I enjoyed this show a lot more than GV seemed to. Especially the bit where he ponders a scenario at a dinner table with two introverted, boring brothers. ‘Of course being tremendously over the top I would carry the conversation all night’. I love those sort of line… because they are undoubtedly true.

  • C'mon guys, it's GROOVY, like feelin' groovy – but not about Hirsch #1 after seeing the show. The Hirsch GV Heiligenstein is a big step up at around $20-$25. I had the '06 and it had plenty of peppers & spice.

Anyone who gives up on Gruner based on this show is missing out. Its a great white to mix it up with and the well-made ones are serious wines. How wowed would people be by most $9 pinots or cabs? And Johannes Hirsch makes some beautiful wines – that, his most entry level, obv not his best showing.

QOTD: Today. It was snowing like crazy all through the night so I was hoping I could get a snow day, but the university administration sends an e-mail declaring that all classes will resume as normal from 10am onward. As it happens, my only class of the day was a 10am one. Had to trudge a mile uphill through a good foot and a half of snow to get to class. Not happy. On the flip side, Yuna Kim won the women's figure skating gold medal, SHATTERING the world record in the process. That made my day.

  • Last groov I had was with Sushi in the Jet Blue JFK terminal…very nice with the hamachi sashimi.

  • great camera work Mott!

  • Maybe you need something from Gourmet Library to go with those…groovy likes food.

  • QOTD: about an hour ago when I figured out that I had missed the Carmenere show because of the storm.

  • Downer show heading into the weekend… Ouch.

QOTD: A girl. So cool the first time we met. Hung out a week or so later and wow, was I ever wrong…

  • JayZee13

Kind of a disappointing show overall. The wines were meh and so GV became meh. Ah well.

  • Charles Shaw or Charles Smith??? Very different.

  • drt999

QOTD — either I've had low expectations recently, or I've just been lucky, but no recent disappointments like these!

  • TheWinedown

Last time I was disappointed? Man…right NOW after watching that show! Sigh…

Most def. need to pick up a Gruner though. Sad that I haven't tried one before!

  • CharlieTN

Last time I was disappointed: While I was watching this show, I was eating some sesame noodles that I bought at my local food co-op. They looked darn tasty, but they turned out to be mega boring. And I'm still hungry. Shucks.

  • CharlieTN

Oh, another time I was disappointed today: when I noticed that WL is doing free shipping on like 80 wines, and I got all excited, and then I realized I'm still a CKC and don't have an income. Shucks.

  • paulkochevar

Could be the greatest sign-off I have watched yet!!

QOTD – Vikes loss to the Saints 2010 NFC title

  • Sorry JayZee13 🙁

  • oregon5361

I need to try more of these Gruners….
And that T shirt still cracks me up I think your stirring the pot!!!

  • Vay-ku

    Introverted Bro's.
    GV must carry the load.
    Coz that's how he rolls.

Last disappointment: when I accidentally put 6 syllables in the last line of my haiku.

  • ten$under

Gary, one could be disappointed by seeing you disappointed. Cheer up, I know you know, wine does not always have to be the greatest experience ever. Sometimes it is what it is. Even high quality Gruner – which is great wine – will leave most people disappointed if they are looking to get knocked out of their socks. I suggest people to not overlook ” Veltliner ” from Italy – I have had some very interesting ones. A good real show that depicted the reality of professional wine tasting.

  • jamesculp

GV, sorry that wines with your initials didn't bring the excitement that you can (yikes that sounded kiss-ass).

QOTD: I'm disappointed that I sounded like such a kiss-ass there.

But, in seriousness, I'm digging the new types of episodes. Shorter, straightforward, and tasting wines. The guests can be great, but when it takes half an hour to learn about 3 wines, well, I guess I'm too busy (or too ADD) to make that kind of commitment.

  • pawncop

Well short and to the point is a virtue many times.

Have never tried a Gruner Veltliner but think it is worth the effort to find one just not these two.

QOTD – When a theft case I had got dismissed because the star witness had just gotten out of prison for aggravated perjury. I did not know his history when I was working the case. Lesson learned.

  • Lyman

QTD: Peeps in general; I think it has to do with cabin fever or light deprivation, or some other excuse like that.

