  • My maaaaaannnnnnnnn! πŸ™‚ I come home early from work to beat the blizzard, sit down with a nice Falanghina and my man comes up with a prediction on the SB that leaves me speechless!

On to the show. I like the red dessert wines and here is one that I tried and found absolutely amazing and so chocolaty. And from Uruguay no less. Your face tasting the second one was priceless! It looked like someone knocked you over the head with an alcohol bat.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/27/AR2008052700758.html

As for the Super Bowl, yes, you can throw on the Colts. They have three DBs out, bend like rubber but don’t break and Brees and their WRs scare the bejeebees out of me. To me, it’s a “feel good” SB since there’s no one you really dislike. A great city who has seen the worst of times and is making it’s way back and a classy/humble organization run by my “other” hero. If the Saints win, I will give them kudos and be happy for them. Hopefully, that won’t happen. πŸ™‚

Final score (I predicted the Jets on the nose if someone wants to check the comments section):

    Colts: 37 Saints: 34 (OT)

P.S. I was hoping you would wear my gift to you but knew you couldn’t do it. πŸ™‚

    GO COLTS!!!!

  • OK, I guess I have to retype my first comment to the best of my feeble memory since it is being “reviewed” at this time so I apologize if this is repeated.

My maaaaaaannnnnn! I come home from work early ahead of the blizzard and sit down with a nice Falanghina and I can’t believe my ears! You pick the Colts to win, wow.

Good show on some nice dessert wines. Here is one I tried and is very good with that chocolaty flavor. From Uruguay of all places! The expression on your face on the 2nd wine was priceless. Looked like you got hit over the head with an alcohol bat!

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/27/AR2008052700758.html

Yes, the Colts can be thrown on. They have, what, 3 starting DBs hurt (no excuses) and they bend like rubber but don’t break. Brees and his WR corp scare the bejeebees out of me so they will make it close, fun and exciting. A “feel good” Super Bowl IMHO no matter who wins. I just hope for a good game.

Final score: Colts 37 Saints: 34 (OT)

    Go Colts

P.S. Hoping you would wear my gift to you but not surprised you didn’t. πŸ™‚

Good Show, Nice way to end the Week with something Sweet!

    Let's Go SAINT'S!!!!

  • ChrisBroholm

    Very nice sir!

  • No question of the day? Its all good thought. From the end of the show I would say the question of the day is who is going to win the Super Bowl.

Of course it's going to be the Colts. Even with all of the injuries that have come about Manning will not be able to be stopped on Sunday.
    Colts 38 Saints 24

Nice quick show though by the way and I always love when Mott gives his input in on the wines. I'm still pulling for an “ALL MOTT” episode!! Whose with me?

  • Just Jack

Love it. I’ve been living in the desert too long and I miss it.

  • Just had to be top 10. I shall now watch the episode πŸ™‚

    top 10?

  • Too bad the Friday wines didn't perform that well, but keep telling the nation what they'll be on Monday. It would be fun to taste along.

  • SourGrapesFC

That was a great finish. Gary dropped so fast he didn't even remember the QOTD (unless we count the Mott question).

I'm going to hope for the Saints (New Orleans needs something good about now) 28-24 over the Colts.

    Macho Man:Hulk Hogan::Batman:Superman

  • Question of the day? What do you think of Snow? 1st thought? Pls pass this on and repeat to peeps as this will get lower and lower

  • Nice work Matty!

  • Hate snow. Give me the sun and the beach.

  • Steve_T

qotd: I love snow, I think it is beautiful. That being said, I hate traveling in it.

  • zrm

I really like ports so seeing some red dessert wines is nice. Seeing a 750 dessert wine is pretty cool. Nice value play. Good if you were making a big dinner party trying to save a little so you can buy nice chocolate for the dessert. Solid.

Sorry to see you got a little down there at the end.

QOD? didn't see you say it but I will assume that the implicit question is super bowl predictions.- Colts 41 Saints 27

  • drt999

Macho Man > Hogan? For me, George Steele > Mancho Man!

Have to admit I've only had one Banyuls, and liked it, but I've rarely seen it in wine stores.

