hey, that’s my birthday, too. Happy Birthday!

  • (Andy) QOTD: 35 – I think of my age which is 35. Congratulations to your parents! We all know how fantastic your dad is and can only assume the same of your mom 🙂 Excellent episode as always. Now I'm going to find some of your Walla Walla episodes since we're going there soon. We have to go see Charles Smith at K (if he's there) for sure. Anyone else have any recommendations?

IF? Aren’t they in a fight right now? Now, if Mike Ditka was in a fight with hurricane, who would win? BEFORE YOU ANWER, the hurricane is also named Mike Ditka.

  • Waits

You really like to win, don’t you?

    Smithers… release the hounds!

  • Waits

    Yo G.

For safety measures, please put in a Not Like button as well! Thanks ; )

Otherwise it’ll all be good, and that’s not really the way of the world!

  • Great value show! Keep 'em comin', how about some pinot with great Qpr?

  • Comedy gold today Gary.

    Thanks.

Am enjoying your black & green book too. So thanks again.

Recovering lurker. Big day, first day of men's Olympic hockey, so I thought I'd leave my first comment: how about a Zin vs. Primitivo episode?

  • Agreed! The Almos folks are very steady, and their Torrontes is a fine introduction, especially if you already have someone hooked on their Malbec.

  • winemonologues

Congrats to your parents! That is fantastic!

I am a big fan of the Crios Torrontes. A little disappointed in your '09 assessment, although I have not had the '09 yet.

QOTD: When I think of 35, I think of the temperature I would like it to be today in southeast Michigan. . . at least March is not far away and spring will soon be here!

  • winemonologues

    Now that's a great idea!

  • Nice! Thanks for the shout about MyRecipes.com … if it was announced, I must have missed it along the way.

  • High quality Nerd Information!

  • L'Ecole No. 41, also see Ep #307. Have a good trip ; )

  • aaroncello

Nice shout out to your parents.
QOTD-Initially I think of an age. Then I think of presidential minimum age. Right? President's got to be 35.

  • If only he could…I’m not sure how much quality Pisco is to be found in the US, and the only way to really enjoy it at home is to bring home as much as you can in your checked luggage…we managed 14 bottles (including some Aguardiente and Ginda) the last time we came back.
I did hear a rumor that someone was planning on making Pisco here in the U.S., maybe Texas…anyone know the details?

  • Haven't seen too many Vayniacs comment on the new music video….?

Mott is too cool in it, almost killed Gary at the beginning… ; )

Note to self; Have to get a couple of magnums, so i can work on those muscles ; ) Killer stuff!

  • nitaT

“month of champagne”???? when is that?

  • nitaT

thanks for tasting/teaching us about different grape varieties!
nice show, I will try to find one of these in the summer.

QOTD: I thought my mother was old when she was “35”.

  • jayhitek

I think lawn darts are illegal now. Too many stupid kids were killing their friends with those things. Too bad, I was awesome at it!
Wow, your parents are young. Mine just had their 45th anniversary. And you and I are the same age.
QOTD: Me. I am 35. And damn good looking for my age.

  • A turtle in your room….Classic!!!!!
QOTD: My buddies football # in high school

  • Thanks for the wonderful words that you said to your parents. I loved the tribute.

  • missatiejacket

Nice episode. I like torrontes when it's not too big and syrupy. I appreciated the kind words to your parents. Those of us lucky enough to have our parents playing positive roles in our lives should remember to thank them. The number 35 doesn't really mean anything to me.

  • Michael C in MKE

    7 x 5

  • Hey Gary

    Great show, thanks.

QOTD: 35? Not sure… Too be honest absolutely nothing really… Sorry

    Cheers
    Andrew

  • drt999

Can't think of anything special for '35', although your comments made me think way back to my own parents' 35th!

  • DAveAll

35 – how many years i've been at my job. moving in 2010 from it to a micro-winery business.

  • It's nice to see Torrontes being promoted and all. Had my first in last october and it _rocked my world_. Festivo 09 Torrontes from Mendoza. I do disagree on you with the easy-to-drink-ability of Torrontes. Being so aromatic I always have to pair them with food (Combination Torrontes – Thai food. Absolutely brilliant!).

