    Happy new year !

QOTD : I’ve popped Agrapart & fils Grand Cru Terroir, sharp, solid structure and delicious

  • Jon Weber

my first Champagne ever being a bottle of Bollinger Special Cuvee NV with my first ever brand new wife, haha. Still don’t know what to think of it (the wine that is). So what should I try next since I’m starting out with Champagnes?

QOTD: Vouvray Domaine Vigneau-Chevreau. Loved the bubbles, smaller than a real champagne, but when you press them against the roof of your mouth … heaven!

Gary, thank you for getting us through 2009, and we’re looking forward to a wonderful 2010!

    Happy New Year

    QOTD–
We had several champagnes at our New Years bash this year–
Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label- yeast & bread flavors, little fruit (Meh for me, loved by the majority)
Charles Heidsieck-fruit, no yeast or bread (I loved it but my friends preferred the Clicquot).
Another rose’ Champagne brought by a friend which I did not note (Sour and weak, but I couldn’t tell him)
Schramsberg Nectar for the sweet lover (yes I know it is only a “sparkling wine” since made in CA.-Sweet and yummy with desserts)

Happy New Year GV (and Mott)!

QOTD – it was a long day/night, and we got home at 11:45pm, so we popped a half bottle of Gruet Rose Brut. Not the most exciting this ever, but tasty nonetheless.

  • QOTD – Had a number of bottles, but I brought a J Brute Rose. We used it as the intro and certainly did not disappoint. Followed with at Moet, a Cava Rose and a whole lot more. The big surprise of the night was a Robert Sinskey single vineyard ’05 – really nice structure and fruit.

Happy New Year and welcome to 2010!

Great bubbles show, GV! For New Year’s I popped a 2006 Schramsberg Brut Rose and a 2006 Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs, both of which were delicious!!

Thanks so much for your honest assessment of the ’85 Clicquot. Bummer to hear it didn’t meet expectations, but these things happen. Can’t wait to see your tweaks to the show in the new year.

Happy New Year Gary and Mott! Celebrated New Year’s at Emeril’s popping open a Piper-Heidsieck Brut. Very smooth and sweet that comes from tasting a really really ripe pear (but not sickening sweet). Yummy!

I popped a Barefoot Bubbly Extra dry. At $7.97 my wife and I were very surprised at the quality (It is made by Gallo, so I wasn’t too surprised)

  • I’ve had generally good+ experiences with Veuve Clicquot Rose over the years. At almost 25 years of age, I’m guessing you just lucked into a bad bottle. That stuff doesn’t last forever.

A pretty great ’05 Vouvray Bubbly. But even $6 Korbel tastes good when you’re having a great time with a lot of great people.

Great Year, Gary. Loved your show!

QOTD: A 1993 Dom Perignon . . . non Oenotheque, but still, unbelievable nonetheless. It had just reached perfection in maturity. The best way to welcome in a new year.

Happy New Year Gary, Family, and everyone at WL!!

QOTD: Didn’t open any Champagne because guests preferred something sweeter. Opened up some inexpensive “party” bubbles–Freixenet Carte Nevada semi-sweet Cava, La Gondola Prosecco, Giovello blue bottle Prosecco–I disliked all of those. I am a big fan of Prosecco and demi-secs—these just weren’t appealing. I stuck with the still wines. A 2001 Belle Glos Pinot and a 2000 Paul Hobbs Cab. Both great wines, especially the pinot.

  • Mr Zito….. I have once last recommendation for you. Get your facts straight and watch your yourself when you comment about people you know nothing about. You’re obviously misinformed.

    This is a fact.

The first decade of the 21st century will end on December, 31, 2010.

Here’s why: The 1st century ran from year 1-100, 2nd from 101-201, 3rd from 201-301, and so forth. The 21st century began on January 1, 2001, which was also the first day of the new millennium. No one, not a single, solitary soul, every lived in a year 0!

So Mr Zito….. I recommend you try not looking so much like an ass this year as you made yourself look like last year when you wrote that comment about me.
