    QOTD: No.

  • jsstraub

QOTD: Yes, at the book signing in Denver

Love the blind tastings. When I first started in wine I would go to a blind tasting about once a month. I think it is the best way to taste wine. That way the wine speaks for itself without being influenced by the label or price.

  • leif

hey, i still love your show.you are right: banyules is made from late harvest, dryed (on the plant) grenache (and some other grapes: carignan, grenache gris, maybe some syrah) but not from rhone valley! its from languedoc/roussillion.
won,t seem as a geek who s searching 4 mistakes, but banyules is one of my fav vines
in the sweet category (cause of its dry finish/and finesse in relation to sherry or port)
Thank s for your show and whole thing the winelibrary would be a reason for travelling overseas… leif from hannover germany

  • QOTD: Absolutely! Got my wife hooked as well. =)

    CBQOTD: @bakiestv

Love the show, Pinot Noir is one of my favorite “varietals”, maybe if I'm using that term right. If not, one of my favorite kinds, haha.

  • leif

no dont get the book yet

  • kkellic

HEY love the show, New fan! I have always had an interest in wine but never new how to begin or what to look for. I am learning from you and appreciate what you do. Thanks.
QOTD: Not yet, but am going to be picking it up.

WhoDat-Noir, I started a wine blog last year to mostly find good value wines under $20, alot under $15, check it out, hope it helps. http://www.winelx.com

  • fljohn

No. just found your show last week I will pick it up soon.
Love the show I agree not having a Burgundy is a bad move must compare to the motherland to get a balance point.

  • Braden G

QOTD – Nope, spent my last $12 on a bottle of Yellowtail 😉

  • Pete

Haven't bought your book and honestly don't think I will.

I have bought a ton of wine from your store and will continue to when I have the need and you have the wine.

  • QOTD: Yes, for kindle.

  • No, but only because I have been unemployed for months with no money. I got my job back this week, so it is one of the first books I'll be buying.

  • Richie

QOTD: Picked it up in Seattle just after new years. I would have bought it alot sooner but I live in Germany so I did not find it here and for some reason I did not want to order it from amazon or somthing like that. But it is a great book. Great job Gary! 😉

  • SacramentoCharlie

Always like the blinds and a Pinot blind especially.

QOTD: You wrote a book ?

  • Lb_in_KS

qotd…No. I was looking for it for xmas, ended up receiving your 101 wines book instead. I needed to be more specific, i guess

  • BuddhaChu

QOTD: Didn't buy either of the two books and don't plan on it.

  • darren28

QOTD : Yes, and loved it. Great job G man.

  • QOTD: No, I haven't.

Ah, you make me want to have some pinot. I have not tried enough of it.

Also, my twitter names are Brently and Corkbutter.

  • Bob

    QotD: Yes

    @bobmc

  • GLrocks

3 days is 3 days not many Pinot Noirs would be able to handle that , however. No comments on oxidation but if it were me……yikes ! Good show as always. California Pinots can be great but most a little pricey and a lot of cheaters (using Syrah or other varietals to improve color and tannin). I like Burgundian pinots personally and tend to the Oregon ones or more “feminine” ones. I never understood the fuss about Kosta Browne a lot of those wines try to be like cabernet…..aggressive, dark and inky

  • WineWoman

Been there done that. But I agree, how can you leave out France ? A nice expensive Burgundian one. Shouldn't have left them sit for 3 days.

  • Just Jack

So right on the Madeira. Gus and Beeper are right there as well. The founders of the republic lived for it. I haven’t read a lot of Jefferson’s thoughts on the subject, but I did a lot of reading from Washington and Madison’s archives in university and both were mad for the stuff. They mentioned it in just about every correspondence having anything to do with business.

What are the ways winemakers can cheat…I know some will use oak chips, some chaptalisation, and I’ve heard people talk about playing with the yeasts…but I’m sure there are many others.

  • smiledoc

yes, of course! who's picking these wines and 3 days open?

  • chicago mark

    no

  • Anonymous

By blending in other varietals with pinot quite common especially when the wine does turn out the way they had hoped. Pinot is tough to make great every year

  • Anonymous

that is unfortunate, about the YT. There are a lot of non-engineered wines in the $12/range…next time take a look at cheap spanish wines. You can find some great monestrell’s, and even some crienza rioja’s that should surprise you. but at that price point, don’t expect an 800 batting avg.

    cheers from up north

  • NY Pete

hey GV, who won the bet?

  • richE

    GV
    It seems only right.
Please to a retest of these Pinot's freshly opened / 3-4 hours decanted.

