    Ouch.

I've seen his comment here and there. It would take too long to comment to all. Plus, many people say similar things.

nice Gary, way to be on the spot with the return quip!

  • I just consumed the oldest bottle of wine I've ever had yesterday (well, other than a 2oz tasting of an 83 Bordeaux). A 1990 Jacquart Milesime Champagne, and it was awesome. I've definitely gotten very much into sparkling wine in general, but I've mostly been leaning towards Cava because of the value it brings to the table. But obviously I need to treat myself to some older Champagne a little more often. Delicious! I was the flippin' life of the party when I walked in with a magnum of fantastic 1990 Champagne! 😀

Is it possible that the Camerano was slightly, or very corked? Or maybe off? It just sounds strange how bad it you described it. Would of been nice to see you crack open another one to see if it shows differently.

  • Agree, ouch. I don't think Gary would review a Nova Scotia wine on a bet. 🙂

A Lurker I am no longer!

QotD: To be honest I don't watch this show for the wine aspect of it. I don't watch it for the ratings. I watched it my first time just because there was some crazy dude named Gary Vay-ner-chuk licking rocks and eating dirt. After the first episode I realized that it wasn't about the crazy guy eating dirt of potentially chipping a tooth on a rock. It was your passion in this area that made me watch.

Now that I've seen every episode since episode 1, I've grown to like the wine aspect of it and the nerdy-ness about it. Although I'm still only 20 and I can't drink yet, I feel like i have at least a bit of knowledge to start with as i jump into the wine world. I turn 21 October 22nd. You should have me come up! 😛 But in all seriousness, thank you for opening my mind and letting me see that there are millions of forms of passion and keep up the spectacular work that is for sure changing the wine world.

  • Ever meet somebody who's had trouble finding their passion? I've been following you, Tim Ferriss and Kevin Rose (mostly you and more Tim than Kevin) for some time now. I've read Crush It! twice and am currently reading The 4-hour Work Week. I have some internet tech savy, good writing ability, not bad looking, charismatic on camera, but I haven't nailed down the big P. I know a butt-load about the bible (did I say butt-load and bible in the same sentence? I just unnerved myself) but not sure I want to build a business around that. Love wine, microbrews, the Minnesota Vikings (whole family originally from Minnesota, real Vikes are my ancestors) 44-year old wannabe entrepreneur, love life and people and want to crush it hard. Thoughts? Ok, I said something.

  • This was a very interesting show, a bad, an ok and a good one!
You want something? Well I did the first ever episode of my new podcast called my poems.

Enjoy and keep up the good work!

  • I'm new here & started watching at episode 799. My wife likes to drink wine which peaked my interest in learning more about wine. Can anyone suggest a book for beginners? Also, out of the four games this weekend… Jets & Chargers game should be the closest.

  • winejunkie

I spemd more time with you than my wife and I love my wife. Also, your book inspired me to think in ways beyomd wine

  • SueZ.

You dissed my birth year with that 62!!! How about 17………as in Phillip Rivers???? Keep the good info coming GV. I like to know the outstanding vintage years for the different wine regions. Congrats on #800, Max, and (hopefully) a Big Green pasting of the Chargers on Sunday!?!?

  • Great show! Thanks for keeping up the new content and exploring more Italian wines! The Dolcetto is something that is so redonkulously delicious! I will def seek out the Aldo!

Registration for my first class at the college in wine education came out today-nervous and excited at the same time!! But it was because of your truth and caring that inspired me to pursue this passion!!!

i know this movie came out a few years ago but if you havent seen KUNG FU HUSTLE yet its pretty dope.

for me it seems like 90 percent of the movies i see are forgettable but this one was worth mentioning to a friend.

    love the show gary.

    peace!

  • Hey Garry,

My little something to say is that starting today I am getting a full sleeve done of Ralph Steadman's art work that is wine related–I love his style, and how like you, he brings wine back into the realm of us– the people. And takes it from the aristocracy and socialites in general and makes it relevant, accessible, and approachable.

My wife and I went to Napa and Sonoma over the holidays and met Rudolf McClain and his girlfriend Marisol at Artesa winery while doing a tasting. Very cool, because I learned about this cat and his documentary Merlove on your show! I'm a relatively new wine enthusiast (about 2 years) and loving it. Your show is my main source of information because it's so interestingly done. Your desciptions are “off the chain” man!

    Thanks for bringing the THUNDER!

    Frank IV

PS. I'm a jazz musician so I left that website. Check it out if you are into jazz (very simular on the ear as wine but you have to be willing to listen, or taste). We just got nominated for a Grammy! The Michael Thomas Quintet

    Yes, congratulations

  • nickverissimo

I haven't watched the show since late August, mostly because of school, but just watching this reminded me of all the reasons I started enjoying wine in the first place. Hopefully I won't take as long of a break as I just did from the show, but thanks for doing this show. Also, keep rocking that beard I absolutely love it!

  • robbiec

I stopped drinking dolcetto a few years ago. Too many thin, half-assed ones out there. I just don't think it's a very exciting grape. I think it may be like gamay…..90% of the gamay wines are thin and terrible, but the good ones can be very good.

  • Anonymous

Yes! I second that. As an exprofessional musician I have been having the same problem. In episode 800 I could bearly here Sasha while you were quite loud and the intro music rattles my wine bottles.

  • robbiec

Cole…I think that is awesome! It is going to look bad-assed. Any chance of posting a pic in a few weeks?

  • Cool_Dave

Gary — 300+ comments!!!! Lately comments are through the roof. What gives?

  • Cool_Dave

Frank I'm an old school BeBop head. I used to play drums when I lived in Tampa bay. No longer though. I will check out your CD.

  • Cool_Dave

    Ah men to that!

  • Cool_Dave

I took one of those coarses with my wife at the University of Alabama. The instructor was very helpful and down to earth as well as knowlegable. No sweat!

  • robbiec

    Boo…Devils 🙁

  • Cool_Dave

Welcome. A great start is Wikipedia. A great book that is big heavy and nerdy but for me has been a good start is the wine coarse. text book for the CIA. Try Amazon

  • Dude…Gary. Super tight show on this one. Love the feel of it and you really ramp up the explanations of the wines. I think you got me pumped enough about that last one to actually order it haha!

  • We are back!

Hope he gets well soon. Thoughts and prayers.

I had the same experience at my first tasting. I got to 46 wines. I think I could have kept going though. The last wines I tasted afteter a bunch of mediocre Pinot Noirs were two Chateauneuf du Papes. After all that Pino they were awesome!!! Then I wondered if that is why Gary likes them. After 40 wines they still can cut through with the thunder.

    Heh? *scratches head in confusion*

Somone at work actually suggested I try one. Rather drink my own Pee.

Crap! Thats gonna be one hell of a birhtday!!

  • Anonymous

    Which bay? Tampa, Deleware, SanFrancisco?

  • I'm not a wine guy at all, but the description and the price of the last wine you reviewed made me want to try it. Hopefully, I will be able to do that soon. Since I am a beer guy, I've had trouble finding a wine that I like.

  • Corkshack

Congrats on losing your lurker status…lost my status earlier in the week. Don't you feel liberated??

  • Cool_Dave

It will be great having you in the wine world. I would love to be there when you nerd it up arround someone who disssmisses you as just a young guy. You probably already know more about wine than 75 % of the wine buying public.

  • Cool_Dave

I would love to visit the ancestral homeland.

  • JudyYo

I spent the day going to five wineries on a Passport Day. Santa Cruz Mt. area in Ca. It was fun. Came home and watched this segment. A good wine day for sure.
