    Thanks for asking!
Sorry I haven’t commented yet- busy throwing myself off the Golden Gate Bridge (lol). Please check me out on 1winedude.com blog, January 20th. Smells like a second chance 😉

The Vayner nation will get a kick out of it- love you guys xo

About the comments. A lot of the time I feel that if I don't comment the day of an episode that it's not worth commenting. I often watch the show the next day, so sorry if I don't participate enough.

Love Dolcetto, had some with a really nice duck dinner not to long ago. Duck + Dolcetto = Bliss. One of my neighborhood places right now has the Scagliola Da Sempre Dolcetto on the glass pour list. nessundormariverwest.com/ Though their website says otherwise.

Favorite episode, Nicolas Joly, of course!

Chargers 20 Jets 17 No overtime.

    Another great Italian wine show……..

Your Dad rocks…….you should have him on more often.

I'm sorry, but I don't think there will be an upset in San Diego, but I'm pulling for the Jets as my Giants failed to show up for the end of the season!!!!!!

    Love the Northern Italian reds………

    Regards,
    Ron

Okeedokee: I'll actually root for the Jets this W/E ( being a Pats fan, now known to me for the entire offseason as the patsies). At least the Jets are EC AFC.

I just found the Conterno Dolcetto Bricco in NH, now I'm excited to try it.

Best moment in an episode was just recent.
When your guest talked about the Teran grape, you got up, came back and said “this is the Iron Sheik, he's from Tehran”. The look on his face killed me.

Well you wanted folks to quit lurking so here I am. Officially un-lurked!

When are you going to have another college made, wine tasting again?

I hope my blog will inspire you to be happy.

Gary you are bringing it with the Italianos in 2010! Here and at Cinderella, I'm lovin' it.

My beautiful avatar is a picture I took on the picnic grounds at Chappellet. For those of you not familiar with the area that is Lake Hennessy in the background.

I'm a proud Kansas Jayhawk fan and alum. I'm also a huge Chiefs fan, although that's been difficult…for a long time! We'll see what Weis and Crennel can do to help the clueless one. Gary does that mean with the large contingent of ex-Pats on the team you now hate the Chefs?

My Jets – Bolts prediction is a tough one. As a high school acquaintance of Brian Schottenheimer, I would love to see the Jets win (and for you too GV), but I think it's time to shave the beard.

    Bolts 24
    Jets-20

Hello! I am not old enough to legally drink in many parts of the USA, but I find your show fascinating and I have since 2007. Keep up the good work!

keep drinking wine! that is what its all about, the experience and the knowledge of various regions and AVA’s will come naturally!!

  • johncrussick

Would love to see GaryVay vs Parker on a double blind Cab show! Would be epic, although I doubt Parker would show for that epic showdown! ALI vs Fraser!!! Honestly great show, def an Italian week for the thundershow and Cindy for that matter. Would love to see a Grunier episode in the future

  • Official Unlurk after watching every past episode.

Something about me; My first wine experience was a pink Zinfandel boxed wine that scarred me from being interested or trying another wine seriously for years until a trip to Oregon changed my outlook.

P.S. Can we get a episode about pairing wine with really spicy food that goes beyond the recommendation of Riesling / Gwertz

interested by your post. I was wondering if you could clear up some of the contrasting info on heart health and wine. I have heard that a glass a day increases circulation, but I also hear that drinking much more can effect overall cardiac function. Help my out!

  • Hey Gary. Thanks to you I'm always trying new wines. I'll walk into my local Central Market and just grab a wine I've never heard of, but I've never had a wine I absolutely hate. Maybe because my palette hasn't had all the varieties?

As far as the game, I was impressed with the Jets win over the Bengals. This is where their run ends though. The Chargers are just too good. It will be a close game, but the Chargers will come out on top. I'm a Texans fan by the way.

Another thing. My favorite episode was the cereal pairing because I love cereal!!!

  • I’m glad to hear that the 6.99 havens 2006 merlot wasn’t a bad wine. Originally, I was hesitant to buy it since I heard stories that 2005 was when Billington started altering the wines. However, for the higher valued wines, Reserve that was sold on WTSO for 16.99, the Black and Blue 2005 that was sold for 13.99 at BP, and the 2005 Bourriquot at WL, Michael Havens stood his ground against the bean counters and drove for quality.