    Go Saints!

  • bfr1028

    Its Too Cold!

  • Hmmm, my first long-winded comment has to pass the “Review Board”? Please

  • Edward Salonia

I hope we don't get too much.

  • SourGrapesFC

I like snow if the weather's cold enough that it doesn't melt. I hate snow when it's 33F outside and the whole world's a slush-ball.

GV's (later) QOTD Question of the day? What do you think of Snow?

    Al Snow?

Oh, that stuff — It was bearable in small amounts when I lived in places that had lots of plows and salt trucks, and you could buy studded winter tires (various locales in PA & NY). Here in NC, it's annoying as everything has to get shut down when there's small amounts of ice or snow. Once a winter is ok, 3x (so far) is just annoying

Getting tempted to find some tire chains on e-bay. but I'd probably get arrested!

  • QOTD:Snow, been here since week before christmas. 2Β½ feet now. – 6 Celcius at the moment. White hard and cold. Grew up in snow country but haven't had this kind of winter in 15 years. Like it and not

Banyul is a great type. Red sweet wines that suit my hobby, chocolate tasting. Maury is also a red that have the same character, and Muscadel, and … and so on. And that was young wines Gary tried.

  • NC_Carl

Summer > Snow, but lends itself better to heavy reds…

  • drt999

I understand your point of view, but I still have to say, “Go Saints!”

  • zman15

Like the dessert wine topic. Would like to see another show with a more variety. Maybe a little showdown action between regions.

QOTD: What do you think of snow?
Love it. Big time snowboarder so would love more of the fluffy stuff.

  • hamlet

It is funny that you scored better domaine de la Casa Blanca against Rectorie, taking into consideration that the latter is one of the leading estates in Banyuls. But I agree, I also think the same, and so does many other French unorthodox wine reviewers. That is why I like your show. Something else: Domaine de la Casa Blanca also makes a wanderful Colliure, which is also Grenache based but not fortified. And off topic: the vigneron at Casa Blanca went to the same school in Bruxelles where my son is going right now (I visited him last summer, thatΓΉs why I know)….So, greetings from Belgium and from the fans you have over here (myself included).

  • jayhitek

Love chocolate. Chocolate cake takes a back seat to other chocolate deserts though. You cover a pretzel in chocolate and I am in love. But nothing beats just straight up semi sweet chocolate chips.
QOTD: none? Did I miss it?
    Go Saints!
Hey.. How can Macho Man be greater than Hulk Hogan?? That's like wrestling blasphemy.

  • Vineares

    aaww poor gary…

    QOTD : I don't follow football and I probably won't even watch the superbowl…but I'll just go ahead and guess Saints 47 : 32

  • As does my “repeat” comment. I'm guessing when they reach x-number of characters they have to be reviewed. πŸ™

  • bfr1028

Is there a limit? Maybe they dont like you? πŸ™‚

  • Love the idea of more desert wine episodes…maybe for the next anniversary show you can bring out the big Port guns.

    HATE snow…hate under 60 degrees.

  • lawschooldrunk

Gary, I LOVED that deadpan ending!!!

    And no QOTD!!!

Guess you asked Mott the QOTD so here's my answer: Hulu will beat budweiser 50 chuckles to 2.

  • adrums

Delectable show. I just picked up a few bottles of the Chapoutier Banyuls in 500 ml, for 20 bones apiece. Seems like a sweet deal (so to speak).
QOTD: Snow can be quite beautiful, and everyone should enjoy an excuse to stay home from time to time. Out here in the Pacific NW, they do a god-awful job of snow removal though, so a big storm can be pretty debilitating for days.

  • lawschooldrunk

OH. The QOTD is what we think of snow.

When it gets me out of school and work, i love it. When it stops me from doing something I have to or want to do, I hate it. And my area is expecting between 20-30 inches this weekend!

  • adrums

Oh, and yeah the Colts will win, Dan Dierdorf will be smooching Peyton's tush the entire time, and I'll be supremely annoyed.

  • ChicagoMatt

Great ending. Bitter Gary showed up, but it was funny.

    Go Colts!
