couldn’t make the project in a bad vintage?

QOTD: I don’t think Santa has the finacial resources to bring me what I want. So I’m guessing nothing again….another year of BUPKIS. I know it’s not a bottle of 59 Mouton Rothschild…that’s for sure. Hey, maybe he can bring me a Magnum of Vayniac Cab…???

    Hey Garry,

Love the show and am extra excited to see some great Aussie wines on show and you liking them. I have to say though the mint thing from the Lange horn creek is a typical character from that region although here we usually pick it for a eucalyptus type smell.
Please I’d love to see more. Maybe some of those barely understood biodynamic wines, I’d love to know more.

    GOTTA CALL OUT THAT OVER-OAKED, OVER-EXTRACTED $#!+ !!!

QOTD: AGREED about the overdone Shiraz and Cabernet from Barossa and Padthaway, etc. HOWEVER- I LOVE a few of the Eden and Clare Valley Rieslings and dryer Semillons that I’ve had recently, as well as a few of the Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays from the Mornington Penninsula- solid stuff at a great price. Any thoughts here???
