QOTD: Martin Codax Albariño, good combination with sea food, and champagne Lacourte-Guillemart, very tasty!

    Merry Christmas everybody!

  • Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukkah to the VaynerCHUK and Mott families! What a dagger to misspell your name. It happens to me all the time but my name is not on a wine label! 😉

QOTD: Christmas Eve Dinner with a Roasted Rockfish, mashed potatoes, sauteed fennel/onion/tomatoes and broccolini with almonds.
    Wine: ’07 McManis Viognier
Medium straw in color, nice, fruity aromas. Round and viscous, smooth, with flavors of peach. A very nice wine that complimented the rockfish.

    Cloudline Oregon Pinot
This became my evening quaffing wine which is smooth as silk with aromas of spices and red fruits, i.e. red cherries, black currant. I really like this wine. One of my fav Oregon peenots.

Tonight: Finishing off this nice Vayniac cab. Even better the 2nd night, lovely aromas of dark, red fruits, actually candy-esque on the nose with sweet tannins. A very nice Cab on a foggy, wintery night.

    HAPPY HANUKKAH

    Cheers!

    GO COLTS!!!

Long time viewer, but first comment.

QOTD: Tonight, in one or two hours, Château Haut-Brion 1983; not a big year, but I’ve been waiting for this night almost all year long!

Salutations du Québec et Joyeux Noël!

    Merry Xmas Gary, nice show!

I’ve had amazing wines yesterday and today. They are both brazilian, as I am, they have great value and potential! Here they are:

Casa Valduga Premium Rosé Brut 2006, from Bento Gonçalves, Brazil: Onion peel color, fine, very small bubbles. Elegant nose with strawberries, raspberries, rose petal, dried leaves and brioche. Very fresh, lively acidity, creamy mousse and good persistence. 4 stars!

Miolo, Quinta do Seival Castas Portuguesas 2005, Campanha Gaúcha, Brazil. Made from portuguese grapes, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Alfrocheiro. Ruby, bright color. Exuberant nose with ripe black cherries, plums, violets, tobacco leves and subtle spice oak. Very balanced and persistent, with great pure fruit flavors and a nice spicy finish. 4 stars!

I hope you will be able to enjoy the fine wines Brazil are producing lately!

A Merry Christmas to you again.

QOTD – A local (Texas) Chennin Blanc, Becker Vineyards White Wildflower, off dry. Overall very serviceable, flavors were a cross between a spicy Gevertztraminer and Savignon Blanc, not dry at all.

QOTD: We decided to have the bird at lunch instead of supper so I went with a lower alcohol wine(7.5%,) the 2007 Markus Molitor Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett Riesling from Mosel, Germany. Absolutely gorgeous juice and at $21 Canadian bones fairly good value. Very minerally on the nose, with plays of juicy peach and pear. Fruity sweet attack, again peaches and then beautifully balanced with not bracing but well rounded acidity. Minerality throughout on the palate. The 2004 of this was really the wine that made me totally smitten with Mosel, but this 2007 is just as nice. I am seldom disappointed with QmP Kabinett Rieslings from Mosel. Joel

found in my cellar an old Wine Library wine. 2001 Annabella Cabernet from Michael Pozzan Winery. Cork was still good and wine had really aged well. I can’t remember when I bought it but it still had my little note on it. Since I left that area 6 years ago this bottle has slumbered well.
Not a great wine but pleasurable to drink.

    Hey Gary-
Great show, as soon as I saw the wines in the secret pack I immediately wished I had been able to order it, unfortunately they’re a little pricey for the CKCrowd The Gewurztraminer looked amazing, any wine from Mendoza has my complete attention after going there in the fall, and I’ve been seeing Chateau Sansonnet all over winelibrary and winelibrarytv so also really curious to try that. Merry Christmas.

QOTD- Perrin Reserve Cotes du Rhone 87 pts

The 2006 chateau sansonnet la reserve looks to bring the thunder. I wonder how it will in 10-12 year? Gary ,95 for Gewurztraminer ( what a mouthful to say) is outrageous. Hope you and your family have a great holiday.

QOTD. We had a beef roast for Christmas eve dinner(marinated in wine and herbs) SO I opened a Barnard Griffin 2006 merlot. That winery never fails to impress me. The merlot was full of bright fruit (cherries) with well intergrated tannins and a long finish. This is what a merlot should be.

  • QOTD: La Manella Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2001. WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
OK I received this as a gift. This is a very small production, we’re talking 125 cases only in select years stuff located down the road from Valdicava. HOWEVER, it is slightly off, not totally off but slightly off. My question is if you got a gift of a nice $50+ wine that was a little off would you drink it or spill it?

QOTD: 2003 Twomey Merlot. Nice. Decanted for an hour or so.
Wasn’t muted or grippy like it needed more time or decanting..
Oak had that old oak (not round and vanilla) more woody. took a while for the spices to come through.
Great nose of blackberry, currant, and cooked blueberry. Taste was more subdued than the nose:WHICH was OK. More plum with spice notes with other friut notes in the back.
Best part was the graphitey/wet granite component that blended with the dryness of this.
Not to extracted, actually quite light and showing a lot of acidity and balance.
    Who says POooPoo to Merlot?
    Not this elf!

    Now in the Calvados. Gooooooodnight.
