Stonking episode…GV at his best. What a view from his NY apartment and a glimpse of Micha. But the highlight for me was the surprise at 2.55…I’m still laughing about it now.

Hello Mr. Pres…. How's the head?
    Better hopefully.

  • alienrelic

    QOTD: Rumple Minze Peppermint Schnapps.

  • I haven't watched for almost 5 days and I was really feeling something missing in my schedule haha! sad? Great episode to come back too, love the snow! Also good to hear how these wines are considering they aren't anywhere in my future buys, but that's ok

  • ProfessorB

Great show. The AWWW factor was off the charts at the end. QOTD- If it's wine, I'd say a Barolo or Barbaresco. Couldn't tell you why really, maybe it's the big flavors together with complexity and the fact that they tend to evolve so much in the glass over the course of an evening. My favorites though are single malt scotch with Dad or vintage port by the fire with the wife. Being snowed is a good excuse to spend some quality time, something I tend not to do enough of otherwise.

  • wayno da wino

Yo G , MISHEEEEE IS A CUTIE & those were some NIIIIIIIIIIIICE VINOS !!!!!!!!

qotd: Back when I lived in Northeastern Ohio, Hot Coffee was me favorite drink
    on a Cold, Snowy Day…..

  • QOTD – Hot chocolate with REAL marshmallow (not the dehydrated ones) or if I'm trying to reminisce about college a hot scotchie

  • Did I see Christmas lights in the background still up in Feb? That's Ghetto!… j/k … great show. Love the snow, that's keepin it real.

Yo Gary! I really like what I'm seeing with all your ventures coming out. Looking forward to March. The weather looks amazing. I'm heading up to Big Bear (A ski mountain in California) this weekend. I purchased some 06 Bourdeux for a snow tasting.

QOTD: The Macallan Scotch. Cask Strength.

  • alienrelic

I noticed that too. Violation of the February 1st rule….

  • You know! … Feb 1st rule LOL

  • Cool show Gary, both wines looked delicious. There is definitely something to a good Bordeaux that can be hard to quantify, but you just know your palate jumps for joy when you drink them. I'm getting to the last of my '00 Leoville Barton and am still loving it.

QOTD: Snow in San Diego? Don't have to worry about it!

  • wyotim

QOTD: Williams Pear Brandy (the one with the pear in the bottle) we used to bury a bottle on the mountain at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort – that stuff will never freeze and it will surly warm you up ๐Ÿ™‚

  • carlo10

    not just you

  • ericov

Hi GV, long time Lurker here.
QOTD: Anything hot in front of a fire; irish coffee, bailey's, schnapps, etc…
Love this time of year, I take my 9 year old to ski lessons every Friday night (Snoqualmie pass east of Seattle). After helping out with the class for awhile “Powder Pigs”, I retreat to the “Pig Pen” with other adults, where we each pull out a bottle of wine, kick back and enjoy with assorted meats and cheeses. Great time!

  • Yo Gary, have your tried any of the New Mexico beauties from the Wines of the San Juan? http://bit.ly/ajeoLD

  • guymandude

Wow, that's a instant classic there, put this one in the right hand column.

    qotd; Port

  • allanj

Gary i have a suggestion for a future show… Guest: Oz Clarke & some vino.

  • Best thing on a snowy day. A nice warm red wine or a bit of homemade Kahlua and coffee.

  • Greg B.

Big G, Great show. Family and Bordeaux. Just the way we like it.

QOTD: Big red or Craft Brew.

  • This is a classic flip cam episode!! Misha is just a doll, you are so lucky to have such a great family…that is so important.

QOTD: I will be honest, when I get in from shoveling I like to pour myself a nice scotch.

  • allanj

I'm sorry, but i think you have drunk your Leoville bottles too young. Just sayin'. ; )

  • Nice show… Misha is a doll. Congrats!

  • Daria Kushmelyn

I too like hot chocolate on a snowy day – not a wine show answer, but it's the truth. I loved this snow show. You actually made my least favourite weather condition look appealing. The steamy lens and the wine glass full of water droplets on it…such a pretty scene.

    Daria K in Toronto

  • Ivan Perez

    Great show!!!

But the wine wasn't to cold to taste it?

