$200 Shiraz and sub sandwiches: The new hot food-and-wine pairing!

  • mlanducci

dude you jumped the shark, you know damn well that heat bomb isnt a 92, your dad just put you on the spot. you faltered when you said “ninety” and then had to force yourself to say “2”. just had that wine last night and it was awful. way out of balance alcohol.

  • Happy 4th. What I'd like to see is 1) more wild-ass Italian varietals, which I never get tired of, and 2) maybe shorter shows for us time crunched aspiring impoverished grad students.

  • cowz

Haha those subs looked good. Keep up the hard/good work happy 4 years WLT!

    QOTD:Think its all good.

  • here is a vote for more wrist bands…I think one of the cats stole mine.

  • Nick_L

QOTD: I'd say expand the gourmet department, but, having been to the store, I know that it's too crowded down there already. Just keep up the good work.

  • At least Sasha got something to eat, for himself, and he shared it…what a great dad.
QOTD: we are no longer tanking…at the moment. more stable than 2007-2008.

You guys do a great job, and keep coming up with better ideas…just keep the same attitude , the level of customer service, and loyalty to your own team. Cent'anni!

  • dsallen

In honor of the 4 years, this lurker is coming out of the shadows. Great show! I could watch these two blab all day long and be entertained.

  • GARY IS A MANIPULATOR

  • Martin Brodeur thought it was a Devils Playoff game and got scared of the puck

  • AWESOME! Love every minute. Definitely a highlight reel!

  • isn’t awful more like 70?

  • Mark

I have been lurking for about 300 episodes.. truly fun to watch. Your dad is pretty cool.. But the Russian hockey team is not going to be in the gold medal game

  • Canada and Russia cant meet in the final, they clash in the quarter final

  • BradVinNH

Fantastic show! Shows with Sasha are always a blast and this was no exception! What was really great to me was watching you guys for almost 30 minutes, not even noticing the time go by — having you taste only ONE wine — and then realizing that it was time to go.
Yow!!! This was one show where the conversation and love and banter between you two totally overshadowed the wine!

QOTD: I know how you can improve things: looking forward into the mists of the future, I see GV at his 1000th episode (yeah, not THAT far away!). And finally, we get to see Gary and dad in Sasha's wine cellar (yeah, you keep promising, but we still haven't been there yet!), cellarbrating[sic] that millenium episode with three or four bottles of unbelievable wine (mature Yquem, De Vogue, Latour, whatever!!) that lasts not 22 minutes, not 26 minutes, but more like 2& 1/2 hours. It'll be like My Dinner With Andre but instead we'll all call it My Dinner With Gary and Sasha (and it will be better)!!

  • The best shows ALWAYS have Sasha… way to go… CONGRATS on 4 years!!!

    And no napkins…?

QOTD: nothing glaring… just keep re-inventing your style, service, and the people will come…

    PS: USA!!!

  • In the Ghetto

  • carlo10

i would love a big ass glass

  • vpass64

Gary happy 4 years! Truly. Sasha must be very proud. I want to visit your brick and mortar facility one day.

QOTD: I have a great answer, but I think I will need to email it to you.

  • second Nr 1

  • my reaction to 🙂

  • I also love working with my dad and he likes to talk politics too. We are truly blessed.

  • O'Shea

Loved the hockey talk. Congrats on 4 years!

QOTD: Ideas for improvement. 1) Allow people to post feedback for each individual wine (if they bought it on WL) 2) Post wine labels images on all wines 3) Keep a label archive of all wines offered on WL. Allow people to download. 4) Improve the search feature. Allow more criteria.

  • as a total outsider I can only reflect that the good times with Clinton ( 8 years of constant growth) was replaced by a very financially shaky administration, much due to the war on terrorism. 2001-06 was surely good years for some, but not all. The global recession started august 2008, the american problem in 2006. Go figure that one man can fix a country that has a debt of 86% of the GDP. I’ll hope you all can work together to get out of the predicament your country is in right now.

Happy 4th Birthday! Good on ya, making your dad proud. That's the highest form of praise and accomplishment. Sasha- QOTD. Get your wines available for shipping to those states that currently are unable to get them.

  • and? tasting notes here or on Cork’d, please.

  • QOTD: to go packages for the free cheese samples

  • Love it when Sasha is on! When I began to watch this episode, the first thing that came to mind was the fact that there was no plate of cheese and crackers for Sasha…good thing he had some subs stashed away!

    Happy 4th!

  • SourGrapesFC

That was really great. I almost lost it when Sasha left and came back with that giant sandwich.

QOTD: the only thing I want from you is Sasha on a cheese show! One bottle of wine, three or four cheeses and a whole lot of Sasha.

