lines of the day – ‘Mallorca…you could walk it coast to coast if you’re in great shape like Mott’ and (of barging a young Pats fan) ‘I don’t want to be defined by that moment; that was a 65, in other moments I’m a 99’

Very enjoyable episode with really interesting guest (who manages to hang in there despite not having the best grasp of English). GV turning into a very good listener….at last !

  • Josh i will see what I can do!

  • 🙁 It changed on my logon

  • My prediction on the Jets/ Cinci game…I've “next day air'd” a can of Edge gel to ya! Just kidiing. Good luck to you and all my Jets fan friends.

  • Well, what is there to say. DISQUS is awesome 🙂

    Can't wait for episode 800!

  • Thnx so much KB for being a part of all this!

  • All three sound like some great wines. Would love to get some seabass going with the 08 Quibia.

  • I agree Flavor, Sea Bass would rock it!

  • Edward Salonia

Oh, with all the hoopla for the comment system, I forgot to comment on today's show. Good stuff and an interesting guest. Nice long episode to cap off the week.

  • MooseSox

I like the new format, Gary, I finally get to show off my Moose Sox!

But it is unfortunate that a lot of the old comments are gone now from past episodes. They are still on the really old episodes, but not the recent ones. Hopefully you can find how to put those back up.

Regardless, great episode. I love learning about these lesser known wines, especially when they turn out to be good products!

  • C-Shorty

I check the episode lengths before I watch. This one at 39+ min scared me because that time easily gets doubled with a baby in the house.

Glad I decided to watch this one though. Episodes like this are why I watch. Great guest, interesting wines, all new info for me. Fantastic stuff. I normally prefer to see you fly solo, but when you get people like this, I'm all for it!

  • johncrussick

Great show, better guest……..You know that the root of the problem last show was the 2 weeks of withdraw from the thundershow…..J-E-T-S J-E-TS J-E-T-S….

This is one of the great things about this show. Mallorcan wines, including one of the winemakers as a guest? Not only still bringing in new things after almost 800 episodes, but making it relevant, detailed and personal. I mean come on, in terms of content this stuff is fantastic. I know I don't comment on here a whole lot but I was really impressed with this episode and felt I had to say something. Great guest, the communication was surprisingly smooth and I learned a ton. I disagree with people about the length, I really enjoyed it.

QOTD: Barcelona are always a joy to watch (particularly last season), they play a really beautiful game

  • scottcarlson

Any wine that tastes like tequila?

  • <Teary eyed> No you haven't though I truly appreciate it. I love you my man. I would follow you to the end of the earth. Go Jets!

  • ericwalker

    Gary,
This show totally kicked ass. Great guest. Love what he brought to the table. I'm fairly new to the show here, actually more familiar with Gary Vee dot com. But I can't get enough – lol. That's “attraction marketing” for you. Followers. Anyway, I'm a wine idiot like most. But I have watched a few shows here, and picked up a $7.50 bottle of Malbec with a some dark chocolate. It was great. Of course, I have a ton to learn. Thanks for the show.

  • I liked the guests personality, but I have to admit that the episode was a little long. I found myself skipping to the spots where you reviewed the wine. Glad to see the beard! Hopefully we'll see it for a few more weeks!

Regarding the new threaded format! It's cool. Some of the commenters need to grow up. You're not being controlling, you switched programs and the flag feature was a part of that program. I've only been watching for about 200 episodes and from that I totally can see you may be a little of a type A personality but the Flag feature has nothing to do with that. As far as your employees being 'yes' men, that's up to them – but I'm sure you foster an open environment where opinions are welcome to drive success and change.

Grow the eff up and leave a comment, or just leave – it's a free world.

As far as Disqus goes. enter your info, select post as guest, then select post as guest again. You'll get an email saying you can subscribe to follow up comments. Ignore it and the world will continue to spin.

  • alex g

    what is going on?

  • MooseSox

Yeah, GV, you really shouldn't have all “yes” men as employees. You should hire some “yes” women as well.

JK, I couldn't imagine someone who would constantly look for sincere employee input than you.

  • Love the new commenting. Great episode. I love it, studied in spain. If he reads this Miquelangel, (tío!) gracias por venir. Espero que puedas vistar mas en el futuro!

  • dann_in_nh

    Enjoyable show.
Now it's up to you Gary and BW to get the AN/2 in your shop for us.

