  • I'm assuming it's both.

  • castello

    Major Mott fan here.

  • castello

G! Don't let football ruin or run your life. Drink the damn wine.
I used to like snow when I liked skiing. Now I'm too out of shape for skiing so it is more like work than fun. Maybe on a spring day when the bikinis come out.

  • yacoub

Great ending, especially Nicolai Volkoff or whoever that was who got KO'd at the end πŸ˜€

QOTD: Score prediction: Colts over Saints 42:38

  • yacoub

I liked snow more as a kid, when it meant school was closed. Now, it's just a nuisance unless on vacation or working from home – then it can be enjoyed like a kid again πŸ™‚

  • Grill Factor

Good show GV, definitely going to try to pick up some Banyuls for St. V day!

  • A dumb Rhein king

Now it appears as though I am the first … king of the hill!!

  • ChrisNY2

QOTD: I like snow for the most part…except when plans have to be cancelled because of it…but waking up in the morning, looking out the window and seeing a winter wonderland is a pretty sight. Just don't eat the yellow snow kids!

  • A dumb Rhein king

Dude. I flippin love the snow. The only time it sucks is if you have a serious need to get medical attention or for driving on anything other than back roads (which is only fun if you have a rear wheel drive truck). I am totally jealous of the two flippin feet that peeps on the East coast are getting … yes, I would take it here if I could.

  • JayZee13

Interesting show – I've never had a Banyuls. My wife and I love dark chocolate and we usually pair it up with a Ruby Port of some sort, but I am intrigued by the description of Banyuls and I need to seek it out.

QOTD” Huh? No QOTD? What gives? Maybe it was really the Super Bowl prediction. So I will go with Colts 34, Saints 28

  • Richie

I have never been able to get around red dessert wines. Just haven't liked them so far. I have not had many though.

  • theslats

QOTD: I love snow, and I better. Average snow storm where I choose to live is measured in 10's of inches and we get them often πŸ™‚

A big snow storm is a great excuse to be lazy and drink to much.

  • Never had a Banyuls…going to have to pick one up since I LOVE chocolate. I'm pulling for the Saints, thought statistically it looks different.

QOTD: I don't mind snow as much since moving to the city. Not driving in it and not shoveling can totally change your mindset.

  • Good Show, Banyuls sounds great right about now.

QOTD: Did I miss the question or was there not one today?

  • DFbwp

Love Belgium, esp. Antwerp. Someday will get back there.

  • DFbwp

QOTD: Snow is good on the weekends. Let it melt by Sunday evening so we can go to work the next day without sliding away. Signed, Lightweight from NC

  • cellarrat5

No, you did not miss it. Unless we both did. Perhaps he asked it on another forum or twitter? Someone help me out here.

    REPOST From Gary VEE::::*****************

Question of the day? What do you think of Snow? 1st thought? Pls pass this on and repeat to peeps as this will get lower and lower

  • CBQOTD: Ok, not really a question more a math equation… to which I agree… Oh YEAHH!

Like the new WTLV sticker on the helmet btw.

  • cellarrat5

Belgium beer is some of the best in the world. My favorite country I have been to in Europe so far. Props to you and your country sir.

  • guymandude

    That was good,nice ending.

  • guymandude

    Scroll down, about snow.

talk about it all you want but … whatever happened to laid back Fridays?

  • bfr1028

    A thing from the past

  • DaveyJohnson

I dont think I got the chef/CEO comparison. What wine was the CEO?

  • cellarrat5

I probably should have read the comments before I flipped out over no QOTD, sorry. I really am beginning to enjoy desert wine; particularly Ports, both tawny and ruby. But they MUST be made with Portuguese varietals otherwise they are not “Ports” both literally and figuratively.

QOTD: I love snow. Being from CA, and not being a snowboarder or skier I do not see it very much. There is nothing better than a freshly fallen shroud of snow to remind one of new beginnings or stir fond memories of sledding skiing or building snowmen. Dessert wine and snow also go hand in hand!

  • bfr1028

    So does maple syrup πŸ™‚

  • cellarrat5

I just realized my CA naivety, I am sure snow can be a royal pain in the ass for a lot of people on the east coast. All my relatives are back there, I should have though a little harder. But I am sticking with my original post of still loving snow, but I do feel for all the people that are deterred from plans and moving at all from time to time

  • NY Pete

    WTF GV … GO SAINTS.