  • NY Pete

LOL … KaD insert it here

  • cellarrat5

I don't even know where to begin. That show gave me the most insight to WL and its history I have ever had, and for that alone I am grateful. Every so often the wine plays second fiddle on the thunder show, this time it was more than appropriate it was right. With a lot of Gary, and a little bit of us; we are all changing the wine world. Happy Birthday WLTV, I believe I speak for the entire Vaynernation when I say THANK YOU. Your invaluable and unflappable service to your fans, your family and wine culture in general will never be forgotten.

QOTD 1: Change does not come overnight, I was weary of partisan politics long ago. Now I am trying to keep my head up and hoping I will have social security if I make it that far. I take solace in the fact that some people are actually trying to do something instead of furthering their own soulless agenda.

Actual QOTD: WL seems to be doing just fine, keep expanding your stock. Never stay static or keep to the same regions, always look for the value play. I am sure you will continue to carry WL in a direction that we would all approve of.

  • Congrats on 4 years!

  • What a great episode. The energy between the two of you is great to watch and so much fun.

QOTD: Keeping us in suspense about something big coming up is a sure way to have us back each day to wait for the news. Can't wait to hear what's next!

By the way, thank you for such a great visit back in January. We really enjoyed the backstage tour of WLTV and visiting. Remarkable energy and enthuisasm for wine and for life. Thank you!

    Hugs,
    Sandi

  • castello

Mott! Can you please get us some napkins?

  • castello

    Welcome lurker.

  • Aaron

Trying to stay apolitical and dad ruins it. Classic! P.S. Canada's gonna go all the way, so enjoy your little victory now.

  • castello

Are you gonna take that G?

  • Congrats Gary. So many of us have been right her with you over the years, and loved every episode. Of course, an appearance by your Dad is a treat and a bonus. He is truly a great guy. You can tell the love and respect you have for him. That's a great thing!

    All the best. Cheers!

QOTD: It's not a matter of doing it better. Just remain consistent with the level of service you presently give.

  • Sasha – you are a ROCKSTAR (Gary, you too)! Congratulations on 4 years!

QOTD: I would like to see more “free shipping” deals on 1 bottle.

  • amgryger

QOTD: I think you need to put the TimF episode in the “favorite episodes” menu.

  • Hotshot162

Hey Gary congrats on 4 years and more importantly thank you so much for introduced me to wine. Please continue your good work and keep making more awesome shows!!! Thanks again!!

  • aaroncello

Wow. Always good when Sasha is on. Really enjoyed the show.
Wish I could find episode 58 easier. Is that really one that changed?
    Aaron

  • Joe C

Mazel tov, Gary & Sasha. You are blessed!

  • Joe C

Mazel tov, Gary & Sasha! You are blessed!

  • John Rogers

I just enjoyed watching you two together. I have been watching since last fall and catching up on your earlier episodes. I agree with Sasha that you changed almost 180 degrees. Your content was the same but you started having fun and so did we. Four years and going, keep up the good work.

QOTD; Is their any way that you can help to change these archaic state wine shipping laws? I would like to send wines to people in other states. We need to begin somewhere.

  • ex_Cuse88

Best episode ever!!! Love you Sasha. I think you should start your own political video blog. I laughed out loud at least three times. One thing I have to ask is that you keep it down about “Leal”. I was on to them two years ago, and if you keep running your mouth, the value is going to disappear. QOTH: Get Michigan to let you ship me wine. BTW: I'm celebrating my 44th birthday today and was pleased to share it with the two of you and a 2002 Frank Family Reserve Cabernet…….love that Rutherford dust.

  • leni

Happy 4 years! You guys are a great team, I love this episode!

  • Mike in C-town

Congrats on the milestone. I think I first started watching around the two year mark and I've laughed and learned a lot over that time. Thank you.
Shows with Sasha are always entertaining.

QOTD: Stay aware of the things your competition are doing. Take the best ideas and make them work for WL retail and in your own style. A thought that comes to mind after the sauv blanc QOTD….how about a three pack with a sample cheese?

  • Yeah Sasha!!! (AKA Alexander I'm sure)…..LOLOLOLOLOLOL ROTFLMFAO! I can't believe Sasha went for the “smells like wine” WLTV inside joke….unbelieveable! Sasha do you pay for wine? 😉

QOTD: Open a store in MI so I can buy some wine from you….stupid state laws…..Gourmet Library is nice though….and the other question you wanted to ask…no the economy hasn't quite turned yet.

    Great episode….thanks guys

First congradulations on the 4th year.Next it was wonderful to see your dad Sasha and you Gary get along so wonderfully and talk about some hockey and how U.S.A. to win Gold.It is true that wine is expensive.Entrepreneurs can help the economy by showing people other avenues to create extra income to be used how the people wish.Today I bought some bottles of Chateau Du Seguiner Bordeaux 2005. I also got Parkers Wine Buyers Guide no.7 to do some homework on wines. This is my first book for my Wine Libary.Any suggestions would be great to add to the new collection of wine books.Hello to Mot and your family Gary, and to your Staff.Have a wonderful week and look forward to the next exciting episode.Still telling people about The Thunder Show out here in San Diego Ca.God Bless.