  • johnfarrin

Almost every person from that part of the world that I have met I instantly liked. They all seem to have openness and passion in their DNA. It's what you call the deliciousness factor. Lastly, to a few of your commentors, “can't we all just get along?”

QOTD:I'm way too old to be into soccer in this country.

  • stan koga

im a bayern munchen fan myself…:-)

  • Coleman

This was a great episode. I know absolutely nothing about this region but I'm going to go read up right now. I will definately track down and try the first two wines. The 3rd is outside of my budget but I'd love the oportunity to taste it as well. Id also like to say I do like the longer shows. This one in particular was very in depth. I really enjoyed hearing what Miquelangel had to say.

QOTD – As well as being completely ignorant about the wines of Mallorca, I also know nothing about soccer. I 'm still in a bad mood from the bcs championship last night.

  • drt999

Not the show I was expecting, but I liked it

  • BuddhaChu

Even though I'm not a graphic professional, I loved the labels on the second and third wines. As soon as I saw them, I knew I'd leave a comment about them and then you asked for feedback on them anyways. Nice contrasting colors with cool fonts and a great overall look.

    QOTD: Manchester United FTW!

  • yacoub

Cool show – great guest. He had much passion and flair. Nice labels too!

QOTD: I don't watch enough to have an opinion of Barcelona 🙁
But whenever I see a futbol game on TV somewhere, i do enjoy watching the game.

  • Zach

This show I will comment on. Had to pass on the last one.

Great show. Great guest. He reminds me of a young Captain Lou Albano – he just need the rubber band in the beard…LOL!

    QOTD – Sorry – I don't follow football (soccer)

First a comment on Disqus. The threads are fine but I don't like enabling cookies from third parties. There are some sites that I definitely don't want to let plant cookies on my computer so I'll have to try to remember to turn them on when I comment and off when I leave. Also my WL identity was already taken so I had to fall back to my CellarTracker ID.

The show was great and Miguelangel really gave a good picture of his winemaking philosophy. He overcame the language barrier very well. I was very impressed by the effort he and his partner have gone to to present a truly unique alternative to the wine world. I'd love to taste those wines. Thanks once again for expanding my knowledge and hopefully my palate.

    Big D

  • Ron

Another great show Gary. I think this one of the best guest you had. Good job.

  • Congratulations to Barça on their Club World Cup title, and gràcies to FSC for the fact that I didn't have to look any of that up. Seriously though, looking forward to the 2K10 World Cup, I only hope ESPN's figured out how to filter out the vuvuzelas …

Didn't you have an earlier version of the AN/2 in stock? I swear you did, and I think I may even have grabbed a bottle. If not, I'd love to see it – new grapes are always fun (sorry, but I can't help but go 'meh' every time I see a Bordeaux blend from Tuscany … and I like the stuff). So is there a line below which you add points to the Miller score, rather than subtracting them?

Anyway, great guest, I'd have him or his wine over for dinner anytime.

  • jmbujz

Gary! Cool episode! Definitely keep the guests coming. AND blind blind blind tastings!
    – Thanks for the episode – didn't know Mallorca made wine!
    – What wine glasses do you use on the show? I'm looking for similar sized glasses for myself and gifts for a friend's wedding (to accompany the 3 cases of wine!) . Any recommendations?
    – On that note… re: wine stems – crystal vs lead crystal vs glass and the health concerns about lead?
    – Why the beard? Are you a Devils' fan?
    Thanks!

  • Love the new format of comments!

  • Zach

Great show Gary. I really appreciate all the content you provide and I always look forward to a new video. Keep it up!!!

  • Great show. Go Jets!

  • cgatesman

This is exactly what we needed! Threaded AJAX based commenting–allowing you to comment while watching (Although, you need to fix it so comments are visible when you go to the main WLTV page, because you can still cause a page reload by clicking the initial “View all…” while watching.)

I think one thing that kind of turned me off from commenting was not wanting to constantly come back to see if anyone replied to me. With the capability of notifications through DISQUS (assuming it works), that fixes that issue, too!

Kudos guys! I love it, and I think you're going to see a LOT more comments with this format, because it really does turn into more of a forum format that encourages discussion rather than a single comment on the episode.

  • Very cool guest and episode. I've never had any Mallorcan wines, yet another entry in my ever increasing list of wines to try.

    QOTD: Barça is Awesome!

