Loved this episode and have loved all the episodes before. I am one of the horrible lurkers that never comment but I am going to change that this year.

My wife, mother-in-law and I do a new tasting each month. Since they are both Italian, we will be giving this type a shot for January and we are all excited.

Since it's kind of an open forum day, I hope you got a second to check out our show this week since I opened it with a tribute to the Gary Vaynerchuk opening and closed it with a shout out to Crush It. Thanks again for changing my life.

Me, with a little help from you… Changed my home life and reminded me how important my family is. Thanks a million!

  • Love the show, my fav. shows are always the blind or double blind shows. I here you are having a prob with ATT you should go with big red. they are getting the nexus 1 google phone in the spring!!!

  • teckdeck2008

I just got to say that I'm getting more and more regular at watching your podcast now that I graduated. and drinking more wine now that i'll be making a bit of my own money lol. About the late night thing, as much as I want conan to keep his spot i feel like he was more genuine at his old time slot. he still took crazy guests like you on the show and it made it more interesting for me. but i really don't want him to get screwed over on the his contract either. other than that, keep doing what your doing.

    Open Mic Night:

If you're like me and watched Julia Childs on TV when growing up, you need to see the movie “Julie & Julia”. At the end of the movie I guarantee you'll be hungry. ๐Ÿ™‚

Put the Blu-ray disk in your Netflix queue.

  • The Hairy Hillbilly

Sir Gary called. He's pissed. He's tired of getting the cold shoulder. He says he's about to “start his own video wine blog”!

  • Phredd3

QOTD (SOTD): It's been awhile since I've said thanks, so, “Thanks.”

Game prediction: Chargers, 31; Jets, 17. Sorry, Gary.

Other game prediction: Duke Women, 58; UConn, 72. That will make me sad, but as much as I hope they will, I don't think the Blue Devils are going to stop the Juggernaut.

  • Dominic C.

I'm going to to say 14 chargers – 7 jets overtime.

  • Love the Piemontese wines!! Just visited there in November and wow!! Great show once again. I haven't posted in a while, but still hanging around since episode 120ish.

    Predictions –
    Chargers 20 – Jets 17
    Colts 31 – Ravens 24

  • SeattleSteveW

Gary I got a question for you,
The Leno vs. Conan Showdown: Who Do You Side With?
    Hopefully CONAN!!!!

    [my very 1st post:]
FATHER GARY FORGIVE ME FOR I HAVE SINNED A GREAT SIN!!
    ๐Ÿ˜‰
…I drink one or two favorite [cheap] Cabernets, and that's it (OK, maybe an occasional Shiraz!).
But I promise I'll repent and mend my ways.
I discovered you through Jay Abraham and Rich Schefren (great post on their League of Extraordinary Minds program!).
    …either way…
I did not realize how ABYSMALLY LITTLE i knew about wines.
Thank you for slapping me around and waking me up to the Technicolor world of wine that exists beyond cheap Cabernet.
    Keep up the great work!!

  • Very good show, Dolcettos are incredibly cool with food and the italians know it, love the Gnocchi reference, it’s one of my favorite italian dishes, with arrabiata sauce oh man, Delightful.

For dinner tonight I made a special Mexican dish, “Torta de Jamรณn”, and paired it with this- http://corkd.com/wine/view/110879-2002-mont-plaisir-selection-privee , it was incredible: ham, avocado, tomatoes, chipotle sauce, curcumin, manchego and asadero cheeses, escarole lettuce, bell peppers and a dash of english sauce…. Heavenly.

Hope the Jets win, 45-14….I love wine but I also love golf…Love Andre' and his BV deLatour, as that is how I was introduced to wine…Golf teaches you that injustice and luck are part of the game just as it is in life, hope that answers the qotd enjoyed #800 my one wish would be that my dad was still around, don't ever take that for granted, seriously

Okay I have been in the shadows been watching since 07 went back before one LAX to NYC flight downloaded them all and watched back to back for 5 hrs straight pretty sure by that and a couple more flights like that I am all caught up.

Favorite shows are ones with your Dad because he has to be the only guest that doesn't say “yeah that's what I'm getting”.

Double blind and showdown episodes, after I saw the Pinot Noir showdown in which the Oregon Evening Lands won out I looked it up on Wine Searcher and strolled into K and L in Hollywood to pick up 2, one to drink now one to put in the cellar.

Lastly any show in which you geek it up.

Oh yeah, you and Jim Cramer are always entertaining together, I like the episodes on wine as an investment not just a passion, nothing wrong with having a little of both.

