Stonking episode…GV at his best. What a view from his NY apartment and a glimpse of Micha. But the highlight for me was the surprise at 2.55…I’m still laughing about it now.

Awesome show GV. Love the hometown snow day feel to that one, almost can feel the numbness here in CA! Don?t worry about the blend mix up, I will not tell a soul!

QOTD: If it actually did snow today in the Valley I would bust out the Glenmoorangie Signet, some of the best scotch I have tried in my life. A single vat of 16 plus years of their select stuff. They roasted the barley like they do with Guinness to get a delectable coffee esqu, caramel, hazelnut flavor; malty smoothness to the mid palate and the finish lasts forever. I can still taste the last glass I had and it was over 3 months ago!

  • johnfarrin

Forgot to say that your production costs go way up when you tape from home πŸ™‚ Two older Bordeaux?

  • Grill Factor

GV free-pouring all over the place!

+1 on the comments about Bordeaux. I had my first Bordeaux a few weeks ago with a bottle of '05 and a bottle of '07. I was struck by the smoothness and drinkability especially as compared to the fruit bombs I usually drink here in Australia.

QOTD: Coffee with a little SSSambuca…

  • Gotta love it… the Boys watching Misha, cartoons on and she's in a crawler… CLASSIC!!!

Nice wines… will look for the Pape…

QOTD: Well, here in SoCal, no snow, but when it's cold, a nice bold Cab or Bordeaux always hits the spot in the backyard with the fireplace going…

  • slave2thevine

QOTD: When I'm snowed in up here in Maine I often like to pull out something that I have not tried yet…usually something I'm excited to try to help pass the time. Two weeks and I can drink again….I can not wait.

  • allanj

    Hello my good friend… I'm awake now! ; )

  • johncannata

Looks like you did taste the wine twice. Had to go back and see it again. Texas is experiencing a snow day today. Usually it is gone within 24 hours, but this looks like it will stick around a little longer.

  • Sort of wish the Christmas lights were on.
Yes, you poured the wrong one. I wondered about that πŸ™‚
    Love the snow show!
QOTD: I love a cold Guiness, thanks for asking.

  • vankula

Totally agree on the drinkability of Bordeaux. So classic and balanced (especially with those big dogs)…I love it.
    QOTD: Absinthe. Oh and Bordeaux.

  • QOTD. Don't get much snow in South Florida. We were quite close early Jan this year. Bordeaux probably comes close if I have to think about it.

Love the Mish shots! You are a lucky man!

    Hey Allan,

1983 Pinchon de la Comtesse is where I first realized that maybe Parker's palate and mine were not totally in sinc. He rated it 93. At the time (1985) of it's release you could buy it for $22/bottle. I bought a case. It was the most rollercoaster wine that I have ever tasted numerous bottles of over time. Some gave you hope that it might evolve into something really nice and the next year when you would have another bottle it would be less than Meh.
Parker, throughout the years has always favored it and given it great scores. I, personally, would never spend the money that those scores have allowed it to command.

  • My wine πŸ™‚ Lalande. I save that label, got 3 2001 in my cellar amongst a couple of other vintages, having at least one 2001 next year (the wine turening 10, me!)
Yes you did pour the clemet again
Tasting the wines at room temperature today? Lol!
QOTD: Snowy day, GlΓΆgg, a swedish spinn off a hot wine punch. Often flavourd with some sort of spirits (rum, vodka, port, whiskey) and a lot of ginger, cinnamon, vanilla

  • tcatjo

No snow in Texas EVER! It would be a big boy red if it ever happened. Misha is gorgeous, she has grown so much. I love the smile she gave her Daddy when you started talking to her.

  • Little Mish is an absolute doll! Thank you for inviting us into your home on this Down Home Snow Show. I love these shows and you brought out the big boys!

Nice to see the 'deauxs showing well which should give me inspiration to open up my baby cellar and pull out some old Ducru Beaucaillou.

QOTD: Since I have been trying to kick this cold and shoveling 3' of snow I have not consumed much wine but tonight you have inspired me to uncork an '05 Reignac to go with my ribeye.

Cheers and thanks again for allowing us to be a part of your “family.”

  • Steve_T

qotd: hot cocoa if I'm loving the weather, crisp whites if I'm wishing it was summer.

  • Two weeks?

  • A_S

Fun show in the snow Gary:)
Are you gonna fire up the barbecue tonight?

    QOTD: A nice espresso

i was in class and working today!!!!!!

  • Aleksandar Damnjanovic

I always love to see the episode about Bordeaux wines. I have lot of respect for old world wines, maybe because i live in it. Great balcony view by the way. When the winter kicks in i drink domestic wine from Negotin region in Serbia. It may not be Bordeaux but its bringing a thunder. We are steel under the radar, but in the last couple of years some interesting wines are amergin. From Belgrade with love! ?IVEO MI?A!

  • lawschooldrunk

Great show, Gary. Love the setting and laid-back-ness.

Yeah, you did pour from the first bottle for your intended second glass of the second bottle.

I love the spit bucket! But red snow balls are gross.

