Happy New Year! My favorite, only because it’s a great excuse to break out the fancy bottles of bubbly.

We were a small party – just JonnyBubbles and Lady Bubbles, and, coincidentally, we opened the J Lasalle Cuvee Angeline 2000 and it kicked ass. I’m always interested to see how other people’s tasting notes compare with mine: Gary, you nailed it with the orange blossom. I wrote that exact thing. Wild.

Smelled like toasted pine nuts, tasted like apple cider and, yes, orange blossom.

At 65 bucks, a great bottle.

  • Happy New Year Gary.

I’ve been watching you on my ipod now for some time and have enjoyed every podcast.

Seems I enjoy the complex wines, now that I know the difference to some degree.

Thanks for your time in producing your show and I look forward to more in this new year.

Happy New Year, and congrats to the J-E-T-S, Jets! Based on what I’ve seen out of ‘Nati defense the last few games, they may just pull a repeat performance next week (Bengals are hurting with injuries to boot).

    Loved the Bubbles!

QOTD: Uh… can’t remember the name!!! An off-dry Cava.

I wanted to root against the Jets but it was tooooo late. They dropped the bomb on the tony the tiger bengals! My lady hates the helmets.
On one hand I don’t really want to hear about the Jets for the next week or more. On the other hand, WE love to see you happy! Happy New Year! I still have a bottle of the 96 St-Vincent for Monday. Lobster Sandwich?
    Go NINERS!

  • Congrats on making it into the new decade!

We consumed a nice bottle of Pierre Jouet NV and some bubbles from Argentina this year, Casa Margot… never had those before, surprisingly delightful. http://www.bodegamargot.com.ar.

Happy New Year to everyone at Wine library!!!!
Still loving your show Gary and especially the sparkling episodes. You should think about a blind champagne tasting with grower champagnes (Rodez etc.)vs brand name champanes(Moet, taittinger,Roederer etc.) and maybe 1 or 2 cremants or cavas, sekt etc. If you’re lucky you could even do it as a little Jets playoff celebration.
    Best regards from Germany

  • Happy new year to GV, Mott, and all Vaniacs!
We had a little roll of bubblies this week for a couple of events leading up to the new year…first, the last couple of bottles of a sparkling California white we made, then a cremant de bourgogne for the office party, we had a quiet ny eve at home with a nice Californian (I’m going to have to re-check the label when I get home…I do not recall), and then we had a stream of folks visiting from brunch until night on ny day and we made a whole lot of pilsner glasses with half a tangelo muddled in the bottom (seeds fished out) and the rest of the glass 3/4 full with one of the Barefoot bubblies.
The other choice was a couple of bottles of my dwindling stash of Bellot Cider from Chaource France…this stuff is seriously nectar of the gods. As I understand it has not been imported for over a couple of years…if any Vaniacs know of a source I would be very interested.

Wednesday night is work night in our basement “Circo de Burro” and the plan is to start 40 bottles of bubbly from grapes we harvested in the Lake Champlain valley back in October.

    He,
fun to be able to leave a comment with a different answer to the QOTD:

For the Queens speech (in Denmark) we had Deutz Rosé 2002, for the bells at midnight we had another Rosé: A Hungarian François Rosé 2004 and for brunch and the New Years Concerto from Vienna on the 1st, a bottle of Nicolas Feuillatte 2002 Blanc de Blancs. All good stuff 🙂

  • QOTD: Can’t afford anything close to the fancy stuff most people are listing, but here’s what we had:

    1. Piper Sonoma Brut
    2. Cristalino Brut Cava

    Happy New Year!
