I enjoyed this show a lot more than GV seemed to. Especially the bit where he ponders a scenario at a dinner table with two introverted, boring brothers. ‘Of course being tremendously over the top I would carry the conversation all night’. I love those sort of line… because they are undoubtedly true.

Dude, don’t sweat it. You can’t be awesome 100% of the time! 🙂

  • tooch

    love GruV

  • castello

    Top 5! dissapointed I wasn't number 1.

  • MarcBelgium

What a pitty. I know Gruner Veltliner as a GREAT grape. I adore the freshness and exciting flavour of it. Make another show on Gruner Veltliner. The grape deserves it.

  • Dominic C.

yay! Number 4! Will add later after the break!

  • OH SNAP, 81 & 83! I ordered that Fuchs from Wine Library a few months ago so could understand Austria's hushed pride of this wine. I was underwhelmed, but hope that there is a Gruner out there (that isn't too pricey,) that can clairify the legacy.

  • Top 10!

  • So the question is, is it the varietal that's not that good or just these two bottles? What is this wine supposed to be like and what would be a good example. When everything fails, tell me what a good bottle would be…point me in a direction.

With all that said – I like the grumpy you sometimes.

    Top 10!!!

  • QOTD: A few days ago I was disappointed by my lack of enthusiasm for the Olympics. Now I just don't care.

  • : (

    Too bad Gary.

Qotd: I was dissapointed of myself yesterday, made some bad comments…. Sorry.

    Have a good weekend all.

  • Today on WLTV: Gruner Veltliner and a lingering sense of existential dread!

Maybe a little couch would lift everyone's spirits.

Still love Gruner Veltliner and don't get nearly enough of it, though.

come on GV, terry theise brings in the majority of high quality grower champagne. Gimonnet, Jean milan, pierre peters, Gaston Chiquet, Rene Geoffroy, Henri Billiot et fils, Vilmart… Most importers have one or two “good” grower champagnes in their repertoire. Prices do suck though. I think you need to talk about some small houses which get villified with the giants and ignored in favor of the RMs…

  • castello

and mr burns is an ugly old man

  • Soo close…. ; )

    Have a good weekend castello ; )

  • jsums

Meh. Snow day, though! That's always fun. QOTD – The last '05 red Burdundy I dropped a chunk of change on. Seriously lame. Pissed me off.

  • Wow…an even shorter show. Really a bad showing. I hadn't tried the Fuchs, but I had heard some mixed reviews about the Hirsch. For the record, I really like GruV…I look forward to the next round of tasting. I agree with Eric…couch is needed.

QOTD: Definitely the whole assault back in December. Missed out on so many family/friend gatherings (and some awesome craft beer and wine). Will hopefully make some up later this month, but totally disappointing.

Thank you Gary ,you pushed thru and i shall try some paper from my fax.Loved the oh well at the end . No thunder but a tiny tiny tiny bit of static electricity.Have a great weekend.qotd ,tried some riesling at room temp, blah will try chilled.

  • Yeah that's true. ; )

  • castello

  • carolyn

    bummer man!
qotd: the terrible new salmon recipe that sounded so de'lish and yet tasted so not!

  • BFR1028

    LOL 🙂

  • BFR1028

QOTD – this morning at the gas pump… there goes another $100 that could have been spent on wine

  • WineWoman

Haven't had GruV in a while. Probably won't try either of those.
QOTD: Disappointed the weathermen were correct!! 🙁

  • You like that, huh? ; )

    Have a good weekend Keith.

  • castello and myself are unbeatable at this sort of thing…. ; )

  • BFR1028

QOTD: When there was no more hot water in the shower on thuesday:(

  • QOTD:

Charles Shaw (of KV) Washington st. Merlot – bleh.

  • There are many good examples out there, but you'll have to cough up some dough for them. Hirtzberger, Knoll, Pichler & the almighty Bründlmayer. That's four of the best producers of Gruvee… Prices will probably begin at about 35 bones approx

Hope i was of help to you.

qotd: Ohio state dropped one last week at home to Purdue. Ruined the undefeated home season for the bucks. Good for Purdue though….always give conference love. Too bad Robbie Hummel is out for the season. They play Michigan state tomorrow. Purdue disappointment might be not getting that #1 seed.

I'm not disappointed that it's Friday! Priorat and Chateauneuf are in the house! As well as a handful of of lottery pick wines, including an interesting looking burgundy and a mystery minervois.

  • nitaT

gary-seems like you are in a hurry the past 2 shows–pumping them out as you say.
i hope you do a fun show for us while you are in MIA.

QOTD: Last night I did a wine dinner at a great restaurant and one of the courses was Quail.. yuck.. but the wine was good!

  • ONUMello

QOTD: I flew all the way from OH to Denver for an interview at a site that looked great on paper, only to find out they didn't really live up to what it looked like.

  • johncannata

Okay, you may have been a little down from the show, but the ending cracked me up. “you, me, changin”. Anyway, I'll tend to get disappointed with some marketing material. I'll put a lot of time and energy into something and if it does not send out the returns I anticipated,I can get discouraged. No worries though, you have to try and fail in order to know how to make it better. Cheer up!

  • Never had a Gruner Veltliner, but just tracked down a few bottles. As “Meh” as you described them I'm still excited to expand the palate.

QOTD: Just got my layoff notice last week. So that's very disappointing.

  • teckdeck2008

Qotd: I'm going to have to go with the job market. I know its kind of a downer theme considering the guy below me mentioned the same type of thing, but its the world we live in.

  • Chris

Sounds like Gary needs to drink a little more wine and not spit it out…

  • DaveyJohnson

QOTD: Today's show. Wow, rushed and blah

  • Ha! You could tell they were going to be bad by the packaging…

QOTD: Don't know the last time, but I hope I'm not disappointed tonight when I see Cheap Trick in Palm Springs…

  • laurieinvt

Just curious, did you taste the GV's before or after the Cab Sauv's in ep#821? As much as I love this varietal, there can be some real klunkers, not all of them inexpensive GV's either…

QOTD: Disappointed that just as I answered a call from my nephew in Italy today, the cell signal dropped off, and I can't call back 'cause I don't have internat'l calling. 🙁 Also a little worried, but that's a different qotd.

  • Tau_Digamma

Come on Gary, this episode wasn't THAT bad. I'm glad you featured the Hirsch though, I was on the fence about buying it and I think I'll pass now. Gruner is such a great wine when it's good, but you know how that goes.
QOTD: I did a tasting the other day on a Torrantes grown at 5,500 feet elevation in Argentina (of course) that I thought would be amazing and it was (like the wines you featured today) solid, but nothing spectauclar. Better luck next time I guess.

  • frchristianmathis

    hmmm….last time I was disappointed.

Let's just go with a wine disappointment. When I recently asked a friend to get a bottle of red wine to go with an excellent dinner and he came home with a bottle of reunite. That was disappointing.

  • I would like to say i'm sorry for yesterdays comment to you. I was in a bad mood.

    Good luck with the wines.

  • castello

Just when you think you know somebody. Did you give him some stinkeye?

  • mattgmann

no hard feelings man, have a nice weekend

  • It was hard to as he stated it was his favorite wine. What does one say to that?

  • Thnx. I need me some anger management ; )