    Saludos from Mexico!

  • hahaha… that's funny! Lady Gaga…

  • QOTD: Here in WA State we don't own shuffles… so if it does snow we just hide and pray for the snow to melt…
Back in Germany I would've had a Glรผhwein… spiced, hot wine, possible with rum!

  • QOTD: Have to go hot chocolate on a cold snowy day, probably the childhood memories. A really good cappuccino isn't far behind. Both are even better if spiked with a bit of Amarula or Baileys.

  • adrums

    Hey man, speak for yourself. Here in Spokane, WA, I own two serious, heavy-duty shovels (one stays in my car's trunk, in order for me to dig myself out of the “berms” and such, since they don't know how to plow in the West). I also don't own a shuffle, since I use an iphone, and I thought yet another music-playing-device would be redundant. (-;

  • CBone

Beautiful little girl, Gary! (nice home selection of wines, too!)

QOTD: Well, I live in DC, and we've been getting hit hard with the snow, too. I love to drink tea, which with wine is my favorite liquid. I have a large collection of various whole leaf teas I get from an importer in Boston that are as beautiful and varied as wine. I drink tea every day, though in the cold it is especially good. I like the first flush Darjeeling that I had this morning. I also love Champagne on a snowy day. Especially when it is a major snow, the celebratory nature of the wine and the disturbed schedule is lots of fun. Last Saturday I had a 2002 Vintage Montaudon, and on Wednesday (snow storm 2 in DC) I had some Veuve Cliquot. Both tasty, both just the thing for a snowy day.

  • Hugh

A classic show, destined for the highlight reel….that was one expensive snowball, considering snowballs are free….one major complaint-when is Mrs. V going to make a cameo?? Misha is growing up quickly!!

  • kathyhughes

Champagne in rain/snow/sleet/sun, always great. Misha is lovely ! All the best, Naples Kathy aka Champagne Lady

  • Thank you for braving the elements to bring a fine show to us. Both wines sound good but out of my price range. ๐Ÿ™ I'll have to save up for them.

  • lol, jeez GV, it pains me to see you pour this stuff on the ground like that. When I have a bottle that's north of even 30 dollars you best believe none of that is going anywhere other than down the hatch.

QOTD: Hmmm… well, yesterday there was tons of snow out, and we drank the Bodega Cicchiti Malbec that went pretty nice. So a big red, be it Malbec, Cabernet, Syrah, etc etc…

Misha's gorgeous. Nothing but good vibes for you and the fam my friend.

  • MarkFitzpatrick

I always enjoy some pencil shavings and fungus in a wine.

Hot tea of just about any kind (Yerba Mate yesterday) is great on a snowy day. Plenty of that in DC.

  • Ha… I suppose that would be shovel… and yes, in West. WA we don't know how to plow or shovel… but we know how to drink! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • CharlieTN

    QOTD: gotta be tawny port.

  • Mott

Bizarre, never had that problem before. I'll re-encode with no titles since the overlays seem to be what's causing it.

  • QOTD: Nice heavy red on a snowy day, maybe a petite sirah or something from Spain.

Adorable daughter, Gary. Always fun to see them smiling and playing–and staring at the colors on the big screen. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • John__J

qotd colheita port, when I can afford it

  • scotty8m8

QOTD: Tuaca and Apple Cider or Spiced tea with fresh whipped cream.
Great episode. How you had the fortitude to expel the Clement blows my mind. For a '95 I'd melt down the bottle and find some way to get it into my body.
Last October I opened an '86 Pichon Lalande that I received as a gift over the summer and was heartbroken to find it cooked.

  • Angel

Just discovered Gary. So sad we cant join his wine club because they dont deliver in WA.
We live in Kirkland. Where do you get your vino?

  • adrums

There're (at least) a couple good shops in Oregon: Vinopolis in Portland, and Avalon Wine in Eugene. Other than that, the Northern California stores (JJ Buckley, K&L Wines) ship fairly reasonably and quickly to WA. (especially when you consider that there's no sales tax)…
There must be some quality stores in Seattle though?

  • allanj

Mott is the best!!! ; )

  • To drink in this weather (livefrom Montreal): Pinot des Charentes Le Coq D'Or on ice baby!
