Other than being nice to look at, gotta say that was a painful episode. She definately didn’t come off as knowing that much about wine other than how to get it for free. Seems pretty pretentious for the most part.

QOTD: No one cares about the JETS and the overrated Sanchise. I think the Bengals are going to be showing you a lot more than you saw on Sunday in Cinci as they didn’t want to play the Steelers or the Texans ;).

Comments are funny here. People’s perceptions are bizzare. Pic on this young girl, that sucks. Like Gary was much different. Gary has taken his empire to a new level I’ll give him that, but you guys talk about silver spoon in her mouth? Gary had a real nice start from his dad, he’s not self made. Brick and mortal, inventory was already in place and a head start foundation is almost everything in this world. I guess people just assume he is a from-the-ground-up guy, I don’t get it. His dad broke the ground. She’s in good company in my opinion, what’s the difference, age?

    Can’t stand any Buehler products.

    “Dominus
Sorry to hear about the Jet?s owner (Johnson) loss. Sad”
True, prayers out to the family.

QOTD: Over this weekend he’ll have the entire off season to work on it.

Sorry to say, GV, but this was an awkward guest show. Helen is cute and all, but she brought nothing new to the table. For someone who was raised in the wine business she doesn’t seem to know much about it. Maybe she is new to her job, and if so, I hope she is learning quick, because I wouldn’t be impressed if she was trying to sell her wine to me. I hate to be harsh, because not everyone is good on camera and that might be an excuse.

I seriously was wondering whether she was going to start texting her friends in the middle of the interview. I apologize for the criticism because she seems like a nice person, but…

As for the family winery thing, I just read in Parker that 95% of all the Napa wineries are family-owned, so it doesn’t seem like corporate America has taken over there at all.

Enjoyed the episode. Lot’s of tough critics out there. Helen could have sounded a bit more knowledgeable; But she did OK. Now I’m going to buy some Beuhler Cab!

QOTD: I think it’s ridiculous to have Girardi coach Sanchez on proper sliding. Living in NY it made for interesting reading in the newspapers.

  • The Grapevine

Dracula said “I never drink (pause) wine.” Helen should have used his pacing; “I never pay for (pause)wine.”

But who am I to bash Helen, when I was her age I thought Thunderbird was wine.

Thought it was an interesting show. I think that she was really into you. She couldn’t take her eyes off of you. There was a lot of criticism on Helen that was not fair. When asked what she picked up on the nose of the wine, she said wine. Let’s face it…I’ve been in the the restaurant business selling wine to customers for years, and I still can’t define a lot of characteristics in wine. Most people can’t. Most of us read what the wine should smell like from the winemakers notes or what articles write about the wine. Unless you do what gary did to train his sense of smell, most people would never know what a currant smells like. I think everyone owes Ms. Buehlar an apology. Another thing, “I don’t pay for wine”. I absolutely loved it. Since I work in a restaurant, I can say, I don’t pay for my meal” Everyone who disagrees with me are a bunch of haters!!

  • GV nice show…way to put the pressure on Helen in the middle, for what it is worth she showed well during the close up portion. Yes, she’s young, and obviously has a lot to learn, but it sounds like her heart is in the right place…give this rose time to mature and let’s enjoy seeing her again in a few years.
    Go Helen.
Happy, prosperous, and delicious new year to all!
