line of the day – ‘I reckon one day we’re going to have rock juice, because we want minerality in our bodies’

I actually laughed out loud at 17.21 – let’s face it, Gary is a funny guy

Love the Alsatian wines – for the last three years, there’s been an Alsatian wine festival in Booneville, CA. (This year it’s Feb. 20th – see http://www.avwines.com). It was there I learned that Michigan has some killer Alsatian wines – Traverse City area.
WRT to Jets – I feel your pain. But I am still happy for the run we had.

  • I admit, I’m a newb, but I am not a Riesling fan…even posted a Riesling Rant on my blog. http://www.trainingandtannins.com/2009/12/riesling-rant.html if you are interested. But, it is great to see Gary back. Sorry about the Jets.

Justin! I am a Raider fan, too. Are you in Football Therapy, too? Can someone please remove Al Davis?

QotD: Diet Dr. Pepper Vanilla Cherry and Brown Sugar Cinnamon PopTarts…don’t laugh until you try it…better than crack!

  • I don’t know where to begin so this could get long. First off, I love you my man. I have been with you from the beginning and will turn out the lights when we’re done.

I feel your pain but please, not as bad as I in 1969 when as a young child I walked home crying! I have yet to recover from the Jets beating the overwhelming better team Colts except to feel that it must have been a conspiracy to promote the AFL to NFL status and hence, the multibillion industry we have today.

Manning will become the best there ever was, he’s humble and a class act. But if you want to jump on the Saints bandwagon, no problem. I actually like them myself since Nawlins is a great town and a culinary mecca.

Now on to the show. It could not have been more timely. First, I missed you and I am going to my fav restaurant in the DC area this weekend for a cooking demo and their cuisine is Alsatian.

I will def procur some of the Beyer since it really excited you and your palate.

So, I will end my long-winded response with an another “I love you my man” and I feel your pain. But I wish people would appreciate and understand how fortunate we are to experience and watch one of the greatest, if not “the” greatest QB of all time.

    Cheers!

    P.S. Go Colts!!!!!!

Gary I was bummed about the Jets too, they gave me a reason to watch the NFL. Old school type football and they play so hard, just too many physical games finally caught up with them. As far as food/drink combos go, I love Sing Tao beer with Chinese food and Negra Modelo or Bohemia with Mexican. The other night I thoroughly enjoyed a couple of Peroni beers with Calamari and Eggplant Parmesan, a great way to get around overpriced mediocre wine lists or bottles opened for who knows how long served by the glass. Loose tea(specialtea.com) brewed in a french press and transferred to a thermos is what I drink all through the day for many years. Mineral or tap water always works too. My wife drinks a glass or two of Riesling regularly, usually German but I still have a couple of 04 Schoffit that always sings. Forget about the NBA till the playoffs, Australian Open tennis and Dominican League baseball playoffs coming up along with the Winter Olympics and of course the Office is what’s happening.

After reading that, I literally crapped my pants.

i cant stand fat tire from a can. i dont think its in my head, i really think there is a difference there.

I will vouch for Dales Pale Ale. I think it is a great beer that is in a can. they say cans are better at preserving the freshness of the beer because they let in NO light whereas bottles still let light in.

  • thnx GeneV

I recently had a few bottles of really great Hugel Les Amors pinot blanc. In Traverse City, Michigan, I really like Left Foot wine’s pinot blanc also…

  • thank u!

  • SourGrapesFC

I meant it more in a moral sense than their ability to play football. And by “moral” I mean on the football field, not how they are in the rest of their lives.

Well said about the Colts. They seem like a classy organization. You have to feel for Garcon.

  • SourGrapesFC

“Nothing” seems a little extreme. I’d pay five bucks, definitely. I’d probably even pay twenty-five.

  • Another Colts fan. Hip hip 🙂

  • Poor losers. Be thankful the Colts even “allowed” the Jets to be in position to even play for the Super Bowl by pulling all their starters a couple weeks ago!

  • “Moral on the field”? Explain yourself.

  • That was a tough loss. Don’t fret, Peyton will redeem Vikes fans.

  • I will try it if I can find it. “Expand your palate” as Gary says.

  • Agree with you 100%. A great game for Garcon and I thought the tragedy in Haiti was brought to light during a football game to show what is really important in life.

lol, sounds like sound parenting to me. My favorite IPA has gotta be the Dogfish Head 60-minute. I guess that pretty much sums up why I avoid IPA’s that boast of their bitterness units.

  • SourGrapesFC

I really don’t like the Colts. Beyond that, I’m just spurting out a bunch of jibberish. But it’s more fun to pretend that it’s their fault, so: “when I see Manning under center, I experience a moral revulsion similar to that caused by witnessing a gross miscarriage of justice.” That’s probably a bit over-dramatic, but hey, it’s playoff season. Also, it’s fun to razz Colts fans. Hope you lose.

  • Go Colts!!! 🙂

Just FYI, the Epics are a different recipe every year. This years was a dark Belgian, and you’re right, it’s pretty tasty.

  • 🙂 The Ravens spanked your team like a newborn. Bunch of Cheaters

  • SourGrapesFC

Clean shaven is a better look, GV.

  • SourGrapesFC

“Redeem”? Who is he, the illegitimate child of Joe Montana and Jesus Christ?

  • Beeper

Freakin’ Vikings. I feel like Randy Quaid in Major League II…

  • Beeper

Agree, but the camera angles didn’t provide good enough evidence…just needed to make better calls on the field.

Great it’s almost 11 at night an now I have to go to Taco Bell. I should have stoped reading.

    See ya

To StevenL – Laphroaig does hold a very special place in my heart…
To SourGrapes – I loved Balvenie Doublewood!
To Grill (and SourGrapes) – I have not tried Springbank! I’ll have to look into that, someday…thanks!

I like trying them all! I recall thinking that Highland Park 18 from Orkney was very good.

If any ONE player can win a game – it’s Peyton. Still pulling for the Saints and the NFC though.

Gary – its a tough day to see the disappearance of the playoff beard… It has been a heck of a ride for the Jets this postseason!

I'll watch the episode when I get home from work later tonight.

  • Love these type of wines! I make one in 2007, only 100 cases so not a lot of people got to try it. I am bottling my 2008 this month and am very excited about. These style of wines are great for warm weather drinking, usually great noses with nice fruit in the mouth. Love the pineapple, passion fruit, honey dew melon flavors! How about a show on US producers of these style of wines?

  • antony

Been watching American Football for a long time in the UK and, no BS, always thought the Jets had the best uniform… if it's any consolation. And please, no apologies necessary.

  • winecrazy

QOTD: Green Tea……with lemon. Usually with Chinese food but everyday in general and in the morn and night.

  • Andrew D

    Hey Gary

Glad your back. As an Aussie I don't understand your 'football', but I certainly understand your passion. It's so go to see so much enthusiasim.

I love Alsatian wines and would have drunk at least over 50 different Alsace Reislings. I agree that the region is totaly under rated and thus offers some great value.

QOTD: For me a very obvious answer coffee and chocolate. Milky chocolate for milky coffee and intense dark chocolate for strong black coffee. The trick is to have the chocolate just a touch sweeter than the coffee.