That being said, I’m wondering, was the 2006 Havens Napa Merlot in the same style as Havens made where Old and New world are well integrated? I probably should look up and see how other people had rated the other Havens that was sold on Woot.

it takes a hell of a lot of good beer to make great wine!

  • abrams7

Hey, Gary I have been watching your show for a long time. I have come to respect you and what you do with your show. I just wanted to ask you if you have ever had a stawberry wine. An no it's not at all crappy sugar water. I have had alot of complex wines, and stawberry done correctly is extremly complex and wonderful on so many levels. All I'm saying is to try it if you ever get the chance. I telling you it will be a delightful surprise.

  • guymandude

I'm thanking you as well as the others that have thanked you here. The pkg. you sent us for getting Crush-it on day 1 is way more then the price of admission .

Many wished to thank you in person,I'm glad I got the opportunity to.Thanks again.

I love your analogies. They crack me up and they are perfect. Just finished your book on Audio. So glad that I went with the audio version. When you go over script your passion truly comes out.
My statement – Please do an Irish Whiskey Show for St. Patricks Day! Thx!

    GO JETS!

  • Are you coming to this show Gary?

idea for an episode, champagnes which are aged extensively on their lees.
    Bollinger R.D.
    Jacquesson D.T.
    Dom Perignon Oenotheque
tons of non specific aged champagnes from any house you can name

  • bobbytiger

While I regret that you were unable to make the “Tasty Awards” presentation in San Fran, as my son was looking forward to meeting you, (for my sake),
I think you may have opened up a major slot for him, (he was also a presenter of some awards), as he co-presented award winners along with Debi Mazar.
    So, sorry………but thank you.
Keep up the great, energetic work Gary. You are greatly appreciated, and gosh knows you have expanded my wine radar.

  • NY Pete

    does GV really read ALL this stuff … J … E … T … S … Jets Jets Jets!!!

  • Anonymous

Dominic, for my palate it was integrated fairly well. I’m a fan of the 70’s
& 80’s California reds that weren’t so extracted and at, or, below 13.5%
alcohol and this somewhat took me back there. The alcohol is 14.5 but I
didn’t really notice it. I think this has a shot at being a top 10 QPR for
    the year.

  • Bam

Haha funny, I had this Massolino Dolcetto just last night at a Trattoria in NY! The waitress was from the same region, she obviously knew what she was talking about. Went very well with pasta, But also liked it on its own. I was very happy with the wine and thought of Gary. And here is episode 801 today…. with Dolcetto.

  • DCaragher

    Gary –

I love it, “sucks junk…”, you're killing me! Good show, glad to see it turned around from the first wine! Good luck with the Jets, although Rivers is my boy, he crushed it for my fantasy team this year!

QOTD/SOTD (statement of the day): Listen to Strike Anywhere's new album, “Iron Front!” Big shout out to my man Win Rhodes who runs a great wine shop called “South Street and Vine” in Portsmouth, NH, he is recovery from a heart attack, send your best! And…live the music, love the music! PMA!

  • StevenL

Great show- Can't remember ever drinking a Dolcetto. Thanks for the wake up.

  • nickgrzenda

    Hey Gary!
My comment today is on how to better your show. I am an audio engineer and would like to see you make the upgrade to some lavalier mikes (they clip onto your shirt). Not that your show is unwatchable, but it would just add a little polish. It's like a fine wine, remove some of the rough around the edges and add some finesse and polish to the final product. I can see that you've put some dough into nice lighting and such, now it's time to upgrade the sound. This would be especially good when you're out of the office in a noisy setting, it would make it much easier to hear you.

On another note, I would like to see the level of the intro music pulled down a bit. Every time I watch I have to turn the volume down on my speakers for the intro, then back up for the show. Lavalier mikes could potentially help this too by eliminating background noise. Anyway, just my two cents. I love the show Gary, keep it up!

  • sashanyc

Look forward to finding that Aldo Conterno Dolcetto.

“QOTD”: I'm getting married in a week down in Puerto Rico (going sight unseen) and really excited about the 3 day event that is going to change my life.
PS: (on a wine note) Wine bottles are on everyones place cards, and surely many will be drank.

I’m not your usual CKC since I turned the big 50 a couple of months ago.But I am ready to start another semester of viticulture classes. If you need some additional wine to put another tasting together let me know. The VESTA program would probably like the chance to send a wine.