Anyway; congrats on the 35th anniversary and to answer the QOTD: I'm only 18 y/o so I think of “that is one long way to go….” 😉

    Cheers,
    Sander

  • Oh and by the way! Torrontes genetically linked with Malvasia.. that's interesting. Wonder which grapes are part of this family as well.

Thank you for responding! I figured it was a stereotype to some degree, but I was wondering what peoples thoughts were on the subject. I have found women to like all varietals, depending on the women. My friends, most of them are not into wine like most of us are I imagine, tend to side toward reds regardless of sex. But I have always found it interesting to see how socio-cultural issues (including consumption of our favorite beverage, however far fetched it may be) spill over into other areas of our society (i.e. preferences of both sexes).

  • Bill R.

Enjoyed the “new to me” varietal. Thanks.
The number 35 is 10 short of my own coming up in a couple of months. Hope that our 4 kids are as thankful as you are!

I would agree with you on the consistency of reds & whites. However, the more whites from different regions I enjoy and drink consistently, the more thunder they bring. I would be interested to see a poll of 1000 people (preferably equal amount of men and women) and discover where everyone falls on the spectrum. I do not have enough time or energy to carry this out!

  • How about having Jon Stewart on your show… That's one i would watch (I'll watch whatever you do) And i'll bet you, the comments will go through the roof!

Or how about Conan? He isn't doing too much these days, is he?

Congrats to 35 years! When I hear 35 I think of March 5th, my birthday! So, a good number. I recently picked up the la yunta and the http://gourmetlibrary.com/products/7733-Beemster-Classic-Gouda I’m excited to give them a try

  • cellarrat5

I have nothing but respect, keep spreading your wisdom. However, as much as all of us young whippersnappers may need to hear it please do not come off as pedantic. If you want the younger generation to listen to you talk with them, not at them. Being a younger part of the young generation I realize I have very little experience in life, and I see so many around me my age who take it for granted (including me at times). We are aware that our generation did not invent life, but we sure know how to do it from time to time, but I suppose this would depend on your definition of living; which nobody, not even older people, can define.

  • Braden G

Love Torrontes – great juice for not too much dough.

QOTD – My age this June.

  • wyotim

I'm with you on the Crios.

  • GW,

Here in Brazil, “Crios – Susana Balbo” costs 20 dollars ´cause the taxes.

35 is my next birthday on may, 8th.

    Congratulations,

  • Nice one love the fun facts! Always learning is what is great about wine! The 2 I will seek out. Had the Susana Balbo in the summer and I loved it by the pool with chips salsa quac! Delish but anything she touches tastes great!

QOTD: 35 years ago I was much younger!

  • change is good! it keeps us young! good luck

  • I loved lawn darts!

  • the wines sound delightful. congradulations on having the greatest family on earth. i must admit not having a family is hard. my bro in heaven is my angel im truly alone .so when i hear the number 35 i think its some subliminal masionic numerology that you are projecting.lol private not so private jke. buzz breaking banter. blows minds and bridges burn . happy fat teusday and tomorrow ash wednesday.i do have a couple of cousins i can call. love and god bless the grapes….

  • Sometimes I read that site, but I teach this fact to my fourth graders.

  • cellarrat5

Perhaps the Vaynernation can help me out on this one. Is it common place to have the notion that whites are for women? I was always a red drinker untill I realised how delicious, variable and thunder producing whites can acctually be. Do people precive whites as a womens wine? Or do men mostly prefer reds due to actual differences in mens pallates/ability to taste phenolic compunds in reds. Help me out everyone! Lurkers, come out of the woodwork!!

  • Lord knows I don't feel bad about screwing by the pool.

QOTD: I hate the Cheifs, but it seemed like they were ALWAYS playing the Seahawks when I was growing up. The Nigerian Nightmare, Christian Okoye, if forever ingrained in my head when I think of #35. And he used to run over people in Tecmo Bowl.
