lines of the day – ‘Mallorca…you could walk it coast to coast if you’re in great shape like Mott’ and (of barging a young Pats fan) ‘I don’t want to be defined by that moment; that was a 65, in other moments I’m a 99’

Very enjoyable episode with really interesting guest (who manages to hang in there despite not having the best grasp of English). GV turning into a very good listener….at last !

Well put on the HB issue.

This issue was starting off bad as it was really difficult to understand him, but I'm glad I stuck with it as the wine and guests turned out to be very insteresting.

QOTD: I don't understand the disconnect between here and the rest of the world when it comes to futbol…

  • zrm

What an amazing episode. I just loved his passion for his product and the way they do things.

To be honest I am rooting for the jets as well even though having Ochocinco further in the playoffs would be very entertaining.

    QOD: Boo Barca GO Chelsea

  • jamesculp

Sad I sound like so many others here, but Gary, great job addressing the Bueler drama. The chalkboard said it beautifully, as well.

QOTD: Meh. Their next game will probably end in a tie–but I have no idea when it will end, because they just add injury and penalty time until one of the refs decide it's over.

Jets definitely overachieved this year, and Ryan is a trip, but they won't beat the Bengals. Nevertheless, to do so well behind a rookie who could still be in college right now (and probably getting paid about as much by USC's boosters) is quite impressive. The Jets have a bright future.

What an amazing guest! LOVED this episode. The guy was so authentic and original that I actually want to run out and buy his wines. My grandpa used to say that when people put authenticity in whatever they produce, no matter how irrelevant, the product become authentically good. Miquelangel totally gives that vibe!

QOTD: Barca is gonna kick ass! Watch out Chelsea.

  • Brian De

I´m Eduardo from Argentina and I´m a fan of Estudiantes de La Plata. We played against FC Barcelona in the world cup in Abu Dabi a cuple of weeks ago, so I´m a little mad at Barca but honesty and putting aside my feelings, their are a great team and Messi is the best player in the world. Let´s hope he can do the same things for Argentina in the World Cup this year in South Afrika!!!! Chears!

How interesting the progression of the comments. Great to see that you've addressed the issue, though, it would've been nice to see you address the issue sooner. But, what's done is done.

Anyhow, this is what's great about wine with so much more varietals reaching and obtaining exposure that shows great potential. Very excited and hope to try these wines sooner than later.

    QOTD: Sorry, I don't follow soccer/football.

The proprietor and winemaker, Miquelangel was at the Spanish wine bar I work at the night before and mentioned that they were going to to an episode @ winelibrary. I asked the owner if I can take a bottle so I can taste it while watching the episode. I find the Anima Negra 04 actually very Baroloesque without the body I typically get from some. Very elegant and pretty, definite red fruit and some cedar aromas for me. I find this wind outstanding!!! The AN2 actually reminds me of something from Bordeaux very tasty and nice complexity! Great value of course! It's great to drink uncommon varietals that are tasty!!! Good job on hosting this guest and though you didn't seem as delighted as I am from the Anima Negra you were very kind and diplomatic and still gave it some props!!!

There’s a difference between constructive criticism and calling names. Just as there’s a difference between people who comment to make a point, or people who just like to “hear” themselves talk. If you want to be perceived as constructive criticism, you need to stop calling people ‘imbecilic bimbo’ or ‘idiot moron’ (what an expression, Mr. Eloquent….). The word ‘critical’ implies both a critique of others AND of yourself. The first must be based on the second in order to be legitimate. If your concept of an ‘open’ dialogue is the defined by the right to be swearing at others, you seriously need to rethink your concepts. As of now, what you’re propagating is the right to be an asshole. Good luck.

You people are crazy. I have never commented in this column before, I have enjoyed Gary V.’s shows, then on comes this trustafarian wine chick who knows nothing about wine — “Uh, gee, smells like wine to me” — I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, I reported as such — obviously others did as well bec. Gary, in his inimitably self-promoting way deleted many of the posts. How coud he stoop so low was what most of us were thinking! Then, out comes the morals police, guys like you and Mike above telling me how I should behave, how I shoould respond, as if there were a protocol, as if there were a dominion of demanor of which people like you rule over. I was making a simple point: the woman is a wine dunce. Gary should have vetted her before putting her on. Once on, the normally caustic and refreshingly cynical Gary treats her with kid gloves. Why? He should have derided her for the stupid little rich girl she is. Why? Because she has no business being in the, well, business. That’s all I said. Okay, so my language was colorful and my tone a tad strident, but I wanted to make a point, as did many others. Even Gary knew this was a mistake bec. for the first time in the history of his show he delivered a rambling, and shamelessly eavasive, 3 min. mea culpa before the Cerda show. HE knew! It’s a shame that he got rid of all those posts — I would love to have read them. Instead of your and Mike’s lame little reproving replies to mine. Let me repeat to both of you: free speech and criticism comes in all kinds of forms: measured speech, invective, and screed. And, let me repeat again: FY to both of you!! FY!

Thanks for shining a little light on a part of Spain that gets no play. Nice guest.
Also add my kudos to the others for addressing the Buehler comments.

QOTD: no idea, most of what I catch are matches from Italy or England. Viva la Torres!

