Stayed home, did some minimal cooking (OK, we cheated and brought in take home from Whole Foods!)–Drank a nifty and inexpensive Cotes du Ventoux (Grenache/Syrah/Carignan/Cinsault) with dinner and a Blanc de Noirs from our local winery Gruet at crunch time.

The 96 St-vincent was Awesome. But I was half in the bag on Grappa so I’ve got another bottle for the real sniffy sniff. Can I say that?

Qotd: Mirabelle Rose Brut, Iron Horse Russian River, Bruno Paillard Brut, Adami Prosecco. All of these were really good accept the Adami which went flat before we even got close to finishing the bottle.

  • I had a lovely French sparkler that was only $15, retail, but tasted like 3 times that: Saint-Hilaire Blanquette de Limoux 2005. So damn good. One of the advantages of working in a wine store is finding out about all this good stuff I would never otherwise probably even hear about!

In other news, going out to buy “Crush It” tomorrow, to start my New Year off right!

  • QOTD: We went for a Cava for a welcoming drink but for the midnight toast it was Palmer & Co Millésime Brut 2002.
    Review
A champagnes wiff of bread, yellow apples and som orange peel. A lot of minerality on the nose as well, almost limestone.
The taste is clear, dry, sparkling (duh 🙂 ) with lots of acidity and minerals, golden apple, citrus, and component I would describe as mashed roasted haazelnuts spread on som wet white bread. Delish for sure! 🙂
    Happy New Year

    Happy 2010!

Had some Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Demi-Sec at midnight, which was ok. Little honeyed appled going on.

Some Moscato Spumante Dolce at noon with friends, and then Mimosas with some Mirabelle Rose Brut.

I’m convinced that the crappiest sparkler would still make a good mimosa.

Happy new year, Gary! Great show as usual. A bit surprising about the Veuve… always been a fan of the Pierre Peters NV stuff, but I will have to look out for the Lasalle.

I was ringing in the new year at work last night (local steakhouse) and was fortunate to try ’82 Dom Perignon that a guest brought in. Soooo yeasty. A little marzipan-ish nuttiness as well. Absolutely fantastic stuff. Also, management popped a Jeroboam of Perriet Jouet Grand Brut for the staff which was a nice surprise.