  • Tom

I'm a web developer from Michigan and just wanted to tell you that I'm very impressed with all of the Wine Library TV sites and brands. I know how much work it takes not just to launch a site, but the daily work it takes to keep it running with new content. Great job!

Jets/Chargers prediction: Chargers win 32 to 17 (sorry Gary)

  • CCrosse

Watching for a couple months, first time commenting *hides from the waving fists* ;p

I was just wondering if there has ever been an episode where you talk to someone from the distilling/spirits industry. I think that would be really interesting.

  • Thanks for the welcome, Ron. I’m really enjoying the book and plan to finish it this weekend. Look forward to putting the advice into action.

  • So here I am, just finished watching epi #801. Another great installment of WLTV. I am trying to change my avatar but Disqus won't accent the avatar from a registered Yahoo user. For some reason it doesn't want to show up.

Sadly, GV I think the Jets will be grounded this weekend. Lighting will strike and the Chargers will live to see another weekend of football while the Jets start to dust off the golf clubs. As much as I would like to see the Jets win, my realistic instinct tells me that the score will be:

    SD – 28
    NYJ – 13

  • WilFrancis

Hey Gary, Great show as usual.
Oddly enough I don't actually drink alcohol anymore, I used to, bad times, Haha.
But I still think the show is great, excellent to learn about and understand different wines/grapes/producers and introduce friends and family to them!
Just a quick shout from the UK too! I don't know how many UK Vayniacs there are around, but make sure you come over the sea sometime!
    Cheers!

  • cellarrat5

yes there is. There was a scotch episode a few eps back. they had one of my favorites, Talisker 175th anniversary edition fantastic scotch. Look up the number on the search icon, its worth a watch.

  • cellarrat5

congrats man! always good to escape the winter for relative warmer pastures. good luck with your new life!!

  • cellarrat5

he is only one man… Right???!

  • Zev

Thanks for all the wonderful episodes.
Now that cablevision doesn’t carry foodnetwork my favorite Show is this, and I check out Foodnetwork.com

  • Loved the Dolcetto and Amarone shows. I've been drinking mad amounts of Italian lately, and my trip to SD26 was no different. Had a Primitivo followed by a Sicilian Syrah after hitting up the tasting area for a bit.

Great job and WTG on 800 strong eps; I always thought that variety is the spice of life. Short, quick shows as a base, with splashes of great guests, blind tastings, etc.

  • Oh I read 😉

  • Thnx so much Bobby T

  • Just one and it was great! I agree it can be really serious done right

  • Great call and welcome

  • cellarrat5

Good show. Three levels of Dolcetto's SH***y, decent and delectable. And if those last two are as good as you say they are, that will be my next bevmo purchase. Good length of the show, like many have said before me, nice and tight.

QOTD: I work for a small winery in Lodi, CA. We specialize in Mediterranean and Portuguese varietals. I am very familiar with the wine making process and have been doing pump overs, punch downs, wine additions, barrel filling, tasting room pouring, shipping etc for quite some time. working full time I unfortunately do not get out much. this show has exponentially increased my knowledge and taste for worldly wine. Thank you Gary, I hope you read this one I'm “saying something”.

  • Richie

I know I haven’t tried enough Dolcetto for my own palate. Just wish there was a larger selection of them in MS.

I’d love to see everyone posting on Corkd.com. Just began posting on there a short while ago and have enjoyed reading peoples views about wine. So what do you say, sign up.

  • johncannata

Sadly, I must agree with you. I think SD is the better team in this match-up. Jets looked solid at the start of the season and at the end.. still wondering what happened to the middle. Ultimately, I think SD will win here, and I dont even like SD.

  • Brian Chandler

Chargers all over Jets they are going to lay a big old whoop ass on your Jets! Now that I have burst your bubble, have you or do you taste any Canadian wines in particular wines from Nova Scotia?Just started watching your program via emails, and enjoy your approach and presentation,to the point!Starting to drink more red wine always looking for new wines to try.Give some Nova Scotia wine a try you will enjoy.Brian

  • johncannata

Gary – Its a good idea to ask us to interact more. I'm going to review some comments and reply to a few. You dont typically score a wine so low, and I've seen you dislike quite a few. Its interesting to hear about such a difference from beginning to end with all three wines. Good show. My favorite was #800 with your pops.