  • Rich

Miquelangel was such a wonderful guest!
Now, I'm wondering if I can get some of the AN/2 from Winelibrary!

  • YoungDave

FANTASTIC authentic and passionate guest! And what a GREAT unique region (the island of Mallorca) to explore on the Thunder Show!
QOTD: Hmm- although I will continue to explore wines from Mallorca, Barcelona Football is not something that I follow. HOWEVER I wish them well in their season for this spectacular guest!!

  • chateauplonk

    Grapes I've never heard of+region(!) I've never heard of+rad guest=Awesome episode!

FY to you too, Buddy. All I’m saying is that you could have put your point across without making assumptions about the womens entire character, and evaluating her entire life on the basis of her show with Gary, let alone calling her a bimbo.
I actually agree on some of the points you make, especially that Gary should never have let her on the show in the first place. I have no intention in being a part of the police of morals, what I was responding to was the claim that stuff like ‘imbecilic bimbo’ can be called ‘constructive criticism’, and so I’m simply pointing out that if you want to be taken seriously, you should leave words like that out. This is not nescessarily how I think it should be, but that’s just the way the worlds is.
When it comes to free speech, I am of the conviction, that if we don’t censor ourselves to some degree (meaning: think about how to get your point across, so that others might understand your point of view) this socalled freedom is worth nothing. If we all say what we are thinking (directly) all the time, or say stuff just because we can (I could just call anybody a ‘cocksucker’ 50 times…but what’s the point?), our socalled freedom will disappear.
You’re entitled to use whatever language you want, just don’t complain when people take offense. They are entitled too their opinion too.

By the way: check out my comment on the censorship-issue. I think we agree more than it appears….

  • Anonymous

By the way: I am your ‘like’ and my comment on censorship is near the end of the line of this AND the buehler show. take care

  • Gary, have you tried Castell Miquel Stairway to heaven? Awesome Rosé from Mallorca.

  • WTH? Where are the subtitles for this episode? 🙂

He seemed like a nice enough guy but pretty difficult to understand. As for the Barcelona question, having visited there somewhat recently I love the passion Europeans have for futbol…soccer. I was fortunate to be in Barcelona a couple years ago when they beat Italy in one of their most important tournaments.

  • devinos

$45 on Cru Beaujolais ????,don’t compare a “strawberry wine” to a great wine like Anima Negra.

  • Richie

Great guest! Really fun guy. I love the way one can see he is enjoying himself.
QOTD: I like spanish wine more than spanish football! 🙂

  • Cullen

I have had the Anima Negra 2 (ÁN/2) a few times now and it is a good wine. Highly recommend it.

    Hey Gary

As I didn't read the comments on the last show, I am very curious to find out what happened, especially because of the things you said in episode 797 (the stuff about a mom defending her daugther; WHAT…!?). You need to have the comments back as soon as superhumanly (yes that's you…) possible, and you need to do it for us all.

To hell with the general curiousity about what happened (including mine), this is an opportunity to reflect on mass mentality, human behaviour and lots of other pompous ass stuff, which should fit right into the general branding of the Vaynerchuk name that you are so vigilant in pursuing.

My point is this: with all the excentric, positive, decent and inspirational force you are able to put across in these shows, our whole image of you is depending on the fact that we feel we can trust you, at least to be yourself (and you know it). This gets hard if there is ANY room at all for speculation on censorship or dishonesty.

I don't believe that you would do it, and since a lot of other shows on WLTV miss comments as well I think that the speculations on censorship is over top. This being said I realize why people might think so (lawsuits and what have you…), and this is why you need to be COMPLETELY transparent on this issue.

What I'm saying is this: You need to prioritize this as an absolute first. If you can tell me to get hold of Barbaresco as fast as possible, I can tell you this:

If you have ANY way of getting hold of the old comments on episode 796 in ANY electronical form, you must post these directly to the front of WLTV. NOW!

I would consider this THE most awesome statement in blogging history, and I guess you know I'm right….

    In deep respect and gratitude

    Kasper Herbøl

    “FY”…is that really necessary?

  • You can read them here http://gourmetlibrary.com/Wine_Tasting_with_Helen_Buehler_of_Buehler_Vineyards_Episode_796.html, Gary (and his developers like me) didn’t get rid of the comments, they are just importing slowly to the new system. I did happen to save all of them in the old format before the switch over so I could read them on my local computer while they imported into the new system.

They got posted on Gourmet Library because that’s the only server I have access to from my home computer.

  • 1st to reply to Chris’s 1st post!

QOTD: I love Sagrada Familia cathedral and the Catalan language and that is what I know about the Barcelona football club.

    Lovely episode.

  • Kasper I am trying like heck, if you look the last 400 episodes dont have comments, disqus tols us the import would take 2 hrs, I would never ever censor comments, I was born in the USSR, I am very sensitive to that subject, I just got caught in bad timing, we are trying to fix it as we speak!

I am very thrilled to hear that, and I am very surprised at how fast you answered this.
    You are fuckin AWESOME!
What I think a lot of the criticism stems from is simply our love for your unbelievable personal effort in general, we simply don't want it ruined (I suspect you realize this).
Good luck. You're a true inspiration.