Fav shows on TV, Nurse Jackie, Deadwood re-runs, Saving Grace, Diners Drive-ins and Dives, West Wing re-runs, Dexter.

  • Mike_Nelson

Good quick show. I like how the wines ended up in that order: worst to great. I'm plowing through a lot of champagne lately. I really have the bubbly bug. Tonight, however, is a 2005 Zaca Mesa Syrah from the Santa Ynez Valley. In other news I'm studying for the Level One sommelier test.
I'm based in San Diego. The one thing we do really well here is microbrews. Make sure to try one of the following: Stone Brewery, Green Flash, Alesmith, Lightning Brewery or Ballast Point when you're here. Most decent sports bars have a good selection. And if you want to have the fish taco that beat Bobby Flay in a Throw Down episode, then you need to go to Mama Testa's on University Ave.

  • David Harris

I enjoyed the Camerano dolcetto '07 although not as much as their '06 barbera. The 60-something point score seems a little harsh.

  • DAveAll

good episode. congrat's on making over 800. watched them all.

Say something about us? I think we regularly show our inner selves in comments. That's what autonomous posting is all about. haha.

  • My husband Cy and I just bought our first wine via cinderella wine. The Solaria Brunello Di Montalcino 123 '01 and we're super ridiculously excited. We're pretty new to WLTV and relatively new to wine in general. So thanks, Gary, for having that awesome system set up on cinderella wine!

Also, didn't mention this before. Congratulations on your new nephew. My sister (Katie Marquez actually) had an amaaaazing baby last April–Santiago Rafael?. Unfortunately we are living about 450 miles apart now and it just breaks my heart. So cherish it!

  • wiljak

This episode shows exactly why dolcetto isn't as popular – such a wild swing in quality at a given price point. Even in Milan, you go to a wine shop and look for dolcetto – unless you know the producer or have had the wine before you have no idea what you're gonna get. It can be great stuff though. Burrata & fiambre!!!

  • UCBeau

I think there are even better places for fish tacos out here..like South Beach down in OB for example..Beats Mama Testa's hands down, in my humble opinion of course ๐Ÿ™‚
And definitely second the beer recommendations, Ballast Point and Alesmith are my two top picks. Stone is great too and has a killer restaurant to visit. Cheers!

  • Or my mother-in-law who makes some MEAN fish tacos. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • amgryger

    good point.

  • Mike_Nelson

Good to know UC. I figured I might peak Gary's interest if he knew Bobby got his apron handed to him.

  • wneslage

    GV-
I know this is 1 episode too late, but what was the wine your Father wanted to drink but you did not have 10+ cases??

    Thanks,
    WN

  • manonthemoon

Always a let down after a Sasha show.

Jets end their season this weekend
Chargers 31 the bad guys 17

  • Askold Shegedyn

Dude, I appreciate all your effort with Wine Library. I think you inspire lots of people to enjoy wine, life, and doing what they love.

But stop talking about Dolcetto. Its one of the few QPRs that have the complexity of a Burgundy at a reasonable price point. Hopefully most will ignore your message and go back to Malbecs and Shiraz.

  • RANDINTHECITY

    GARY!!!
Youre just too funny & adorable w/your wine descriptions…
I cant predict w/the Jets…I can only pray! LOL xo

QOTD: Deeply saddened by the tragedy of Biblical porportions in Haiti…in trying to process it, I am reminded how lucky, how truly blessed I am..and am grateful for all that I have..

    Who is John Galt?

QOTD: I have a feeling I'm going to be seeing your newly shaved face on Monday…NY 17, SD 34

  • AnthonyManzalji

He mentioned it in the episode. “Let me get this out of the way so I don't get a thousand emails…” I didn't really catch the name but it's there.

  • heavyblanket

QOTD- Statement, first, I know it's been a while but thanks again for coming to OKC. It was a pleasure meeting you and hearing you speak. My QOTD-Where is the episode you shot with my man Clayton???? As for an avatar…that is me and my boy born right around the time your baby was born (05.13.09) Big Day! How is it living with an 8 month old.
Dolceto rules! The quisine of the Piedmont region is so different that other parts of Italy and it needs its own wine. Grilled meat, risotto, they need what you get from Dolcetto. Subtle body but vibrant and complex.

  • wneslage

Thanks Anthony…I wasnt really sure….I think it maybe Lail 2005(Blueprint Red), but want to make sure before I dropped $40(+shipping)…

Say something? Okay, I hate Disqus with a burning passion.