  • jason carey

Both of these are Vintage Banuyls. What about the real rancio old school stuff? Cumon.. lets explore a little more deeply

  • ONUMello

Can't wait for the Laid-Back Friday couch to make its grand return!
My prediction, lacking a real QOTD, is Saints upset the Colts, 33-31.

  • LeatherHelmet

    Great Show GV!

  • Michael D

Moved from Michigan to Arizona to escape the snow and don’t miss it at all.

  • KnightWKNF

Love Red sweets very few and far between. One of my favorites is a sweet Dornfelder from Germany nice and complex with lots of body. I have an inkling that the Saints are going to be able to pull this game off. I think it would say a lot about the Jets if the Saints win the game, I mean come on loosing to the Super Bowl Champions with a rookie a QB. Regardless it should be a good game.

  • BFR1028

I here that Hawaii is nice this time of year and you can still seek out snow there as well.

Time to exit my lurker status that I've had for the past 2 years…..

I have never been able to get into red dessert wines…..I don't know if I've had crappy ones, but I find them waaaay too hot. Maybe I'll give the Banyuls' a shot.

As far as the Super Bowl…as much as I'd like to see the Saints win, I think Peyton Manning is just too good. The guy is like a surgeon out there. Colts win it.

  • alexkeywest

The first time I had a Banyul was when my girlfriend flew me to Prais for the weekend and put us up in the George 5. She treated me to dinner at Talliavent and our desert wine was a Banyul recommended by the sommilier. Nevr had it before…unreal

  • NIB

Very interesting. I have not tried any Banyul's,but I really love ports and Tokaj's.Definitely going to have to give Banyul a try.

Colts 38 Saints 21-Although I gotta say I am rooting for the Saints. But after watching them pretty much loose to my team, the Vikes (if it wasn't for 5 turnovers) I just don't think they can pull it off.Cheer up Gary, at least your team didn't give the game away like the Vikes.I'm not sure I'll ever be the same…..lol

  • howitzer

That may have been my favorite “You, with a little bit of me, we're changing the wine world” ending I have seen since I started watching the show…
Snow? I moved from Minnesota/North Dakota to Florida/Georgia to get away from the snow! Snow will always be there if you want to to visit….I'll take Golf in December!

  • robrx

Loved the banyuls episode. Truly one for the wine geeks, Banyuls is about as obscure a wine as there is within the French AOC. Give the Domaine du Mas Blanc some time and air and it will be the better wine. It has more “stuff”.

QOTD-I am going with the Saints and their New Orleans voodoo mojo!

    Saints-28 Colts 21

  • CBone

The little bottles in the “wine tasted in this episode” are the wring color! And no QOTD either…

So, anyhow, what's up? Good episode, I thought. DC is getting some major snow tonight, so that's cool. I'm having a 2007 Toluca Lane Pinot from Oregon tonight, which is pretty nice for a 2007. I swear it tastes like a Burgundy. Soil, dried meat, raspberries. Good stuff.

    Alright. Talk to you later.
    CBone!

  • Cellarrat, thanks for the kind words earlier this afternoon. Texas still has a long way to go, but Fredericksburg seems to have started to figure a thing or two out about wine production. Here in El Paso, we’re still happy that the rest of the World figured it out a long time ago. Cheers!

  • Lyman

I'm surprised your dad didn't get in on the Banyuls. He enjoys the Amarone so much and Banyul is so close to the same flavor profile that I thought for sure he'd be there. It is quite amazing that the price is so amazingly cheap for what you get that I'm often surprised more peeps don't know about it, especially those who love Amarone. QUESTION OF THE DAY! When was the last time you had a red desert wine that wasn't a sparkler and what was it?

  • I am new here, what is the fastest way to log in???? First I ever heard of a red dessert wine that was not a port, interesting

  • plcb

QOTD: Snow is pretty but I don't like when I have to drive in it.

  • lordsauvignon

  • lordsauvignon

    Interesting analogy…QOTD?

Superbowl…no predictions, I'm just going to enjoy the game.

  • kwilk

I've never had Banyuls as a wine before, but Banyuls vinegar is by FAR far far far FAR my favorite vinegar EVARRRR.

  • Just Jack

Good show. The energy petered out pretty quickly and it was shaping up to be meh, but the Mottster comes through big time and saved the day. The tiramisu tasting note hit it out of the park. He was chatty about the different chocolate flavors and which one he likes. Also he made the connection to the Cotto which I certainly wouldn't have been able to do. Great job Mott.

My QOTD to Gary: If Macho Man > Hulk Hogan, why did the Hulkster have to save Randy from the Hart Foundation? Miss Elizabeth knew who to run to for help.