  • fanbrew

    QOTD: Yes

Your shots look about as good as mine, hence why I talk about sports not play them.

  • themosk

Man, gotta try that Tandem, I bet they will be getting a bunch of hits on their website after your show GV, … I love how you give recognition to lesser known makers like this, well at least I hadn't heard of them, and I live a stone throws away from Sonoma…as far as the Testarossa is a bit more than I'm willing to spend on a Pinot right now

    qotd: yup
Picked up your book when you were at the signing in Corte Madera, CA back in October. My buddies and I are big Vayniacs and were a bit shocked that more of the Nation were not there, I guess it was because the signing may have been advertised as more of an entrepreneur's guide to social media. You called us out for wearing our wristbands, and later that evening a few that were also there to see you asked us what the heck the wristbands meant!

BTW, my twitter name is Fastballosc, oh, and before I forget, I'm following Red Stitch Winery on Twitter who happened to mention you by name back on Nov. 13. You may already know this, but Red Stitch is a startup by ex SF Giant, Rich Aurilia (who happens to be from Brooklyn) and ex-BoSox/SF Giant (and a few others) Dave Roberts and another partner, along with assistance from Rolando Herrera of Mi Sueño Winery. It would cool if you could Aurilia & Roberts on your show or at least try their wine.

  • loontoons

    nope

  • Bobby D

    Yes Ofcourse!

  • jimaharris

    Gary,
Didn't know you had a book.

  • charlzee

Hey GV: You just proved yourself wrong! When you know what your drinking you are biased.
1)You extole otago and willamette but california beat our the others hands down
    2) Price DOES make a difference. Just say you don't want to spend the money and settle for inferior quality. But you yourself PROVED the opposite.
    3) Cork v screw cap…I'm just saying

If you want to prove yourself right, always do double blind and the numbers will realign proving yourself right???

QOTD: No, book is not about wine

  • zman15

    Going back to Cali!

    QOTD: No

  • howardhewitt

My copy of “Crush It” just arrived yesterday. So havent' read it yet. I had planned on buying it, but saw Lewis Howes last week, sports marketer, and he uses your social media experiences in his presenation to college students. (first post) … I'm a bit of a wine blogger, etc ….

  • Mischu

Yes!!!! A Guy from Switzerland. May be important for your country-statistics…;-)

  • royjosephson

well done gary. give us more blind tastings

  • lawschooldrunk

No, I did not buy your book. I don't buy books; I use libraries.

  • Great show Gary. Always love the blind format. Too abd the last pinot is so high in price. Its a varietal that I never buy as I am always searching out something different. But The one I usually look for in a restaurant, and I never find one good there 🙁

QOTD: No I have not. I have your first book though.

I was at a book store two weeks ago and was going to look for it but got distracted by my 3 year old and the thomas the train table. Oh and ex nfl star Eddie George and his son coming in and playing with my son. Pretty neat.

I think I will check it out though. I really would rather do the audio book. It sounds like it would be fun , as much as I have heard you go off script 🙂 haha

    Jason

  • DaveAll

Waiting for the paperback. on half.com (cheap, but loyal)

wow. never had a Pinot that had been opened for 3 days. Seems like not the wine for that.

  • allanj

Gary will comment on all episodes, starting with number one now! This will be an epic journey…

  • DJC77

Hey man, where's our month of sparkling wine? The rest of February would be perfect (short month). Kick it off with Bugey Cerdon (100% Gamay, and ridiculous sexy). Bring it GV!!

  • Nope did not by your book, until last month I did not even know you were around?

    Sorry

Cool! Thanks for the help. I was getting s little disapointed with
    my experiments.
I am a newbie and have as yet to try a red bordaux. Had a white but
not a red. I have a Nebiolo that is supposed to be pretty tannic. I
also have a Puygueraud 2003 that I want to pop. Maybe that will be my
    next decanting experiment.

Sent from my NSA brain implant.

The bags covering the bottles are easily cleaned up. Please just cut a neckline either scoop, or v-neck on the closed end of the bag. Then size up the length like a floor length “dress” then cut the bag. Slip the bag over the bottle. These can be reused for other tastings. The person setting up the tasting can also participate by numbering the bags before then placing them in a pile and shuffling like cards. Slipping them over the bottle randomly and not knowing what # is on them.

  • Yes I did buy Crush It! It was the first book I bought on my B&N Nook about ten days ago. I ripped through it in two days and immediately began interlinking and enhancing my existing social media efforts to flog my BBQ love. I've already gotten 75 fans on my FB page in six days and my WordPress blog is lighting up thanks to Ping.fm blasts to Twitter, FB, my old Blogger blog and my main static website.
