line of the day – ‘The Vanilla Villain might have to make an appearance’

Didn’t think I was going to like this guest but he turned out knowledgeable and passionate…and did a good job trying to market obviously overpriced wines

  • Hahaha, no, I got ya. After “The Episode”, Helen and I have actually talked quite a bit and become friends (I was actually bashing her, and I felt bad, so I reached out and got the full story.) She definitely more than made up for it in her interview with 1WineDude http://bit.ly/6UuW1H

That would be something I would like to try. I have had a few NY Gerwerts that I really enjoyed. But would the delectable tropical fruit come through, that would be my only concern. Cornell is a good school; my Cousin went there to study Veterinary medicine. It has a good Vit and Enology program too if I am not mistaken.

  • I had been following Jason’s posts a bit because my story is shockingly parallel to his. I am also 23, just graduated, pursuing my passion for wine as a cellar rat at a Pennsylvania winery (Blair Vineyards). PA is a tough place to make wine; not only are the laws ridiculous, but often the demographic, especially in the more rural areas, aren’t looking for dry vinifera, they want sweet syrupy hybrids. The terroir has such potential, though! Keep trying PA wine, everyone!!
(We are smaller than Penn’s Woods right now, but building a BRAND NEW 9000 sq. ft. winery right off of Rt. 78, opening in April)

I have a LOT of thoughts on Pennsylvania wine. I just started writing about it once a week at thegrandcrew.org if anyone is interested.

Jason: if you read these at all, I’d love to hear more about your experience, and your boss’s enological philosophy.

QOTD: that you got Gary to let you on the show. congrats. Spread the word about Pennsylvania!

  • Alright guys, I gotta go have dinner with my girlfriend. I can easily see how Gary gets obsessed with comments, and responding to commenters (LURKERS! Come on out!). I will be back on later tonight and will try to respond to as many people as possible. You can also email me at [email protected], follow me on twitter @pennswoodswine, or check us out on facebook (/Pennwoodswinery) if you want more info about our wines. I will definitely ask the big guy, Gino, my boss, if I can get a special Vayniac discount if people would like to order some wine!

  • ‘Merloner’…well played. Agreed on NY Ries and Gewurz. We miss touring all of the NY wine regions, specifically for that reason. NY has also been making Cab Franc shine a bit. Cheers!

Youtube has a lot of the Oz show, TX! You tube video sucks compared to whatever Gary uses, Viddler I guess. Maybe BBC has a better feed.