Gruner has almost always been a disappointment to me especially for the price. Way too many good whites at lower price points that are solid and go well with a variety of foods to even consider taking a chance on Gruner.

  • jamesculp

Peeps as in people, or Peeps as in the marshmallow candy.

Cause if you mean the candy, then we may need to step outside 😉

  • Barry

Let me see, Gary recommends pairing a $9 wine with caviar. I suspect if someone is shelling out for caviar, they're not shopping for cheap wine.

  • FriscoGrapes

    LOL!

    QOTD: Just now.

  • qotd: Last time I was disappointed was when I got my WLTV podcast labeled Episode #823, but when played was actually #819 again. Which would be TODAY! See. The QT version is that ep.

  • Altboy97

QOTD – Well of course there was that bad day the Jets had in Indi a while back. Found out we lost a project at work the other day up in Conn. Hard to get disappointed by wine on a Friday afternoon, however. 'bout that time.

  • Mott

Should be fixed now. I posted the episode remotely and guess I forgot to update the Quicktime link. It's fixed now. Might take a little while to get to iTunes.

  • Just picked up 5 bottles of the 2008 Villa Des Anges today that you recommended on Wednesday's show. The people at City Vineyard here in Billings just got it in today – one case only. They were so excited to hear that I knew of this wine already thanks to you. You answer to the question of the day… hopefully not the Villa Des Anges 🙂

not all episodes can be good. There is always a bad one in the bunch. Just bring the thunder the next episode Gary!!

  • johnboston

currently disappointed with the blah outside

  • waynoooo daaa winoooo

YEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAW, GEEVEEEEE SLURRRPIIIN' DAAA GRUVEEEEE !!!!!!!!!!! :o)

  • johnfarrin

At the risk of being called an effete wine snob, did you really let him eat????????? 🙂

  • Yes I did….he didn't know any better.

  • johnfarrin

QOTD: I try very hard not to get disappointed because there's no upside to it and I'm not into aggravating myself 🙂

  • 3 feet of snow i NY? and in Rome it's spring, but i Karlstad winter still reigns. This was one of the show that you taped while going live on Ustream last week, right?

QOTD: Not today since I just had a Val di Suga Brunello di Montalcino 2004. Oboy is that wine good. Last time, well the last bank statement were disapointing, really.

  • castello

Please pop one NOW and let us know. Mine could be a week away.

  • brookelp

Hey man, you might have been disappointed with the show, but I found it entertaining regardless! I've had some good GruV's lately, but haven't tried those two (and probably won't–thanks for the heads up!).
Last time I was disappointed involved a little Christmastime heartbreak. C'est la vie, and many fun adventures to come!

  • MEH,

QOTD: Easy, This episode, 6:46 that I will never get back GV.

  • castello

LOL! Sorry but that had to be devastating. Aggravated perjury? You need a nice bottle tonight.

  • vinoreviews

QOTD: the last time I was disappointed was this week when the US Women's Curling team finished last in Vancouver.

  • Guischall

    Adding up here…

two of the most boring and dull episodes of WLTV I ever watched: this and the last one.

  • Gary the show was… MEH.

Haha, just kidding loved it. Never had this varietal, so it has me intrigued and I know which bottles not to pick up. Thanks!

QOTD: The last time I was disappointed was when I wanted Chick-fil-a so bad, but it was Sunday! It was a travesty.

  • John Martelly

    I, a, nevermind.

  • QOTD – Couple weeks ago had to reschedule a trip to Texas to visit family. Always a bummer when that happens.

Glad to see you break out the GV's too bad they disappointed. Have a great weekend

  • tflangan

What a shitty way to end the week! Bring back the laid back couch and make us love our Fridays again GV.

    QOTD: This show

  • Great site…I am very glad I found you!

    Mike

  • John Martelly

    kind of a Debbie Downer

  • SourGrapesFC

qotd: the bottle of monastrel I opened last night.

  • b777capt

    Tough episode GV.

QOTD: A friend brought over a French Pinot Noir. Turns out it wasn't from Burgundy and that wine was blahhhh! Pazzzzzzzzzz