Threaded comments are good, but Disqus just flat-out does not work for me?perhaps it's a platform thing and Disqus is a marvel on a Windows machine, but on my Mac, not so much. Every single blog I've ventured onto that uses Disqus causes me the same problem: I select “Oldest first” and start to read, and a few pages in, Disqus cycles back to the oldest comments (presumably at or around the middle of the stack). This behavior irritates me so much that I haven't even visited this site since the day of the changeover.

I subscribe to WLTV on iTunes and will enthusiastically watch as long as you do episodes, but don't count on comments from this quarter.

that which I value most is integrity and Authenticity… be it wine music or sports (my three loves) or in Marketing (my career) This is why I love Radiohead…Wilco… Adam Graves…Brian Leetch… Harry Carson…CDP…BdM…Borolo …the Apple brand etc…

  • scottEJ

Sorry no avatar, G. Too lazy. I'll try and change that soon enough. Thanks for the Dolcetto ep. My palate is on a big Italian kick this days.

SOTD: When I go, I want it be eating cheese & drinking wine. My Wife has a better palate than me even though I'm more versatile in my preferences. I would normally have picked the Chargers this weekend, but, now I have a soft spot for the Jets. After watching one episode of Jersey Shore, I've sworn off guilty pleasure TV. I'm growing really, really tired of meh wine.

My predictions. Jets, Indy, Vikes, Cardinals.

  • eli2tyree

oh and my fav episodes.. off the top of my head… tasting in the snow… trashing Ruffino and loving the selvapiana… any time you say you “love nuts in your mouth” I have to laugh… or “I love putting things in my mouth” or “wood in my mouth”… gotta love Gretzky cause he is gretzky… the crazy french biodynamics guy… Terlato was good the zardini episode was great… there are many more! any with sasha

  • pipcelot

We may see eye to eye on wine, GV, but we part company when it comes to the grid iron. The Chargers CRUSH IT to the Jets this week, winning 37 to 13. In his post-game press conference, Rex Ryan apologizes for Sanchez' 5 interceptions and his ridiculous predictions, and vows to turn over a new leaf, predicting that the Jets will “only” win the next 10 Super Bowls by an average score of 52 to 9.

  • kevy1c

Would love to see a dedicated sweet wine episode..A really nerdy one, get some strange stuff on there.

  • gsd22

Sweet wines indeed… id like to see more Tokaji on the show ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Katie Marquez

Hey Ric, go make Cy watch episode #111. Gary tastes the same wine in 8 different glasses. Its great. (Although, our little experiment with my red wine glasses and the champagne glass was pretty fun, this was (obviously) way better.)

And yes, he's pretty cute. His favorite pastime is pulling the wine bottles off our rack. He had one in each hand yesterday. We stashed the rack in the closet and he still managed to get in there and pull a Shiraz off of it before I could stop him. What does that say about his personality? Gary- if you have any tips on what to do about that behavior let me know! ๐Ÿ™‚ And yes, I second the congratulations.

  • Great show my man! Go chargers, and what a “blast” on my man Conan.. However, just noticing what a great start for the year, and what commitment you have for your show and your peeps.. You are bringing the wine with the pig skin and all the other mixtures of what's going on.. Keep up the excitement!

  • Nooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • Erica, Cy, I love u guys, welcome!

  • Welcome ๐Ÿ™‚

  • I predict a JETS win.

QOTD: Love the new comment format (<3<3<3). Can't wait to see you at SXSW. You need to come up with a secret code for the location of your midnight hotel lobby wine tasting. He, great idea… midnight, cinderella, intrigue & mystery. I think I'm on to something here.

“Changed the wine world whether we like it or not!”

  • DFbwp

    Thanks for the knowledge.

  • jsums

Colts, Jets, Saints, Cowboys. That's how it's gonna go down. Just sayin. I'll be hollerin my arse off for my boys in blue at Lucas Oil Stadium tomorrow. WOHOO! QOTD – I'm fascinated by little wineries from obscure places that are doing brilliant things. Case in point: I was in Lexington, Kentucky for the Keeneland Fall Thoroughbred Meet. While there, a local friend of mine took me to Jean Farris Winery just outside of Lexington. I guess what's good for the horses is also good for the vines, because their reds were BANGIN! They're all estate grown wines except for the Zin, and while the whites needed work, the PS, Cab, and proprietary tempranillo blend (called Tempest I believe) rocked my world. Go figure. Again, just sayin. Score one for the bluegrass.

  • Dave

Fantastic Show! But the Chargers will prevail!