QOTD: A heavily sherried or really peaty Single Malt Scotch.

  • allanj

You've got a point, and i agree with you. The prices have gone through the roof….

Actually the paulliac i had a couple of days back was 170 DKK. that will probably be about 25-30 bones in the US, and to be honest, i've tasted a boatload of what the critics will call top bordeaux, and if my memory serves me well, i will say this: “Not much of a difference”.
    Only the price.

  • Cool_Dave

Thanks man!!! What are you gonna' havie if the snow comes? If it hasn't already.

  • Nothing really different when it is snowing, but my Boss who lives in Germany says when he goes sking in the Alps, at the rest spots down the slopes will warm different wines and serve them to the skiers. He said they were not hot, just warm. That being said there is snow on the ground here in Michigan and I'm having a nice 2010 Diet Pepsi ( I have opened the Merlot, but it has to sit for a while). Have an Air Force day!

  • nickcaruth

great show. I think you should do the laid back home environment more often

qotd – hot chocolate without question

  • year round

  • lawschooldrunk

AJ was probably surfing the web, not working! πŸ˜‰

  • Great show. Love the snow episodes.

QotD: Irish Whiskey (if we have any), otherwise coffee/tea, if it's the evening – a hearty red.

  • yacoub

Noticed the audio problems occurred whenever there was a graphical overlay, so probably an encoding issue?

  • Drinking in the snow is always a great experience. I have to admit its usually beer and not Bordeaux but I would imagine its the same concept.

QOTD – My favorite drink in the snow is hot chocolate. It reminds me of being home from school on a snow day as a kid.

  • Why two weeks? Self-imposed or health-imposed?

  • allanj

The snow came on dec 17th in Denmark, and hasn't let go since… i have had enough. Where is global warming when you need it? ; )

Gonna have a blind tasting with a friend this weekend. Pumped for that. He brings two bottles for me, and i two for him. Will be exciting to see what happens…. Will review what i had on sunday. See ya!

  • DmitriEn

    Great show!

QOTD: Jagermeister is great for such occasion.

  • allanj

Yeah why does he do that.?

  • corkscrew

Gary, yes you did pour the Clement like you thought! Th only problem with the remote tastings is it sounded like chipmunks a couple times with the audio. From the looks of the surroundings I will guess you live in lower manhattan..nice size patio. I agree that a good aged wine is very drinkable, had a 2000 Stag's Leap Cask 23 during the Super Bowl and it was fantastic. Have a few Bordeaux in the cellar, they need to sit a few more years. QOTD Baileys and hot chocolate. http://www.winelx.com

  • Lb_in_KS

qotd…imma hot cocoa w/little marshmallows guy on a snowy day

  • kbartj

Gary: Being from Louisiana, I have to tell you….”Snuax” got sadly misspelled. It should be “Sneaux”……..Like “GEAUX SAINTS!!!” Great show. Love the view.

  • adrums

Great show; fun to see the digs and the little one.
QOTD: On snowy days I like to assemble my own home made blends of non-vintage Bordeaux… haha! just kidding, definitely done that before myself.
Seriously: rich hot cocoa, Port, or Napa Cab.

  • b777capt

Fun show GV. I wish I had a few older Bordeaux sitting around right now.

QOTD: My favorite snow day drink is an Irish coffee made with Jameson's, raw cane sugar and heavy cream.

  • a short but great episode – I think because of it's cold outside sitting and tasting in the snow πŸ™‚

  • RANDINTHECITY

    GARY!!!!
    MISHA!!
    AJ!

    Haha..love the snow shows…
    Misha is a cutie pie!!!
    Youre blessed.
    xo
    :o)

  • carlo10

congrats allanj…you beat me. dang it!

  • Awesome setting for a show, it was a mesmerizing background (nice place BTW). I agree with you GaryVee about Bordeaux, they are my favorite hands down and have this special 'tinge' that wakes up a palate.

QOTD: We don't get snow around these parts, only every 60 years or so. I've been in snowy places while travelling however, and while there it was schnapps, jagermeister, tequila, damiana, cinar, averna… and red wine.

-does anyone else get a slight hiccup in the audio? I counted three.

  • SouthernBrewDude

QOTD: Snow? I'm sorry, we don't get much of that down here on the coast of SC.

But when it's cold, it's gotta be Barely Wine. Specifically that '89 Thomas Hardy's I've got cellaring right now.

  • sorry about the audio πŸ™

  • very

  • sacramentocharlie

    Love the BDX show.
And ya gotta loverthe Exersaucer for the little ones.

QOTD: What is this snow you speak of ?

  • bfr1028

    Great show MR V…!!!!! πŸ™‚

  • XpensiveWino

BTW..Mia is adorable! Thank God she looks like her mother! It's amazing how fast they grow up isn't it? I'm sure she was sitting there thinking, hmmm…why's Daddy spiting all over the table & floor? I get in trouble when I do that!!

  • allanj

Yeah! how many miles was it? Alot! ; o )

  • the fun is that it is still snowing into the glass full of good wine πŸ™‚