( I agree with your board today, the buehler episode had some intense comments )

  • cgatesman

Loved the show, Gary. It was very interesting hearing about these different wines. Get some of them in the store!

You addressed comments from the last episode perfectly! I also like the message on the chalk board. 😉

    QOTD: What's Soccer? 😉

  • WineWoman

Nice to see you, Gary–beard and all. Good luck to the Jets! Husband thinks Bengals will win. I hope Jets prevail 17-13.
QOTD: Sorry, don't follow the futbol(soccer).
    I have had a 100% callett from Mallorca. Jaime Mesquida–excellent, well-balanced, Old-World wine. Only about 13 bones.

  • damonpettit

Great show, fun guest. I love to see and listen to so many different people. I will be looking for some of these wines and will try them some day. Good comments on the comments, glad we live in the USA where this is even possible. Good luck to your team, my Broncos crapped the bed and opened the door wide open for you. So, your welcome. 🙂

  • murso

Great start, and an exciting topic/guest with a wonderfully new geo-cultural/varietal offering! I couldn't wait to comment w/ the new format.

Good on ya, GV, for a moment to address the Buehler episode. And you handle it like the pro that you are. I love whgat you do, and it fits the model of what I do…

Nation – HELP! I see that we can cast anonymity aside, in a small way, and post a photo of myself (purportedly…), but I don't yet know how. I'd joined fb, two months ago, and have a photo or two there, but am, as many people, kind of inept at the technical acrobatics that all you whizzes employ. Thanks!

  • greenpainting

New to the show..found it by way of your fabulous book, which I read most of in barnes & noble (i plan on buying it)…anyway, i love it. great guest..kind of a romantic old world character and callet, such a space specific grape..big fan now and jets are a lock..

  • grinningman

    Hey Gary

Great Show. What a cool bloke. He's certainly the type of guy I want making wine for me.

QOTD: A soccer question is definitely a step up from a American football question!!! Barcelona are pretty good and I cerainly prefer them to madrid, though I think somtimes the Spainish competition is (like the Scottish) really a two horse race and this can be pretty uninspiring.

    Cheers
    Andrew

  • Zach Z

Sorry Gary. The Bengals are gonna kill the Jets. The rookie will fall. Carson Palmer and Ochocinco are finally back in the playoffs and they are coming to play!

QOTD: Barcelona is a damn good team. Puyol is the man!

  • pete c

Great show and guest, Gary. Get the wines. Don't let the bastards get you down.

  • murso

Imaginary country… Excellent! That smacks of one Randall Grahm, of Bonny Doon Lore. The little girl, on the “Il Fiasco” label?

And it also reminds me of the charming 1969 cult movie “King of Hearts”.

Miquelangel is getting more awesome! (now @ 21:09)

  • de vinos

I'm from Mallorca. The show was great, because you,as allways. You have to taste Anima Negra again,it's really much better then AN/2,which is not bad,no wine lover drink it here.
    Baaaaad cuestion,Barcelona stinks.Hala Madrid !

  • patrickhorn

I'm pulling for the jets this weekend but Cinti will come to play this week.
QOTD: When someone mentions Mallorca I think of Rafael Nadal! This guy if (a big if) he stays healthy could be the greatest tennis player of all time and he embodies Mallorca perfectly: family first, national pride, big heart, fiercely competitive, softly spoken, like a great wine: soft and classy on the outside but tough as iron inside, like Michelangel. Great guest! Good work, Gary.
Re: Big aussie wines are easy to make. Yes, with enough attention to viticulture. The flip side of the coin: balance is also easy. Almost every $10 wine at 12% alc. is going to be balanced. Water is balanced! And so a wine with less “love” or extract will have more water and be balanced. What is much more difficult is big and balanced. The new meets the old world into the “next” world. Thanks for reading my 2 cents for whoever gets this far.

  • murso

Miquelangel showed not only joviality, but great conviviality, and true Mediterranean humility (humbleness), with his respect for the vines, grapes, and Earth. What a great man! He really did bring ALOT to the table ! Thank you both, so much!

Qodt – Isn't Barca one of the great teams? Yeah, I thought so.

  • Interesting ep.
The bit about it's a basic country – no laws or borders was very funny.
Who is spending >$45 on Cru Beaujolais?

  • Kelly

Really liked this one Gary what a neat Guy. See you Feb. 20th
